The harbor Freight store that is coming was known before as Northgate Speedway and before that is was Grossman's, it was like a Home Depot or Lowe's Hardware
I remember when that drug store was Fay's lol. Great video though, really interested to see how construction progresses. Many childhood memories in this plaza.
It’s been said already, but yes, kart track was Northgate Speedway. I helped build it. Was my high school job. And they sponsored my racing kart. But I also remember when it was Hardware Fare. I remember when that whole plaza was thee plaza on front street. When the drug store was a Fays and the grocery store was Grand Union. The old days. lol.
MY GRANDMA CAROL NOJAIM TOOK ME AND MY SISTER CASEY RAFFERTY AND MY MOM UP TOWARDS AMES AND THEN UP TOWARDS GIANT FOOD MARKET ON THE NORTH SIDE OF BINGHAMTON NY WHEN ME AND MY SISTER CASEY RAFFERTY AND MY MOM WERE YOUNG THERE FRANK.
The rumor I heard is that the owner did not want to invest in this plaza until the town sorted out the issues with the water treatment plant behind the old Ames. One of the floods caused the river to divert into a gravel pit on the other side and now the water treatment was pumping smelly stuff onto dry land (you can see the old river bed in your drone shots). The upgrades to the treatment plant have been going on all summer and hopefully soon the only thing we will smell in that area is the Spiedie and Rib Pit.
Know this area like the back of my hand. Yet - appreciate showing the hobby shop. Enjoy the Burglar King 🤴 😂, Dennys and Northgate Liquors🍸 all the time. Wish Touch of Texas was open more. Anybody remember live country at Scribbys' Woodchuck Tavern next to the ☎️ Company building on Henry Street ?

I don't believe that market was a Giant. It was a Great American or a Grand Union, I can't remember which. I used to live on Van Etten Rd in the 1970's and spent summer vacation riding my bike all over this area and up to the plaza at Hinman's Corners. Even opened my first bank account as a kid at the Bankers Trust which was in that same plaza. Where the RC store is now there was a Barker's Department Store. There was also a Carl's Drugstore and Champion Outlet store but this was way back in the mid-to-late 70's. How can it be so long ago!!!
@@fgpalm I guess so. I left in 1980 so I'm sure that there were alot of changes since then. I remember there was a Harris Market across Front St. from there in that smaller plaza. I guess the Great American was up in the plaza where Lowe's is now. I remember the Hinman's Corner Fire station being there in the Lowe's plaza along with a Marine Midland Bank, Radio Shack, Hamlin Drugs and up where the new coffee stand is coming a Dairy Queen and a Kentucky Fried Chicken, can't remember which was first. Fireman's Field Day carnival every summer brings back good memories. 50 years ago - wow time flies! Great channel which ignites great memories!
