Well done Mark - this year's was my second run too! I had a broken hub for the last 80km which wasn't fun but I did complete. I live in the north and it is, honestly, a bit of a logistical nightmare getting to and from the ride but the run itself is an experience I'd recommend any rider to do at least once.

Oof, what happened to your hub? Nightmare. I had a slow puncture on my rear tyre but it seemed to reseal at Gosbeck. Thankfully I took my electric pump! Congrats on finishing, I was struggling to stay awake this time around.

@@foodbymark I was on Mavic Allroad wheels which, I now know, don't use pawls in the hubs, but instead there are two opposing ratchet-action 'cogs', held in tension by a spring. Unfortunately, my spring failed mid-DD. It cost £35 in parts and £10 labour to fix but is not a roadside repair. Bloody awful experience - the hub just kept slipping and even a 2% hill was hike-a-bike.
I'm pleased you completed too, it is the worst sort of ride to be a DNF on, unless you have access to a support vehicle (as some did I noticed).

I saw them finish as i was headed to the pub after dropping my bike off! I don't think i know anyone in the club myself. I'll certainly be aiming to do it every year, it's a fun ride. It is just getting home that is a pain. I expect to be able to shave an hour back off of my time next year, and likely ride to Colchester and catch the train from there rather than get the Southwark cycles coach, unless Carina drives and picks me up.
