When I was a pre-teen, in the 60's, I was at a friend's house, and we were playing records. My friend put a record on his record player, and I heard an absolutley awesome sound that shook deep in my soul. The song was "Ruby Baby", and the artist was of course, Dion!! I have been a big fan of his ever since that day!!!
Dion Christian folk rock inspired me to become a Christian along with Christian radio, but Dions words moved me to Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. He runs away after concert. I wanted album autographed. No way Jose.
What Dion had that many artists didn't have and couldn't learn, and you can hear it in his vocals -- was attitude. That's why Lou Reed loved this guy and he's still performing today at 75+. You have rock & roll with Elvis, you have smooth diversified professionalism with Bobby Darin, and attitude with Dion DiMucci. And two of them came from the freaking Bronx, New York. Yeah...Dion sings and records blues today, and he is incredible. Dion, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry & Little Richard (and you know, considering that he's still performing live & recording I would have to add Chubby Checker to that list) --- they are the last in a long line of legendary performers. What a career. This too -- one hot performance.
@@markoberacher8191 February 3 that is what they say but I can think of so many great groups in the 1960's who made great music. The 60's was a who's who of great music! Dion was on that winter tour and claims fate saved him.
This song is an electric blues-rock guitarist's dream! I could solo an hour on top of this great rhythm. Good example of a tune I could listen back-to-back for a long time!
We saw Dion (2) times in Rochester, Michigan at Meadow Brook on the Oakland University campus by the Dodge Mansion in the 1990's & he put on a great concert! We sat right up front about 5 rows back. Also, at the concert were the great Everly Brothers! What a show for they did all their hits! The Wanderer gets everyone rocking! Dion still has it! Tony Trotta
from the '50s to the present one of the best ever. music i always seem to come back to. dion has always been a very ,very special talent and my all time favorite.
I love the dude laughing, mockingly, in the back - especially after Bobby says "he's The King of the Bronx man, The King of Fordham Road.” Then, Dion comes out with some serious 'tude and rocks it!
In high school, I liked the song "Runaround Sue" and bought the record. My best friend had been dating the head cheerleader, a statuesque redhead of uncommon beauty. She was from the wealthy side of town and everyone knew her. And, her name was Sue. After graduation, she dropped y friend like a rock and went off to college. At some point, asked to borrow the record. I don't remember if I ever got it back, but my friend never recovered.
You have to ✔️ the lyrics, especially the last verse. People called me the scandalizer The world was my appetizer I turned gangs into fertilizer King of the New York streets I broke hearts like window panes For breakfast I'd eat nails and chains To my kingdom I'd proclaim King of the New York streets I floored my accelerator All the way to the equator Just a local gladiator King of the New York streets Well, I was only sixteen years old So what could I have known? In my mind these passing years The legend sure has grown People come from miles around To see my royal tenement crown Always up and never down King of the New York streets Schools gave me nothing needed To my throne I proceeded Every warning went unheeded King of the New York streets I stood tall from all this feeling I bumped my head on heaven's ceiling Shooting dice and double-dealing King of the New York streets Each time I jumped behind the wheel Of a pin-striped custom Oldsmobile The guys would bow and the girls would squeal King of the New Yrk streets Local bullies I deflated Back street jive that I translated Top Ten girls were all that I dated King of the New York streets I didn't need no bodyguard I just ruled from my backyard Living fast, living hard King of the New York streets Well, I was wise in my own eyes I awoke one day and I realized You know this attitude comes from cocaine lies
I would bet you 20 bux that the bass guitarist that is singing backing vocals stage left of Dion is also an Elvis impersonator. Probably a pretty good one.

Dion is hands down, THE MAN! Beautiful dude, soulful rocker and the Blues man personified. God bless you.
Is 77 now and still has the pipes and looks great. I think his Mom is 102 and he's been sober since 1968.
Go Dion.
I've been really wasted since 1968 does his Mum want a date?

You have to ✔️ the lyrics, especially the last verse.
People called me the scandalizer
The world was my appetizer
I turned gangs into fertilizer
King of the New York streets I broke hearts like window panes
For breakfast I'd eat nails and chains
To my kingdom I'd proclaim
King of the New York streets I floored my accelerator
All the way to the equator
Just a local gladiator
King of the New York streets Well, I was only sixteen years old
So what could I have known? In my mind these passing years
The legend sure has grown People come from miles around
To see my royal tenement crown
Always up and never down
King of the New York streets Schools gave me nothing needed
To my throne I proceeded
Every warning went unheeded
King of the New York streets I stood tall from all this feeling
I bumped my head on heaven's ceiling
Shooting dice and double-dealing
King of the New York streets Each time I jumped behind the wheel
Of a pin-striped custom Oldsmobile
The guys would bow and the girls would squeal
King of the New Yrk streets Local bullies I deflated
Back street jive that I translated
Top Ten girls were all that I dated
King of the New York streets I didn't need no bodyguard
I just ruled from my backyard
Living fast, living hard
King of the New York streets Well, I was wise in my own eyes
I awoke one day and I realized
You know this attitude comes from cocaine lies
Damn...that last line...thanks for scribing it because I would have missed it 🔥
