Yep things are getting going. Are you seeing any or much drones yet ??. Two weeks ago my home yard colony were very small or about where I like them to be at this time of year but as of now it looks like they are ready to split . I am going to be going into them today to see where they stand but I already know they are full . I am seeing some drones but not a lot . Last year I was splitting the second week of February so I guess this year it will be the second week of March . Fun Fun Fun . How did your sourwood harvest turn out last season??. Thanks
Had a great sourwood crop! Seeing some drones but not enough. I want my queens to emerge around 3/18 and mate around 3/23. Better drone saturation then
My question has probably been answered but I noticed your hive covers are made with planks. There seems to be gaps when you lift them. Doesn't this allow heat out and water in? Thanks!
Equipment is tight…..on purpose. I custom build all my equipment myself. 1/4” tighter end to end allows the frames to butt up against the wood, which eliminates spots for shb, and the bees propolize the frames them to the box. 1/2” wider box allows the bees to police the area between the outside frame and the box for shb. I don’t understand why it’s not the industry standard.
Yep, brood is bees. Got to always remember it for sure. Lots of work ahead for you. Hope you have a great season Ashby!!
Hey Mike!! Thanks for watching! I hope you have a great season as well!!!
Milk brood is a new term for me! There's never an end to learning as a beekeeper!
NEVER!
The bees are on you mama! Run away!!

Out of so many colonies you pick a great one for show and tell. Thanks.
Great explanation of equalization, I am 6 weeks more or so behind you but anxious to get going.
We’re neck deep in it. C’mon down and I’ll put ya to work….and scratch that itch!

Can you please tell me where you said you get the dipping wax from?
Clarus wax products in SC
enjoyed your video. Do you sale queens by mailing what breed of bee do u carry.
We run Italians. I only ship virgin queens, so the sperm in the spermethica doesn’t get damaged.
I have never seen this excuse before.! @@Ashby_Farms_NC

Yes and yes. I get a lot of criticism for it. Yet they work just fine. The bees propolize some of them shut.
Thanks!
Equipment seems tight need to watch for that buying used home made equipment....
