Two reasons the signal booster works: 1. as you said, antenna is directional, which means it has gain, by ignoring signals in other directions, and 2. the antenna is mounted high up. The higher you can get it, the more signal you will get.
4:09 you gotta move that TV to the trailer then when you have visitors over you can kindly exclaim LET'S WATCH TV I'm sure it will really add to the crazy mountain man vibe
By the way, since I'm a Software Engineer and a huge nerd, I'll tell you an easy way to understand why it's bits and not bytes. Bits is the smallest unit of digital transmission and not every protocol out there reads data in bytes. So, it's just easier to measure speed in bits and be protocol-agnostic.
It’s about reducing how many times you have to repeat the same word. The less signal loss by increasing connection quality means you have higher throughput. TCP connections and all that.
i don't wanna be that guy but gonna be that guy MB = Mega Bytes. Mb = Mega bits, 1 Byte = 8 bits. So that 2.5 Mb you got is 0.31 Megabytes ( i only bring all this up to be informational and so people understand better their internet information as internet speeds are advertised in bits and not bytes)
Your attention to detail at hiding your face is hilarious over all the videos you've produced 🤣😂 Random small blurring filtering example at 2:50 on the booster display screen reflection. you must spend alot of time on your filming because your camera angles also mitigate your face as well, Tim Allens neighbor Wilson Wilson Jr would be proud of you! More power to you, I understand the privacy concerns.
Dearly miss my mountain retreat on the NY/PA border: As for dish soap freezing. Here in upstate NY all my dawn and gain dish soap on the windowsill above the sink was frozen for 2 weeks last month, so yes it does. Hey, I still have dozens of bottles of that same hand sanitizer all over my house. If Lily Phillips was the weather not even the black sticky tape stuff could protect your "cord"
I'm not shocked that it powered up, I'm shocked at how fast it did it. It seems like most router type things take a geologic age to boot these days, that was basically instant.
Perfect timing! I just moved into a new apartment which is great in every way! ... except for the fact that the building would give the National Radio Quiet Zone a run for its money. I have Gigabit wired internet connection, but no dice for GSM phone. I know there's supposedly WiFi-calling, but it never seems to work, not even in the slightest.
I've had a lot of luck with those little cell boosters for my astronomy clubs observatory, little life savers they are, Also, you absolutely need to see if you can salvage that console TV, not sure if it's even gonna be anything other than mush, but if. you can manage it, it looks great.
Great video. I've considered getting something like this (have shop a few miles outside of small town, only get 1 bar on my cellphone, and its a weak 1 bar, sometimes no bars....one of these might make big difference). This video adds to the "pro" column when i think about the pros/cons of a booster... An easy way to gain more height w/o climbing higher is to mount the antenna on something, like a board, a old piece of pvc pipe, etc, then climb up and mount the bottom of that to your tree. Could get another 8ft of height w/o you having to personally go any higher (not sure if you mentioned that in your video, but just wanted to throw that out there). Might make a difference on reception.... might not. But if it was free and easy to try... it would be something i'd try
I'm sorry to tell you buddy, but you missed a few frames @ 9:30. (right when the phone screen changes) Also the last part of the video is right where a VPN sponsor would fit in.
That PVC piping must have been the good stuff! Usually when it has been laying outside like that, it becomes brittle and crumbles when you try to cut it like you did, but that stuff didn't even budge 😅
Megabits and megabytes are annoying. In general, companies use megabits when they're trying to make you think you're getting 8x more than you really are.
No not rly, bits is the industry standard transfer speed measurement. Bytes are what they use to measure storage capacity, its the morons who use them interchangeably that make them annoying. Everything in IT world is made for a reason, though in time that reason is forgotten by many. I.E. Bytes exist due to binary computing since well, that's kind of what most everything runs on, but not everything everything so its necessary to have bits so that everything everything runs properly.
Honey stop complaining about work, another episode of Lazy Acres is on and I need to focus! That's actually megabits per second. It's a measure of speed, not size. Proof that it's not how big it is, it's how you use it.
I was disappointed you did not disassemble the outdoor antenna cover to discover and reveal the secrets of it's configuration and it's dimensions so we can all build one. The internals of the amplifier so we can build one. Of course improved versions, but hey maybe in a sequel of...as the dishwashing liquid thaws...just sayin'...
8:13 speaking as a canadian and therefore qualified on the subject of cold, well, why do you think it's called frost _bite?_ And yeah that's normal on the soap.
Nowadays when I get bad Chinese stuff I assume malice, not stupidity. They've learned the ropes by now and it's only the real bargain bin products that are 'it looks like the thing but doesn't chooch' awful. Even the English translations are better now that they use AI for it. The exception is metallurgy. They still struggle with good metal for some reason. Or they're keeping the best for the domestic market.
The upload is 8 times slower than you claimed as it is 2.5 Mbps not 2.5 MBps. The lower-case b indicates bits while the upper-case b indicates bytes. Since there are 8 bits in a byte you were way off on your speed. Cell boosters typically only do one frequency reducing speeds available for Internet. If you want higher speed cell internet you want to use what is called MIMO AKA Multiple In Multiple Out.
Power lines were destroyed in a storm and have since been fixed. Septic tank is rusting out but I ran a line to it for draining my camper tanks twice a year. Well is a total loss and a new one should be drilled this winter!
@@thedoubtfultechnician That's awesome man. Side note, I am morbidly curious if there is any life left in that ancient television set half buried in the ground. Possible future video?
@DeadReckon There’s been an update video that you might have missed, but I did try a submersible pump. The water is so rich in sulfur and the location of the well is so problematic that it wasn’t worth trying to fix. There’s a few of those TVs… they’re pretty rotten inside.
@thedoubtfultechnician Oh no, devil fart water, hopefully you find a good well location, it can be harder than people think. The one at the house that I grew up in was over 250 feet deep, evidently it tapped into some huge aquifer. Mmmm.. Cave water...

The cable through the ladders felt personal
It's like I was watching myself, totally would have done the same!

The telescoping ladder is one of the most dubious inventions ever. Like reusable toilet paper or rock climbing equipment from Temu
I love crapping on janky tools, but that ladder is solid. Not cheap, especially by Harbor freight standards, but I’ll vouch for it.
i have had one for a few years. its a bit sticky so its a pain to open but it hasnt failed yet. i trust it probably 85% as much as a normal ladder.
Dang.. are you saying I should probably return the toilet paper?
It really beats carrying a 120lb little giant. A lot of roofers use them where they can. I don’t think you’ll ever fully trust it though.

Two reasons the signal booster works: 1. as you said, antenna is directional, which means it has gain, by ignoring signals in other directions, and 2. the antenna is mounted high up. The higher you can get it, the more signal you will get.
The physical size of the antenna element gives you more signal also. The amplifiers inside the phone or the booster are both essentially perfect.
It's probably got better amplifiers than in a phone too.
@@daviddavidson2357 the phone signal amplifiers are for practical purposes zero noise; these are inexpensive these days.

I can't believe he didn't comment on the TV. I did. I said "Holy small consoles.. a TV!!".
I was thinking @Shango066 could come out and get it working with just the sams sheet some wire a random assortment of caps and of course the dim bulb.
He should also either turn that TV into a firebox or an aquarium.
And then complain about the programming being repetitive.
The "betty white topless" got me good!

@@thedoubtfultechnician I wouldn't expect it any other way, comrade.
