Hi, do you have a post output strategy that allows machine to position for 5 axis drilling without using tool center point control? Usually we have to create planes so the post outputs g68.2 (tilted workplanes) because canned cycles are not compatible with tool center point control. Makes the hole manager less helpful when you still have to create planes for every hole with a different alignment on part. Thanks

How well dose the hole Manger work when the holes are not modeled correctly in your part? It’s not uncommon for me to get a model and some taped holes are modeled to the minor diameter and other to the major diameter. Heck, sometimes the drill depth for the thread holes is only 0.030” deep while the tap depth is called out through the part. Also, when working on weldments, some holes are thru the top plate while others interfere with the wall of the tube welded underneither. How would one handle that situation?

Thanks for your question! As you might imagine, the Hole Manager is only as good as the information in the solid model. So, it sounds like some editing of the model would be required to get the output you would want.

@@midwestcamsolutionsthat’s what I was afraid of…… Unfortunately we do work for with customers that provide us with prints and models, so I can’t control that, but for our parts we engineer in house, maybe I can talk to the engineering team here. It you don’t mind me asking, how does the TPI/pitch field get populated. The only I get get this to populate is if I manually fill it in by myself.
This video did inspire me to start learning about the hole manger/AFR. One problem that I ran into however is when I set the in-between position in my process to ‘hole feature’ my posted code dose not match my machine/Op sim. Will this require a post update?
On the bright side, I did develop a macro that will sort the holes using the hole manger and apply a hole process to them. So far I have 25 holes identified. On the parts that I made it for, it reduced my hole programing from 35 mins to less then 7 mins. There is still work to be done to make it better, but it’s a start.
With that being said, could you make a video on how to set the AFR sorting settings using the macro. I find the Gibbs macro wiki site to be quite vague in this area. The wiki site will tell me that the command for setting the AFR_CS_mode, but does not describe choices I can pick from among other things.
