  • Hiding speakers and lights in your haunt can be a challenge. In this video, with the help of subscriber, Phil, I'll show you a way to turn any flat surface into a speaker - starting with a tombstone!
    NOTE: I forgot to mention in the video that the exciter is connected to a small amplifier with an audio source.

    I’m thinking these would be great to use for random sound FX around the haunt. You could have crickets for one exciter, maybe howling wind from another, etc. Different sounds coming from many different directions. These little exciters will amp up (no pun intended) your haunt. Very cool. Thanks Phil!

    These are some of the coolest speakers. I have used them in Vader chest plate, Gonk droid, and a mouse droid just to name a few so seeing it used in this capacity is cool. It would be really awesome to mount to a thin sheet of plastic laminate that could be hidden in a compartment inside the tombstone itself... and hide the wiring in a channel or small hole drilled up from the bottom. As others have suggested, random haunt effect sounds could emanate from various items creating a really creepy overall vibe !

  • @GaryGreenway
    @GaryGreenway ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the overall concept but see a problem.
    Did you notice that the transducer sounded better when you were holding it to the foam than it did when you screwed it to the foam? That's because the back of the transducer had a lot of mass (your hand) and it was free to move whatever was attached to (or touching) the front. When you mount the back of the transducer to the radiating surface, like you did with the screws, you reduce the coil movement between the front and back of the transducer. So your sound won't be as loud. I also wonder if that movement will pull the screws loose from the foam.
    One possible solution would be to mount the back of the unit to a block of wood (mass) and mount the wood to the foam via some spindley legs 8 to 12 inches away from the transducer. Think of it as a spider. That will allow some flex between the mounting plane of the transducer to the plane of the radiating surface resulting in increased coil travel and louder sounds.
    Of course, if you didn't lose any sound volume or loosened screws, then all I said was unnecessary,

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn’t. I thought it was considerably better once firmly attached.

    As a note, I've bought these very exciters for my vpin cabinet for one of the feedback mechanisms... the VHB tape ring has failed on pretty much every single one I've installed (I suspect it actually doesn't really provide enough surface area versus weight and vibrations), and I moved over to using screws anyway.

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  ปีที่แล้ว

      A stereo amp is where I connected to it. If you wanted various sounds you could use multiple amps. What I like to do is have different sounds on the L and R so that I'm getting more sounds with the same amount of stereo equipment.

    • @ryanashley6241

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryanashley6241 I would pan one sound to the left stereo channel only, and a different sound to the right stereo channel only. It's my experience in most home haunts that you don't need stereo sound for most audio effects. So with this method you get 2x the sounds with just 1 amp.

      I like using these Pyle amps (model PDA7BU) that have a built in SD card reader because they automatically start playing when the power is turned on. So they can basically run on their own with the help of a smart outlet. As far as stand alone, I'm not sure what you mean but if you can give me a bit more context I'm happy to answer.
