    why did you complicate it? there are grooves in front and behind the wheel cover that can fit 2x6 or 2x8 and then it lays flat over the wheels, the gate is adjustable heights and serves as the third support

    This seems like a solution in search of a problem...it is simpler to just create a platform the same height as the wheel wells and carry sheets on the flat instead of vertically...further, carrying sheet goods on edge is not viable for pickups with caps.
    Carrying them on the flat is just more practical with a lot less fuss and muss..the bracket you built seems more akin to a medieval torture device.
    I had a Ford Ranger with a 6ft bed and cap and routinely carried upwards of 13 3/4 inch furniture grade prefinished maple plywood sheets secured with ratcheting straps with no problems...

    Why not use the cutouts in the bed that are there to make a flat deck over the wheel wells? You actually set your tape measure down into one of the channels.

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I considered that but that’s more of a construction project. I wanted to easy solution that I could just pop in and pop out

      @OverlandUnderground 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DIYHGP it’s more of a “construction project” to simply lay 3 boards down? Unlikely

      @@OverlandUnderground those notches on the wheel well don't look as useful as what Chevy puts in trucks like the Colorado (and Ford is now doing with the Maverick). I'm not sure you can simply lay 2x4s on top of the wheel wells in the older Rangers like the one in the video.

    What the hell? The bed (aside from the wheel wells) is 5' wide. Why not just put a moving blanket across the top of your tailgate, in the up position, and slide 'em in with the lightweight 2' overhang supported by the tailgate?

      That way is not suitable for the freeway drive home. When I buy better grade plywood, I dont want to have it marked up by the pressure points from the wheel wells.

    • @pythonflying
      @pythonflying ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly what I do. Unless you are a contractor and need to haul other tools on the sides of the vertical plywood, no need to build this unit for a couple sheets of plywood.

      @@DIYHGP what pressure and what wheel walls. These should fit comfortable in between the bed liner and no marks will be left if you have a nice plastic bed liner in most standard size full pick up trucks.

      @@DIYHGP not suitable for the freeway ride home? How do you figure? Lay the sheet between the wheel wells, and then run a ratchet strap over the edge of the plywood from inside the bed, down to the safety chain hole on your trailer hitch. This idea would be cool for a midsize truck where they don't have 4' between the wheel wells, but for this full size F150, it's a waste of time.

  • @jdm1066
    @jdm1066 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If the bed isn't 8 feet long it's not a truck...
    It's a SUV.
    Stop calling your quad cab 4-6 foot bed SUV's Trucks.

    • @foofstarr4856
      @foofstarr4856 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      We can say that about anything. I have a semi truck and it will fit 5 of ur little 8 foot so called "truck". A truck is a truck just cuz it has a short bed doesn't make it an SUV by the definition of suv.
