1/31/89 - from Pat Sajak's late night show. I cut out the interview, so this is only music, more or less. This is just before the release of Yo Frankie.
Dion was as much liked as Elvis when I was a teenager, he was right up there with the greats. We all loved him, and couldn't wait for his next hit. Keep going Dion, the world loves you.
As soon as he made it big he started on heroin and was a major drug user for year's, he lived the rock and roll lifestyle and could afford the cleanest most expensive stuff, what's surprising is that he made it through, I guess that's down to affording expensive dry out clinic's, otherwise he'd have been long dead like any other street junkie

Yes indeed, gotta love it when the lead guitar guy in the band noodles off a few licks then wants to play along with the whole band while Dion just has a blast. His new 2020 CD Blues With Friends is awesome & the guys lost nothing after all these years of solid rockin'....
WOW!!!! Just gold!!! This is incredible stuff. DIon has incredible charisma and personality, qualities so lacking in most of today's performers. he is just fun to be around!! Great stuff again, and thanks for posting.

Bless your heart for uploading this. I had fond memories of watching this episode when it aired, and I hadn't seen it for so many years. We had taped it, but sadly the tape was lost over a decade ago. I linked this video today on Facebook, in remembering my Dad. He passed away in the summer of 2001, and I think of him fondly every father's day that passes. Dion was a favorite singer of his growing up, and one of mine since I was a baby. We wore out so many of his tapes in the car stereo. ^_^
Jake Blues, I had the privilege of meeting Dion. And I have what you may call a to much information story about the meeting. He was visiting a church I used to fellowship at In New York. He had heard me sing with the church group. The group was finished singing and I went to the bathroom. There he was at the urinal. I stepped up to use the one next to him, and he says, "Hey man you got a great sound", "I hope you sing next week". Awkward place for a compliment, but it was Dion. I wasn't able to go the following week, he happened to sit next to my wife and asked "Hi is your hubby here today". Laugh if you must but I had a moment with Dion, and I'll never forget it.
There aren't many greats from the 50's still performing at peak levels but Dion is still at it. For me, Dion was always up there with Elvis, Cash, Orbison and Jerry Lee -- and Dion was from New York. He has that classic rock voice, that terrific rock personality and always delivered the goods. His doo wop tunes were never silly. Check one of his hottest obscure tracks -- "Daddy Rollin'" -- here on TH-cam -- definitely one of the best rock performances ever recorded.

Dion is one beautiful guy with a great personality and he has a strong faith in God too he does not hide his light under a bushel I would love to meet him in person someday
Dion loves making people happy with his songs and he is not in the industry for the money he is not in it just for fame and fortune lijd 85%of musicians are today. He could be singing on the streets without an orchestra singing acapela with the Belmonts and just making folks happy he just wants to make folks happy with his songs and talent and he has a gorgeous smile. To boot God has blessed him tremendously and he loves sharing thst blessing with others that is spevial
tonypicc47 My post wasn't negative, I really like Dion. I am pleased he is still around and performing. McCartney's voice has aged as well. It is natural.

Don't Start Me Talkin' was Sonny Boy Williamson. Dion did at least two solid blues albums, one a tribute to Robert Johnson I liked better than Clapton's. He described being taught guitar by Skip James when he was young, before the Belmonts took off.
dion dimucci, invented rock and roll cool, kieth ricards, springsteen are imitators his last 5 albums are the best hes ever done, and thats saying something cuz this is fuckin dion we are talking about
Absolutely love it but, Why change and destroy the song The Wanderer. Why sing it completely different to the way we all know it. I hate when singers do this I switch completely off
The king of the Bronx is 81. Long live the king!

was he really liked as much as elvis?
That guy has some kind of voice. I knew he played some guitar, but I didn't realize he was that good.
Man this guy's is just a natural. Never got caught up in fame, just a lover of music who shares his amazing talent with us. Thanks, Dion.
He got caught up in that Heroin though (He's long past clean now thank god)

All time favorite, great time to grow up. 76 it’s my music still he was Mr Cool
Dion is the most open, unpretentious guy ever. It is really "all good" with Dion.
Yeah, well except for two words..."Allen West"
Dion is truly phenomenal!
He’s still performing in 2022!
Vintage Dion - so talented and so spontaneous and so New York!
This guy can pick. Had no idea he was that skilled of a guitarist

Dion was and is totally bad ass. He didn't turn into a walking oldies show or a caricature of his '60s self.
Don't Start Me Talkin' - Sonny Boy Williamson (Rice Miller) on Chess Records.....................

👍🏻
Me too!
damn he's good.
Dion, being the real thing, leaves the clammy-assed ignoroids gobsmacked with an example of actual music.

I really want to to hear that exact music just like that without the cheesy studio effects and band added in. That music is incredible.

Well, he did demolish one of my top 5 songs in history [The Wanderer], but I'll forgive him, this time.
I also don't care for the blues version if that's what you mean.
There is no B7 in wanderer
@@Harp_and_Guitar_Moving_Forward Yes there is in the key of D
Absolutely love it but, Why change and destroy the song The Wanderer. Why sing it completely different to the way we all know it. I hate when singers do this I switch completely off
You try singing the same song the same way for over 50yrs...it would kill your soul.
