    Watching two white men react to Formation was an out of body experience for me 😂 this video is so specific and authentic to Black culture I never really considered how non-black people would digest it until just now. Its cool that you guys are doing this series because its giving me another perspective on music and culture in general really. How you interpret the lyrics and the story being told will be really interesting to me moving forward

      Black Twitter and black TH-cam are two different places. Vlad is being torn into pieces (rightfully so) and here y’all actually pay two random white guys to react to the culture. Why do y’all push the culture on white people so much? What exactly was an out of body experience watching two white guys react to this? I don’t get excited about random white people reacting to our culture. I just don’t get it.

    I'm just going to point out that you all say R&B is not your thing. I get that. But this isn't typical R&B. Formation may be R&B/Hip Hop adjacent, but NOTHING else sounds like this. And I am glad that y'all could still appreciate this. Lemonade as a project spans genres, as does the new Cowboy Carter. But it makes me so happy that y'all are actually discovering who Beyonce is as an artist... and that is genre-less and experimental. You can't put her in a box. Especially in the projects since 2016.

    Tbh, i didn't expect you guys to get this song but I'm happy you guys were open minded about it. Formation is a very pivotal part of Beyonce's discography because it was when she started singing about being unapologetically black. SNL even did a skit about it called The Day Beyoncé turned black. When she performed this at the Superbowl with Bruno Mars and Coldplay, it caused so much outrage from white people that they were calling for Beyonce to be boycotted. It was such a caotic time and of cos Beyonce doubled down with more black power anthems. I love that woman 😂.

    Formation is definitely in my top 3 favorite Beyonce songs. This song Formation resonates differently with Black people, especially Black women. And that’s the thing with Bey, she pays really close attention to what’s happening in the world because I promise you, Black women NEEDED this song. Even Adele addressed it on the stage at the Grammy’s when she won AOTY and Beyonce didn’t. Very powerful song !!

  • @antoinettehardie97

    If I remember correctly police departments and others actually tried to boycott Beyonce after her performance of this song at the 2016 Super Bowl (since she dressed up as a black panther). Which subsequently she came out with Boycott Beyonce merch but I said this to say that this song really changed a lot for me perspective wise for Bey. As a lifelong fan since I was 6, it was so interesting seeing her in the lemonade era. She really became another state of artist and I’m excited for yall to see Coachella. I hope yall watch the entire thing on Netflix and not just cutdown/Water down TH-cam video performances

  • @nadirarahman3504
    @nadirarahman3504 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

    This is from the Genius lyrics "about me" section: “Formation” is a Black Power anthem, a fitting contribution to Black History Month and an important conversation piece in the Black Lives Matter movement. The song was released one day after what would have been Trayvon Martin’s 21st birthday and one day before what would have been Sandra Bland’s 29th birthday. Martin and Bland’s deaths are focal points of Black Lives Matter.
    New Orleans bounce musician Big Freedia, who appears on the interlude, noted the song and video showcase Bey “paying homage to her roots.” Bounce music originated in New Orleans and is a faster paced style of hip-hop music. The entire Lemonade album is paying homage to her life, her past, her ancestors - all of it, so there's definitely more than what meets the eye.

    So... I'm sure someone else has already made this comment, but react to the Lemonade visual album (make sure that each video is the right one and not some fan BS). Lemonade, followed by Homecoming (which is on Netflix) The Lion King: The Gift (on Disney +), Renaissance, and Cowboy Carter have all made me a huge Beyonce fan. She is actually as amazing as the Beyhive says she is and if you love music, you will come to respect, appreciate, and likely love her as an artist. There are other reaction videos on TH-cam with other Johnny Come lately(s) like me who also admit that they came to understand the fanfare around this woman... She has earned it.

    Thanks for sharing guys. As a man who is going on my own personal journey to open myself up to other genres of music outside my typical wheelhouse, I applaud you guys for your journey of discovery. Full disclosure, I haven't agreed with every comment you've made, nor should I, or anyone else necessarily - we don't have to agree on everything. But I love that you're being open and honest about what you're discovering. If you loved everything, you'd seem disingenuous and ass-kissy so I prefer the honesty.
    I'm a massive Bey fan and i don't love every track she's ever done (though certainly almost all).
    But i have to add that Lemonade is a journey in and of itself, and when you've had the chance to experience the visual album from front to back, you'll see just how worth it your journey has been. I don't expect that you'll love Renaissance as much as some others (could be wrong, though I did and the tour in Vegas was bonkers!).
    I do wish people would give you a bit more grace though... The genre is new to you, and I think it's unfair that people are judging you for "why you're doing this." To my fellow Beyhive family, we didn't "own" Beyonce, but we love her. She opened herself up to the whole world, and the world is free to enjoy her with us. Anyone who feels differently needs to re-evaluate THEIR place in this world, and figure out why they think they get to take ownership of her - she wouldn't agree with them. Beyonce sang "I am here..." We're all here! Make that mean something. At least these guys are putting themselves out here. Sure they're getting TH-cam dollars - we're all free to do the same if we choose. A big part of being a decent human is owning "I ain't sweating you... Why u sweating me?"
    Some of us are actually taking this trip with them and enjoying it. Live and let live until it affects you negatively - then by all means, clap! Carry on guys!

      What a lot of folks miss though is that Formation WAS for them too (them meaning non-Black folks)... It's a call to action for Black people - especially our Black women, and a call to put non-Blacks on notice (not all - just the jacked up ones who don't know how to be a decent human to highly melanated people). As is typical with Beyonce, she's usually got multiple agendas in her art. This is one of those. My favorite scene is with the kid dancing with intention in front of the cop lineup... It says "this is us standing, alone or together... Pay attention because we are!" It's blatant and unapologetically Black and I love it. But I also love that these guys are literally looking for the broad picture.
