we just made this in my organic lab! a slightly different procedure, but still going from acetanilide to p-nitroaniline. love to see the different procedures like this

why do we hace to add sulfuric acid to the solution of acetic ac and acetanilide??
add 1 gm 4 nitro acetanilide to 15 ml koh solution and warm, set set aside for 12 hrs collect p nitro aniline

Mix the product with conc. Sulfuric acid in a crucible. Quickly carbon snake will appear

Why not just nitrate aniline?
Nitric acid oxidizes NH2-group.
