Some say there’s no reason to get off at portage- I disagree. For a lot of communities in central and northern Wisconsin up the way on I-39 and US51, portage is the closest and most convenient station. It’s what I do to get to and from my family’s home in central Wisconsin from my home in Illinois. Taking the train to portage and then driving an hour north, it works pretty well. I personally appreciate this station for existing.
This kinda freaked me out because I thought I was the only person in the whole world who said "Weeee" when going down a ramp or decline. No public toilet or water fountain at the depot? Thanks for sharing!
I live in Wisconsin, and I can't think of anytime I would go to Portage... I worked for a couple of railroads and they all referred to Amtrack as Amcrash.
No reason to ever get off at this location. My school paid for a class trip from Columbus to there to visit a hatchery The only time I will ever ride a train.
The reason why train travel is important to invest in is because it serves communities that otherwise would not be connected by any form of public transportation. Not everyone in the world owns a car. There is a reason why the whole town was our celebrating the arrival of the train, it greatly improves the connections elsewhere, provides a huge economic boost to the local businesses, and helps the town itself grow. The success of the Borealis proves how rail can be successful and is worth investing in. I definitely suggest trying out rail travel again, it is in my opinion the best way to travel because it allows you to relax and enjoy the ride rather than stress before a flight or have to conduct yourself in a car. I really hope that you don’t just dismiss rail travel forever, frankly I feel that notion is very limiting and sad, sorry.
Thank you for the update of the station

Looking at the google maps you could of may have gone for pizza. But you indeed took the scenic/nature walk!
I stand by this statement after almost being hit by a car crossing a stroad.

Hehe, I’m glad to have found another. Unfortunately no water fountain or bathroom reviews today, a real bummer for sure.

You can go to Portage to visit the least used Amtrak station.
I used the Portage station when I visited my aunt because the alternative was the one in the Dells that always has horrible traffic.
