    At my old company, we used to store brass terminals in plastic bags. However, after storing them for long period of time, we noticed we had tolerance problems with the brass. After checking them, we noticed bits of micro plastic sticking to the brass. We then stored them in glass jars.

    Something I do when I vacuum seal my ammo, cut a small triangle at one end of the bag (on the edge where the flap is thicker) to make it tearable without the need for scissors.

    • @koljya
      @koljya 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you might also just use a punch for a cutting a round notch or make a simple incision and cover it with a patch of easily- tearable masking tape to avoid accidential opening. ;-)

    Just another thought, if you're the type to worry about a societal collapse then having ammo portioned like this could be good for trading as it would likely become a commodity item used as money.
    Also they make larger Food Saver machines and if want to cut down on time you could make bags ther length of your ammo can and stack them.

    • @jjuggernaut3218
      @jjuggernaut3218 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never “TRADE” ammo since it can be used against you. Keep tons of ammo to GIVE to your own people.
      I understand how that’s counter productive since most people are killed by people they know! 😮

    cabela's vacuum 8' bags work best. pack the ammo in their boxes, 30.06 single box, .223 in twos or threes, 9 single. air remover pack, then a second layer with another oxygen remover. you can store firearms too, triple bag them, don't over don't make them too tight, make them snug. may God bless you, never loose heart.

I’ve been doing it for years very good idea illuminate any corrosion and moisture and I’ve had success with it ever since the vacuum sealer‘s. Have come out to save money you can buy the vacuum bags in a role that do not have any endsFrom eBay or Amazon for about $22

      @@TheOCDHunter Nothing wrong with that and I didn't intend for my comment to come off as criticism.
      I know many people worry about ammo shelf life as I did 30 plus years ago, but I called CCI and had a good talk with one of their experts about this subject in the early 90's. To keep this short, I came away with realizing that just keeping your ammo in the house at room temperature with normal to low humidity and you will have no problems. He told me at that time they were still shooting ammo that was seventy years old that was working perfectly. They spend lots of time researching powder, primers, and ammunition, so I figure they know what is what.

    For $7-8 a pack of 100 - you can toss in a 2 or 5 gram desiccant tab in with your cartridges - depending on caliber/quantity - and double down on dry. Those bags Knick real easy. Especially if it’s a spitzer round. My basement leans a bit damp so every little precaution helps

    • @NayokeHenji
      @NayokeHenji ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed. I don't draw a complete vacuum, only suck most of the air out until it's not excessive, then seal. I always leave a bit of room so there's free air inside and also store a desiccant like you mentioned. the peace of mind in my opinion feels really good and is well worse the bit extra cost.

      It’s really up to you. I like the system because it keeps it really organized and that makes my OCD happy. You can probably make as big as a bag as you want. I like smaller denominations because I’m always going to the range or out hunting, it easy to know how much I have plus more manageable. It is probably more of my OCD for storing it this way. Lol. But the bags I make are just from a roll for food savers. Then I cut them down to the size I want. I’ve cut very long bags to seal salmon up to freeze. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting blessings the ocd Hunter

    HA...YES! Thank you man, I have been saying this for YEARS. I have not heard anyone talk about vacuum sealers for ammo OR their dehydrated food. Nearly every single prepper talks about oxygen absorbers but nothing about vacuum sealers. I have been storing my ammo in tin sheds sealed up nice and tight since 1998 with no problem.
    I have been on a very low calorie diet for a while so I was thinking I should unseal some 20 year old dried and sealed strawberries to see if I feel anything from them. Since I'm starving right now is why I thought would be a good way to test them.

    Unless you are storing it for decades or burying under ground this is unnecessary over kill.
    Zip bags with D backs in an ammo can is just fine if you plan on using the ammo within several yrs.

    I think you can use a strip of plastic from the bag to fold over the pointed tip of the 5.56 rounds inside of the vacuumed sealed bag. Also, you forgot silica packets.

    I have wondered if the negative pressure could alter the power or primer mixture over time. ( In shotgun shells)
    Because the vast majority are not air tight like a rifle/rim fire round.
    Anyone know more about actual shotgun reloading and if it's possible?
    Please, those tungsten long range rounds are horrifically expensive....

      @@TheOCDHunter It's great. I'm definitely going to use your method to store ammunition as well as other items. Do you also have OCD methods for storing food? Given the current situation we're in, I am putting a plan to be able to produce a large amount of food and store it for years. I've been looking into the freeze drying method.

    I'm new to storing ammo and have never heard that moisture is an enemy. I live in southern California, do you really think I need to seal all my ammo like this?

    • @TheOCDHunter
      @TheOCDHunter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Key to good ammo storage is cool, dry, dark place. Moister is a problem in Midwest were there is high humidity. Humidity or moisture will damage all metal over time, and well, ammo is not free from this. I’ve used to use silica in my ammo cans, but I always ended up spilling the beads all over the place. I like vacuum sealing for long term because you removed as much air as you can, it easy to figure out how much you have because of know denomination, when I am out in the bad weather I know it is protected from the elements until I use, and finally it an OCD thing 😄. That being said, nothing is perfect but if you store your ammo following the 3 simple rule: cool, dark, dry place it should last you a long time. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel! - blessings The OCD Hunter

      Run a dehumidifier in your room when packing the ammo.
      Also, 2 seals on the vacuum bags helps keep the seal

    ATTENTION!! For long durations of storage, plastic bags sticks to brass and jams the weapon when firing. Wrap the bullets with paper first and then you can seal!!

    That's alot of wastage, I store my ammo in steel ammo cans. I put some steel wool in a open ziplock bag to act as a moisture wick. The water will rust the steel wool, and not bother the ammo.

  • @joesashiify

    Putting them in zip-lock bags & submerging them in water works too if you don't care for a sealer that uses electricity. Just saying. ✌
