Kurt actually liked Chad. They stayed friends after Chad left the band. The reason he left is because he couldn't keep up with the band progress and direction that Kurt wanted put the band into.
WRONG. Dave Grohl explicitly said the only reason why Chad left the band was because he asked if they could play his songs and they started shunning him for it. The only Dave Grohl song they ever used was Marigold, and they only used that for a b-side because they didn't have any other suitable material at the time. Dave said the worst thing a drummer could say is "Why don't we play any of my songs," and he learned it because of what happened to Chad. It had nothing to do with "keeping up" with Kurt and Krist; most of the drumlines you hear on Nevermind are Chad's drumlines that Dave heard on the demos and kept in the songs, note for note.

The Beatles influence in this song is just right in your face. It was pretty obvious on the Nevermind version too, but it's even stronger on this version.

I know Dave Grohl took Nirvana to newer heights but what Chad Channing did on Bleach was genius, Bleach would not be the masterpiece it is if anyone else played drums on that record. Everybody give Chad mad props.
I love his raw and well in a way "Sucky" Drum playing cx You can really feel the rawness that came from bleach followed by the well i guess overproducing of nevermind and a nice mix and both in In Utero c: I like it.
in utero is the testament to ultimate drumming and no fear from kurt to displease people. It is the real punk. nobody will ever replace chad on bleach. who would want to? but I can see basically all sides of everything involved in the sound and most of all I can see why chads drumming wouldn't have4 worked on nevermind. kurt secretly wanted to please the world and win everyone over. its obvious he played cat n mouse with the production but I can tell he was satisfied with the sound far more than bleach. The best part was when he took that sound and duplicated it and added the overall layer of sound that would equal burnt hair and made in utero though.. one of my favorite things about kurt that I find similar to some people including myself is becoming bored with formulas and the necessity of change and evolution to happen faster. I could probably say that 11% of the nirvana anger is due to lack of evolution in sound during their stay and not feel like im full of myself.. hahaha this post...

I like how he was considered the voice of a generation but when he was in school he was an outcast and couldn't relate to the majority of his class mates.

There is something really special about Nirvana demos. Most of the them have alot of character and the tape hiss and low-fi quality give them an edge. Same goes with the audience recorded live shows. Really paints a picture of the show in my head when i listen to them. .
it's also because they practiced many hours a day, 5-6 days a week and jammed building on kurt's melody/riffs/rough song to create their songs. By the time they were recording demos even if it was them recording at their band's practice spot...they as a band could perform the songs in their sleep and all those hours practicing meant they where tight and in nysnc...a lot of bands while they know how to play the songs for the demos, they aren't as familiar and tight as nirvana was for their demos. Also, Nirvana was a broke Seattle alternative rock band trying to get a major label to buy out their contract, so they had to be able to perform their songs basically perfect because the opportunities and chances someone important would hear their recordings was slim and if they got time to record a demo in a studio...it would be really short so they didn't have time to do a ton of takes or work things out.

Eh... a great song and not redundant, but I don't think it's terribly accurate to say it's among the "most unique songs melodically" relative to the rest of Nirvana's catalogue. Songs like Aero Zeppelin, Hairspray Queen, or Floyd the Barber are a lot more unique IMO
I wish they would've kept that solo! I especially like the climbing part of it around 2:15. I think it would've fit in awesomely right after the breakdown-buildup-scream part when they go back really hard into the main hook/verse chords

What I mean with copying the voice vocals to make a solo is exactly what it is. When you have a melody your singing and the 3rd or so verse comes instead of singing you can create a solo to match its tone and melody. That helps a song really sink in.. kurt was great at developing that.. the other type of solo is the skitzofrantic.. its melody is like your mother yelling at you after you say something. kurt was also good at that ;)

This is a very good version of Drain You. I like it more than the studio version and comparing it with the French TV version it is a different song entirely.
chad was really cool, when he fled the band's underground look fled with him, but his timing was poor. kurt said that. dave was like a metronome for the band.
Great demo, but Chad Channing wasn't on the band in this recording, he was sacked in june 1990, and this demo id from august same year. Probably Dale Crover on drums by that time. Crover toured a couple of days that same month.
Lol I like how you read these comments then start doing Nirvana drummer math to determine who's playing on the track. I do the same. Although Dave Grohl kept it very simple he's usually the one that you can tell just by listening that it's him not Chad or Dale.
Hmm maybe but you can't deny that both Krist and Kurt admitted to not being pleased with Chad's ability as a drummer. Even when Kurt went to that Scream show with Krist they agreed that it would be amazing to have a drummer like Dave not thinking twice about possibly replacing Chad.
I don't know I like the studio version too. Sure it's overdubbed like hell, but when you get a track played by Cobain over 5 times you know it's gonna be golden. Also the studio version seems to be down tuned which offers a great contrast in sound through out the album. Thanks for postin dis version too, I've never heard the demo before. You guys do all know this is Dale Crover on drums, yeah? Dale on drums, DAVE on bass, Kurt on guitar / vocals (obvs). Dale wrote what he thought was a, quote, "pretty Ringo drum beat", and Dave thanked him saying, "Thanks. I didn't quite know what to write for that song", so he more or less used this drum beat that Dale wrote, adding a few fills and things of course.
Believe its Dale Crover on drums here as he did come up with the drum riff when Kurt had almost given up on the song after hitting a wall over what the drums should be doing. Also definitely a different style to chads playing/sound

Great demo, but Chad Channing wasn't on the band in this recording, he was sacked in june 1990, and this demo id from august same year. Probably Dale Crover on drums by that time. Crover toured a couple of days that same month.
Lol I like how you read these comments then start doing Nirvana drummer math to determine who's playing on the track. I do the same. Although Dave Grohl kept it very simple he's usually the one that you can tell just by listening that it's him not Chad or Dale.

Hmm maybe but you can't deny that both Krist and Kurt admitted to not being pleased with Chad's ability as a drummer. Even when Kurt went to that Scream show with Krist they agreed that it would be amazing to have a drummer like Dave not thinking twice about possibly replacing Chad.

I don't know I like the studio version too. Sure it's overdubbed like hell, but when you get a track played by Cobain over 5 times you know it's gonna be golden. Also the studio version seems to be down tuned which offers a great contrast in sound through out the album. Thanks for postin dis version too, I've never heard the demo before. Wish they coulda kept tha solo.

You guys do all know this is Dale Crover on drums, yeah? Dale on drums, DAVE on bass, Kurt on guitar / vocals (obvs). Dale wrote what he thought was a, quote, "pretty Ringo drum beat", and Dave thanked him saying, "Thanks. I didn't quite know what to write for that song", so he more or less used this drum beat that Dale wrote, adding a few fills and things of course.

Believe its Dale Crover on drums here as he did come up with the drum riff when Kurt had almost given up on the song after hitting a wall over what the drums should be doing. Also definitely a different style to chads playing/sound
