not sure if you know, but you’re able to change the atmosphere of the game in the settings when you pause it whilst freeroaming. It gets rid of the Matrix-green hue that the world has, makes it look more real :)
@Carl Gunderson the demo is there to show you the power of the series X/S +pc when running unreal engine 5, it's supposed to look realistic that is why you can change world settings 🍖
This is a tech demo for UE5. They probably didnt spent too much time on the physics since those are pretty much the same as in UE4. So we won't see any updates on this since its not a game
As someone who does not have a console , I love watching you play these tech demos while I live vicariously through your adventures until there is a PC version!
BeamNG destroys this 😂 This kinda damage would work epic for a GTA-like game where you want damage but not hit-something at 15MP/H and the car's stuffed 😆
This is probably some of the best editing I've ever seen in a youtube video, the little sound effects, the stuttered zoom when you stutter your english sometimes, the commentary, all so good! Keep up the great work Neil!
Wow i was just playing it’s probably the best game ever beam just has that beautiful soft body physics and perfect suspension and customizations for all the cars and lets not forget the mods
Looks like they have a bunch of pre-modeled damage options that get selected based on where the car was hit. Very clever way of doing it, especially with the head-on pole collision model. It'll be awesome when we finally have to power to do full soft-body physics like BeamNG in a game like this, with that much traffic.
They actually have a control rig that detects collisions and deforms the mesh as mentioned in the documentation: The vehicles in City Sample make use of Control Rig with the Chaos Vehicle system to apply unique deformations to each vehicle. This means that each crash is achieved dynamically by utilizing the vehicle's driving dynamics. Collisions are detected using several physics bodies placed around the vehicle's body, and constraint plasticity provides the ability for physics constraints to permanently deform after passing a specified threshold. The vehicle Control Rig contains movable constraints that are locked along a single axis. As they are moved along that axis, they will deform part of the car's body. In the City Sample, a single Control Rig is used for all drivable vehicles to apply dynamic deformation. It is named CR_Frame_Destructible and located in the Content/Vehicle/Animation folder of the Content Browser.
The crash physics isn't actually that good, the damage may look good but it's just levels of damage that doesn't really adjust to how you crash like how racing Sims show damage unlike say wreckfest/beam
the traffic density. finally something realistic in a city game. unreal engine 5 is the biggest technology leap in gaming software since the invention of video games in the first place. ue5 is just, something else. it's a fucking monster and i can't wait to see full proper implementations of it in big ass games. hopefully i achieve the funding to be one of them.
Minivans can be surprisingly quick, my '98 Windstar had a 3.8L V6. Not sure what the top end was, but it had some pretty good pickup. Wasn't a manual like my current ride, but I still miss that car sometimes.
This game's graphics and physics r absolute fire , and i think the slower u r while crashing more dng is dealt to u and if ur faster and high speed , less dmg.
I thought they did release this on pc? I know that you have to download the ue5 editor then import the map in. Or someone packaged up the tech demo in one file.
Yeah it's available for PC, in both the ways you mentioned. However I'm not sure the performance would be better than the PS5 since it's not optimised for PC, but I'm glad it's on PC now
I'd like to see you move the ramp truck to the spot where you found a glitch in the matrix and jump a car into THAT water to see if you can drive at the level the car you flipped out there landed at.
It would be a lot better if they made them street light objects and anything like that crashable, like if you ram into one of them poles they'll like snap or have a realistic physic towards it, y'know what I mean?
Looks amazing, the vehicle physics aren't meant to be realistic but "cinematic" (which is okay, I guess), but it's not optimized for PC at all and can either run amazingly or terribly.
Reminds me a bit of GTA IV with the level of deformation you can get, it's clearly not soft body, but not the per-rendered stuff some games use either.
*backs into car at 6mph* Breaks taillight, pops and damages trunk and disconnects bumper. *t-bones stationary porsche at 96mph* less front end damage than GTA V. Amazing crash physics... yes...
This is honestly my favorite kind of damage model because there's never any glitching or clipping, and sense it's basically drawn by an artist you can get these really nice looking dents and rankles. Plus it's easier to get particles and what not. And with such a beautiful lighting engine and thought put into it, you really can't go wrong.
