Fun fact about the flag of British Columbia: it's based on the coat of arms of BC, the original version of which had the setting sun on top of the Union Jack. Which was a problem, because it showed the sun setting on the British Empire.

Because, the swissflag is symmetrical on all sides, so it doesn't matter in which way you put the swiss flag. That doesn't work on rectangular flags.

There is no law that a ship must be able to reach its port of registation. Therefore, according to Wikipedia there were in 2020 still a total of 19 seagoing ships registered with 4 operators in Switzerland's only port of registation for seagoing vessels in Basel and sailing under Swiss flag. The number was drastically declining though, in 2016 still counting 49 vessels.

Mentioned that Iran's flag ratio os 4:7, whereas it is approximately 4:7. The ratio is a irrational number which is a side effect of the geometric construction of the flag.

Hey now... a British Columbian here, our flag may not be the best, but to have it as the "not so pretty" option... cmon man!!! Luckily I still love your stuff, and Canadians love to poke fun at ourselves, but you owe us a shout out! Hopefully we get a new flag soon with First Nation's art on it! Check out recent suggestions online!

I have to agree. Kinda hurt my ego, but we do enjoy bullying our fellow Canadians lol
About that first Nations art thing, I have to agree as well. With the recent discoveries and in general first Nations getting alot more attention, we need to move from our colonial past and be more traditional
Though personally I still want to keep the queen, being in the Commonwealth I feel like benefits us

Interesting.. Finland actually has same reasoning to its weird proportions as Denmark has. 4 on whites, 3 on blue from side, 5+10 whites lengthwise and another 3 on blue. So 4+4+3 = 11 and 5+10+3 = 18. Not sure why these exact numbers tho. Maybe they didn't want to copy and paste other scandic countries? Maybe the artist who suggested this flag just saw this as the "prettiest" or easiest to explain? Might be mix of planned and coincidence. At least i couldn't find any symbolism for these measures.
