Literally myself crying when i first heard If You Leave Me
Hi, Korean carat here! the thing about the green frog you mentioned in 24:37 is indeed an actual reference to Korean folktale! although there are many variations to the story, it is mainly about a young green frog who always did not listen to his mother and "did everything in reverse." When the mother frog becomes ill and felt her death is near later on, she asks her son to bury her by the river. Although this would clearly wash her body away to the river when it rains, she did this to make her son to do the opposite(not bury her by the river). However, this time, the green frog regrets not obeying his mother all this time, and decides to build his mother's grave by the river to properly listen to her last will. Afterwards, it became a story in Korean culture to explain the reason why the frogs cry so loud in the rain, which is according to this story, is because the green frog is afraid that the mother's grave might wash away when it rains.
In short, so "the green frog" usually refers to a person who does not listen to others and only does everything backwards.

The only problem I have with Don Quixote is how short it is. Woozi needs to bring Wonwoo into production more often because he is GOOD
This album flexed Seventeen as 13 vocalists. Every member sang beautifully - harmonies were insane. And Dino! I think Dino was Woozi's favorite this era. He had a moment in almost every song. I waited for this review, so I'm glad it's here.
Dino is like the ultimate maknae. He can sing dance and rap and he's a visual, basically everyone in seventeen is a visual. What can't he do
also - there is a story for the structure of the album! I'm not sure how accurate this is but they've mentioned that its the journey of facing their fears ie. Realisation from Darling, facing the sun in HOT, marching onward with Don Quixote and March, and eventually they overcome their fears and everything turns into Ash at the end.

Fun fact, Accorcding to Woozi 'Bout you' was done first. 'Bout you' was done 2-3 years ago but the track suited well with the album so they decided to include it.🤧 I’m glad they include Bout you now, its an amazing song🔥🧡

the highlight medley played this album imo, after the album was released i realised there wasn't a SINGLE skip - I only liked Shadow and 'bout you from the highlight medley, but now Don Quixote and Ash have me in an absolute chokehold
omg i totally agree!! i didn't dislike anything necessarily, but there were a couple that didn't make me feel any particular way which is unusual, so i was absolutely blown away once i heard all the full versions and came to love them all. i realized i really should just trust them😂

I don't know if you realized it afterwards but you reacted to the songs in a different order than what it is in the album lol so If You Leave Me is indeed towards the end. I personally think of it as the actual ending of the album and Ash as an outro song.
Seventeen mentioned that the title of this album Face The Sun represents their aspiration : the sun is a very influential and important existence in this world, but getting too close to it causes pain. Here they're saying they want to become the sun for their fans, and are ready to bear all the pain and struggles on the way to it. The album has very strong themes of sun, heat, burning and shadows reresenting their goal, their confidence and their inner fears, and being reborn as a new version of themselves. I think a lot of this can be tied back to Seventeen renewing their contracts last year.
I think they start with Darling because it's a sound that Carats are used to from them, something bright and mellow. Then they go into Hot to proclaim their goal for this album. Don Quixote and March is about their confidence to march forward no matter what other people think of them. Domino is Seventeen showing how they're gonna evolve their "Freshteen" music that everyone knows and love. It's a familiar vibe from them but in a new package. Shadow is very explicitly about them facing their fears and past selves and learning that they have to embrace those if they want to keep moving forward. The next 2 songs literally represent that : 'Bout You is a continuation to their debut song Adore U (and directly referenced it in its lyrics) and expose their fears of Carats leaving them in IF You Leave Me. Finally, Ash is the result of the change they've experienced through this album, Seventeen being reborn anew.

hi caitlin! about the green frog 🐸 part.. the8 does like that character, but in this context, it's about a korean folktale! i just looked it up, but it's something along the lines of "Two green frogs always do the opposite of whatever their long-suffering mother tells them to do", which makes sense because the8's next line is "even if you tell me what not to do, i'll still do it, babe" 😂 hope it helps! enjoyed this reaction so much 💖💖

The Highlight medley is definitely one of the key...Although I love seventeen so much, I also have some doubts or whatnot about how this full album would play..since their An Ode is very good....I also see some people having some doubts about the songs in this album after listening to the highlight medley

Basically Don Quixote is about a man who reads so many knight stories that he starts to think he is actually one and goes on adventures. The point is that everything that happens it’s on his head. Something along those lines
Face the Sun is the prime example of a no-skip album because every song can literally pass off as a title track

This was my exact reaction upon listening to DON QUIXOTE. I bopped so hard ngl. When Woozi said on their interview on IU's Palette that almost all the songs in the album were candidates to be the title track he MEANT it.
Actually Don Quixote is a book from spain and i think is the second most selled book in the world and the book is about this old man who went crazy from reading books and thought that he was a knight and people would call him weird and say that the things that he saw weren’t real. I hope this helps(also ik i’m a little late but i just recently read the book in my spanish class and thought i would come on here and say this!)
If You Leave Me really gets me because I felt like they value Carats so much. And at the same time I felt like I value them as much. Like I can't leave them, yknow? I can't lose them yknow? That's how much they formed a part in my life and I can't imagine my life in the distant future without them. It's just impossible.
I love Don Quixote so much, it's been on repeat since the album came out. The beat, the vocals!!!! It's definitely my favorite. My second favorite is March, which I saw was on part 2, I can't wait to see your reaction to it. I'm usually not a fan of slower songs, but I really like If you leave me. That song is gorgeous.And Shadow is so good too haha so many good songs on that album!

I had chose Don Quixote as ma favorite from this album but Shadow just proved me wrong OMG
in an interview with IU, Woozi expressed how every song in this album was a contender to be a title track and it shows and makes so much sense and I think that’s iconic!!
This whole album is great, but man Shadow..... is everything to me. When the acoustic guitar comes in, I just lose it rocking out every time, and then I remember the lyrics and want to cry-- I'm a sucker for those rock vibes with sentimental lyrics and meanings.
When Caitin said that Don Quixote could be a title track, it reminded me that Woozi said that the SEVENTEEN members actually voted for the title track cuz he consider every track on “Face the Sun” as a potential title track
Ash suprised the hell out of me. I thought it was an interesting sound for them during highlight medley and while i know i dont enjoy the type of song i assumed it was ganna be, i was still looking forward to seeing them try it out ONLY TO GET BITCHED SLAPPED BY AN ABSOLUTE BOP LISTENING TO THE FULL VER LIKE IT GOT ME ASH ON ASH ON ASH ON ASH ON ASH TO THE SUN TO THE MOON BLAZE UP ANEW

i'm the same way with ballads and slower songs. i really never gravitate towards them ever, but for whatever reason, seventeen ballads just really hit different

i believe they said the las two contestants for title were don quijote and hot; and seungkwan also really liked shadow as a tt!! Also I feel like the whole album is an absolute grower like I wasn't very keen on some of them at the first listen but the more I listen to the album the better they all get lol (that or I am a totally biased carat which is also true) hugs caitlin!!!
I honestly don't know which song is my favourite in this album. Each time i listen to it i think 'oh, this is my favourite', then the next time i'm like 'no, this one'. It's a whole mess 😂
But I think if you leave me is definitely on the top3 every time. The harmonies, the lyrics, the way they sang it... I agree with you, we can hear the desperation in their voices. And that's enough for me to be one of my favourites for sure.

I haven't checked out the lyrics on my own bc I wanted to do it with you. Your album review always allow me to understand and appreciate the album from a different perspective. Shadow is in my top3 and one thing that I really like about the song is the melody makes me feel like I'm running from something. So in this case, I guess they're talking about the shadow. Our focus for this track was the contrast between the track and theme of the song. Perhaps the contrast that makes the sounds feel slightly exaggerated is also where the sentiments of ‘80s and hyperpop stem from. The track is quite rhythmic in nature with its roots in 2-step, which builds a contrast to the weight of the idea of embracing our inner shadows.

When I first heard the highlight medley, I thought If you leave me was going to be my fav since I love ballads/soft/sad songs but then shadow took my breath away and it's my fav song on FTS album. Shadow just hits differently for me. Still, all of the tracks from FTS album sound amazing
Hi Caitlin love you ! I just wanna to say something that would be special for you because it is for me too. Scoups suffers from anxiety but now he's way better than before. Why it hit homes? Because I relate so much with him... You haven't seen "hit the road" yet but there is an episode for each member and on Scoups episode he talks about that... He had to gone on hiatus because of that during their an ode tour and it was really hard for him... The first time I read the lyrics from the chorus of Shadow I cried... I felt it sooo hard. First for me but then for him... His lines saying "Shadow my shadow, my shadow I hated you and hurt you" oh my... I cried so hard it just reminded me of him saying that he hated himself because of running away ...it was so painful... So I can see how this song is part of the journey of facing their fears. Somehow I just wanted to let you know why is a special song for me (?) idk jaksjkj love you again

What i love about seventeenlyrics is bcs they are not going to post the lyrics videos straight away after the album has released, especially the title track, bcs they want carats to stream first on yt and other music platform :)
Not to forget that the color coded for every members' parts are also accurate, although sometimes, it could be wrong too but they always write corrections in the comments.
They also put references for certain lyrics in the comments for further understanding :)

Woozi, Seungkwan, and Hoshi confirmed that IYLM is a song meant for Carats and it make sense why the Leader Line composed it. I've read somewhere that Hoshi mentioned that he went to their studio's corner to compose the song and ended up crying while writing it
