Advanced Boxing Footwork | Shift | Create Angles

  • In this video I go over an advanced footwork technique. The reason this is advanced is not necessarily the movement but rather the risk involved. In order to do this footwork technique you have to go against the basics which is putting your feet together, switching from conventional to southpaw or vice versa, and leaning over the top of the lead foot. All of these things will get you off balanced but you have to trust the movement in order to get it done. SO, if you are a beginner do not try this yet until you are very comfortable with your footwork and understand the risk involved.
The SHIFT, has been heavily popularized by Lomachenko. He is known for his footwork and high boxing IQ. I show you guys the break down of the shift in this video. The SHIFT is great to use to create unusual angles. It is quick and explosive and is a great setup for a power lead hook. I broke it down into 3 steps, give it a try!

Shifting. Since I am a southpaw boxer, it’s the art and science of me throwing punches from my left hand dominant side (southpaw) then while throwing punches OR NOT, changing my feet position to an orthodox (right handed) stance to unleash my punches. The best boxers that incorporate shifting are Dmitry Pirog 🇷🇺, Gennady Golovkin (GGG), “Iron” Mike Tyson, Marvelous Marvin Hagler (R.I.P.), and the great Jack Dempsey (R.I.P.). Thank you my fellow boxer and champion Yuyu for your boxing expertise and this excellent video upload.

Sir I want to commend you on an absolutely fantastic instructional. I have been trying to learn this SHIFT foot movement for several weeks watching close to 25 videos. I especially wanted to learn it after Tripple G stated in a video that it was his favorite foot movement. But he cautioned that most people make the mistake of hopping with both feet or crossing their legs/feet together to make the shift. He explained that what he does first is move his back leg/foot first and then makes the pivot. I watched him demonstrate over and over again and I could not pick up what he was doing and what he was trying to get across---that is until I watched you break it down. It all made sense and after watching your instructional I went back to triple G's demo and I could make out what he was doing.
I like how you showed the shift in STAGES---that was really great because it shows someone like me how to learn the movement in stages. But what I really loved was your showing how to do a deep shift to get to the back or far side of the opponent, which is what Tripple G likes to do.
You are a great instructor and your teaching method is fantastic for people like myself who need to learn in stages and in a step-by-step methodology.

I believe I commented before on your video. Excellent explanation of the angle step ( If that's the proper name for it) I believe footwork is the key in all martial arts. Especially boxing. And I feel this actually movement is one of the secret weapons of boxing. There's not to many other videos I've seen that even show this. Great. Keep up the great work.
