Man if Kendall comes back into that band watch out. To this day seeing them open for the Peppers is one of the greatest Sets I’ve EVER seen a band perform. Mindblowing
I practically grew up on Alice in Chains--at least through high school and undergrad. Something about a crazy good band covering them only increases my love of the originals (maybe it has something to do with how respected AiC is in the music community). Anyway, holy cow! every time I listen to freaking Fishbone of all groups cover Them Bones.... Blow away! Deep funk meets the grungiest of all grunge and it KILLS.
The little easter egg intro from their tune I Wish I Had A Date makes this cover even better. My band used to cover Fishbone and AiC when I was a younger man, this brings back so many dope assed memories.
In all my years i’ve never heard Alice spoken in Fishbone. Possibly the best start to a work day in a loooooong time. Perma-grin right now. That was f’n amazing.

Alice in Chains and Fishbone have quite the history together. They both headlined Lollapalooza in 1993. Chris Dowd (Fishbone Keys/Vocals) was in Jerry Cantrell's solo band when he toured in the late '90s. That's the best way to describe them live is "Festive!" Seen them in the 90's three times.
Wow. Just wow. I saw Fishbone for the FIRST time about 4 or 5 years ago. I thought I was going to a show with a bunch of old timers that were likely past their prime. I left saying it was one of the greatest live shows I had ever seen. These guys are so underrated. Their live energy tops anything I have ever seen in my life and I have been a performer and spectator at a lot of shows. Good to see these dudes are still crushing it like no other.
So great to hear. Saw them a few times in the late 80s early 90s, and the energy and musicianship was just unreal.
Keyboard player had a broken leg in a cast, and was still jumping around his rotating stand. No excuses, go all out
That's great to hear. I'd like to see them now that everyone is back in minus Kendall Jones. Supposed to be a new album being worked on as well.
Man if Kendall comes back into that band watch out. To this day seeing them open for the Peppers is one of the greatest Sets I’ve EVER seen a band perform. Mindblowing
They took an already great song and took it to the next level, which is exactly what a good cover song does.
One of the most criminally underrated rock bands on earth. Great version of the AIC classic with a little Fishbone sauce 👏👏🤘
Them fish bones anyone?
😂
Nice.
I guess they picked this track on purpose:)
I guess mow they should do an entire cover album of AiC songs?
Right on
I practically grew up on Alice in Chains--at least through high school and undergrad.
Them Horns!
Damn... Fish killing it on the drums!!
Phillip "Fish" Fisher. Legendary Original drummer for Fishbone. He's playing on the tribute to Alice in Chains.
Way fewer words than I used - captured my sentiments much better too.
They actually toured together in 1993 on the lollapalooza tour. Norwood Fisher, the bassist, also contributed to Jerry Cantrell's first solo album. They've all been friends for years.
@@xavierrhone4929 Angelo also did the horns on "Cut You In"
Jazed and Confused
Jerry of AIC used to say Fishbone was the band they never wanted to follow because you couldn't top them. They're that good. The AIC guys have remained friends with the other bands that co-headlined Lollapalooza.
yes! Fishbone's best metal songs, Sunless Saturday, Servitude, Swim, and End the Reign .. didn't have horns!!! They fixed it here!
agreed!
Multiply this by two hours or so and you have a Fishbone show. Relentlessly awesome band!
I saw Fishbone a few times back in the 90's; they have one of the best live shows ever.
They did the song justice! Loved this!!!
This version kick my ass!!
OMG THE DRUMMER IS KILLING IT!!!!!
Been a longtime fan of Fishbone and especially Fish, but they smashed this out of the park. The energy level here is incredible especially since they are not kids. Great to see them all together, especially Kendal playing with them. gonna play it again now.
Had never heard of the band Fishbone, being only a AiC fan...when i heard this my face went wtf? but in a totally amazing way. Mega respect for something immeadiately recognizeable but still distinctly unique!
Same here! A great experience as an AIC fan. Almost like being reincarnated into an alternate 1992 all over again.
Very influential band for a long time. Also, they were my favorite band for a long time too.
Never really got into Fishbone, not that there is anything wong with them, just never got around to it. Feeling some regret now... this is fucking killer. KILLER I TELL YA!
They have great albums, peep them out!
Pancho, I'm with you. Always read about Fishbone but never listened to them. Based on this song, I'm about to start.
Definitely go back and check some material from Truth and Soul for starters.
They are so musically diverse and talented at many styles... you will probably find something in their work to like
You will not be disappointed Pancho > 🏁🇯🇲
Never understood why Fishbone wasn't more popular.
Dude…I don’t pretend to have known Layne on *any* level whatsoever. But knowing what I know about his love of Prince, David Bowie, etc. I have a feeling he would’ve *loved* this
Back in the 90s, Fishbone played Fall Fest at my college... they were selling these “F*ck Racism!” T-shirts!
I swear I have watched the MoPop Alice In Chains induction concert multiple times and Fishbone's cover of Them Bones is my go to cover song every time. Great job!!
Fishbone has been an integral part of AIC's music since the early days.
OMG What a PERFECT Pairing :D FISHBONE are the Amoeba which gave birth to pretty much every 90's LA Band. And yet they're still the one and only original they always were (!)
no they werent...
AIC is a very under appreciated band by the mainstream but no where near under appreciated as Fishbone. Both are true fucking giants of the realm of music and should be loved and respected as such. What an amazing cover!
Greatest live band ever...
Fishbone slaughtered "them bones" my hat's off to you guys
I ... believe ... FISHBONE are the real deal! 🤯 Epic stuff.
I wouldnt have believed it but... wow that was awesome. Those horn stabs are just great. I love the spin they put on an all-time-favorite song. So good.
I love that fishbone are still as eccentric and fun as they were when I saw them years ago. They gave a pretty sick dimension to this classic. It sounds so BIGGGG!
How is nobody talking about Kendall being there? Great rendition
Kendall is still alive and sane? Awesome!
Get on their fan page on FB, he stalked about a lot. So far this appearance is a one off but there’s hope of them being a 2 guitar band again 😬
Probably because you need to be pretty far down the Fishbone rabbit hole to recognize him or the significance of his being there.
@@jonhultman2338
Kendall was on their best and biggest-selling records.
Was about to say...
This is how you pay respect to a song while making it your own. Much Love.
Once again Fishbone brings the flavour for all to savour. Great cover from one of the greatest bands to ever have graced us with their presence... All Hail The Mighty Fishbone 🤘😁
Dammmmmmuuuummmmm..... that’s how you freakin blow it UP...
I’ve heard many versions of this song and this THE BEST besides the original.... Rocking MY ASS OFF....🤘
Dig deep folks...Fishbone is worth the effort. Crushed it!!
This was just a pure shot - incredible. That whole show was great with a couple of exceptions, but this stood out. These guys are not only great musicians but music fans - like AIC put through an Ornette Coleman filter.
That metaphor with Ornette Coleman is brilliant.
I remember seeing Fishbone in a scuzzy club in Portland in the late 80s. People were throwing shit up on stage and the singer picks up a shoe and says “Nike? We only do Vans” (paraphrased, it’s been a few years).
FISHBONE! Forgotten pioneers. Da bomb!
Oh my! Big Fishbone and AIC fan in the 1990s so this is a pleasant surprise. As others have mentioned, if you're not familiar with Fishbone, then "Give A Monkey..." is a good start
I enjoyed "In Your Face"..
My pic for a start would be Truth and Soul. It changed music for me.
Fishbone absolutely kills this. I haven't listen to them since the 90's - seems they have only gotten better with age! This cover and the Dallas Green cover of 'Rain when I die' are the highlights of this incredible tribute to AICs.
Would LOVE to hear a studio version of this! Amazing cover! Stayed true to the original frame (fish skeleton) but spread that funky/punky Fishbone DNA all over it! Angelo is almost 60 and still looks and rocks out like he's 20! Respect!
Truly jaw-dropping cover. I didn't watch this when it first came out but I've been going back and watching AIC's unplugged and got recommended this. WHAT ENERGY!!
What an awesome interpetation! Love the horns.
I'm just glad to see Special K with the guys. Live long and Healthy! FIshbone
Wow. That Bloody Awesome..and their Original Lineup too!
OMG! It's like my favorite band doing a cover of my favorite band!!!
Fishbone Familyhood member checking in! Can't believe I haven't seen this awesome performance until now. This was such a flavorful cover! Excellent!
Cannot. Stop. Watching/listening.
one of the best rentidions of a song I've seen in many years, what a masterpiece!
I keep coming back to this. What an amazing cover from a fantastic band.
Same here!
Wow! I'm happy Fishbone still plays. I saw them quite a few times throughout the years. But this is a surprise cover I wasn't sure ......but of course they pull it off!! Great job.
This is a fantastic reinterpretation of “Them Bones”, so, good.
I just shed tears...knowing the history of these 2 bands...WHEW!!! THANK YOU!!!
How can a person not like this cover?
This was incredible. Such groove, vocal chops, and vibrancy. Them Bones reimagined.
Alice in Chains and Fishbone have quite the history together. They both headlined Lollapalooza in 1993. Chris Dowd (Fishbone Keys/Vocals) was in Jerry Cantrell's solo band when he toured in the late '90s. Angelo (Fishbone vocals) and Norwood (Fishbone bass) both played on Jerry's solo record, Boggy Depot. In the early days of Alice in Chains, Jerry would often say that he hated going on after Fishbone because they set the bar too damn high.
Perhaps, one of the best covers I've ever heard of this song. Fish Bone always make music sound so alive !
And Kendal Jones too!!!
Really happy to see him back with the boys!!
@@scottyb7979 So am I. It was quite disappointing when Special K left, and the group was never the same afterwards. The later editions of the band were good in their own right, but they just never had the magic that the original band had.
Fishbone resurrecting Alice in Chains gave me chills.
Best AIC cover ever. Period. No contest. I actually like it better than the original and I really love the original. Funkin’ Aces.
Fishbone for life!
Man I remember a group of older skaters were Preaching Fishbone to me in the early 90's, glad to see they still fkn kill it.
