Thx for getting straight to the point y'all did the explanation easy. I'm tired of other people talkn and talkn like if they were makn a Hollywood movie.. great job 👍👍😁
This is a fantastic video that you both made! Thank you so much I just purchased a camper and I'm clueless. And you're very good at explaining things. I hope you make other videos as well! Thank you again for sharing! ✨💛💚💜💙☺
Well, this was one of the most comprehensive videos I have watched regarding dumping your black and grey water tanks. I would look into a Dual Flush by Camco (no I don't work for them), or similar device to back flush the black water tank. I would also mention that a garden hose is not good for potable water, they make special hoses which do not leave the rubber taste which are usually white in color. I know things have changed in the past few years, but this is still an extremely thorough video.
Thank you for making this video was very helpful! I am new to the RV world and just purchased me an old RV and this video is gonna make my first time thoroughly cleaning the RV out that much easier.
We're moving up to a travel trailer from a popup and this is the video I needed to see to set my mind at ease as far as cleaning the sewage system out. And if this video was for a class, I hope you got an A. That's what I would have graded it!
Thanks, Charles! Yes I did get an A. I found that a lot of the stuff seems overwhelming at first, but taken in small pieces, it's all much easier to handle and not nearly as complicated as it may first seem. Glad this helped to ease your mind.
This is an excellent video! Thank you so much for making it. I just bought my first RV with a sewage system and you ansered all my questions in one go. Very helpful, great music, and great production keep up the great work.
Thank you for the vid and the music. We are waiting for the delivery of our first camper/trailer, a Clipper 17fq, and I'm trying to figure out how it all works. There are so many movies with exploding septic hoses, I'm trying not to star in one. Thanks!
excellent. and I worry about having to share the road with people who do not comprehend that someone as thorough and cleanly as this video portrays you to be would ever use the hose that went down the toilet for your white water fill LOL my God people seriously?
I just bought this RV I don't know how to drain that I was watching your video that looks simple how do you fill it up I got a 1981 GMC motorhome I don't know how to work the system yet
I hear Walmart usually doesnt mind but if I do decide to sleep in a motorhome during the week I do hope to get one small enough to fit in the wide parking space where I work and just leave it there during the week and take public transportation to get around when leaving the premises. I have been looking at a Four winds Majestic 23a thats around 25ft long and it looks like I can sleep comfortably in that unit. But hopefully Ill get a job that pays good and can get my own apartment soon.
great video thanks, I Just purchased a RV 1987 but it didn't come with the manual.,now i need to know how to fill the gas tank and can someone tell me how the generator works . thanks or send e any link
You should fill the fresh water tank with a food grade hose. Additionally, I would never use the same hose you put down the toilet to fill the fresh water tank whether you use sanitation wipes or not. eeww! Also, just putting the hose down the toilet doesn't always get the tank clean. There is a wand you can buy on Amazon for this purpose that gives you high powered spray to clean the walls of the tank, sensors, and floor of the tank of anything that is stuck in there. Oftentimes stuff will stick to the sensors making your electronic level meter show the tank is still full or half full. The wand also has a shutoff switch that you can control from the toilet. It's very inexpensive to purchase. I like the rest of the video. :)
+Finally Free 2 RV - I agree, I wouldn't ever use the toilet hose to fill the white water tank, either. In the video, I used a different hose, but I may not have made it clear enough that you need to use a separate hose to fill the water tank. Great tip about the wand, though. I wasn't aware of such a thing. Would you mind posting a link where you could buy one?
When you live in the RV. Where do you usually park to sleep? Im thinking about possibly buying an RV to sleep in during the work week since I live 40 miles away from where I work and gas prices are getting kind of pricey. So if it doesnt cost too much on the monthly loan I thought about purchasing one and camp out in the rv during the week and go home on weekends.
@Pete Ah: Yeah, the music was by our band, Champagne Sunday. We're still playing. I have some live videos of us on my channel, but we now have our own TH-cam channel with more current stuff on it.
I know you posted this 10n years ago but is therena chance you-know any business that would come out and do this for you? We're knew to the RV life and wanna be able to have some where to drain it before its too too late thanks any help appreciated
Yes, that's our song. The song is called "The Fall of Gabriel" from our album "North" (2008). The band is Champagne Sunday, and if you're interested, you can hear more from us at www.champagnesunday.com.
Did you really use the same hose that was down the toilet for your Fresh Water fill up? I just read the reviews below and you didn't. Whew! Okay, good. Get one of those Fresh water hoses at Home Depot or Lowes, or clear hose for the Fresh Water fill. Thanks for posting.
Thankyou so much, I have been so nervous about trying to clean the tanks not being sure exactly how. I have been watching a numerous amount of videos ad this one" ;) I think I GET"""" Thanks again...... Is it possible to clean at home without sewer connection? Or is that just a horrible question????? :0)p
Donna and Wade habz Yes, it is possible, kinda. There are services that you can call and they will bring a truck to your house, or your RV, and empty the tanks for you (for a fee). However, I would recommend driving your RV to a facility to empty them yourself. If your RV sits for too long without being driven, bad things can start to happen to it. For me, the catalytic converter would get clogged, causing it to overheat. Emptying your tanks anywhere but into a facility specifically designed for that would be a really gross mess that you won't want any part of, and I'm pretty sure it's also illegal.
When four of us were living in it, we emptied it about every week or week and a half. When it got down to just my wife and I, could go two to two and a half weeks (maybe three) of regular use before we had to empty. Hope that helps.
Hi thank's for your tips I all most look like a fool the camper did not have a adapter for the hose to the camper and hose to the sooaje I need to buy them B-)
I mean in terms of time between emptyings. 2 days? A week? Or perhaps, how many uses of the system, as a ballpark guess, before it needs to be changed? 10 visits? 20 visits?
Very good points. Also, there are directional vents that can be installed on the roof for the black water tank vent that are designed to draw air up and out of the tank if there is a breeze. This helps prevent backdrafts (when air goes down the vent tube and up and out of the toilet when you flush it-especially when the exhaust fan is on) which can be significantly unpleasant if the tank is "dirty." One other point- evaluate the black water tank additive you are using. Some (most) of the eco-friendly ones are virtually worthless. It's sad but true. I could never find one that worked anywhere close to the old tried and true blue. I guess formaldehyde is a formidable foe for preventing rot and stink, but not the best for Mother Nature. And, make sure and clean the black tank really well when you do dump it. Very important.
I do know if I get a small motorhome like around 23ft I can easily fit it into the wide parking space where I work and hopefully the landlord and parking attendants do not mind. My uncle who lives in WV worked 12 years in Manassas and his first 7-8 years he had to sleep in a 22ft Fleetwood Tioga motorhome in the parking lot at work and go home on weekends but at some point within the last few years he worked there they built a housing unit for him to sleep in during the week.
Wouldn't recommend it. They have RV Septic System treatment stuff specifically designed to keep the tank clean and less odor-ific. I've had no complaints using it. Throwing bleach down there seems unnecessary. After all, it's not like you're storing food down there or anything. Just poop.
Good video except you should not fill your white water tank with a garden hose because of the chemicals used to make them, They will also will make the water taste funny, especially when they are new. You need a hose especially made for potable water which you can buy from RV stores like Camping World
+Danny Martinez As often as it gets full. Depends on your usage, and how many people are using your toilet. When I was on tour with the band, we had four people living in the RV, using it on a fairly regular basis, and we had to dump it every week to week and a half. When just my wife and I were living in it, we only had to dump it every two to three weeks. A friend of ours lived in it for awhile by himself, and he could go probably a month to a month and a half without dumping. You'll be able to tell when it's full by looking down the chute. If the sewerage is getting close to the top, it's a good idea to dump it.
+Ann Berns It can stink, but the treatment that you use REALLY does a great job of keeping it under control. (In the video, you can see us adding the treatment solution after we've finished draining and rinsing the black water tank.) And it doesn't really take that much, surprisingly. As the tank gets nearer to its capacity, you'll notice the smell more and more, but mostly only when you flush. We've found that opening the bathroom vent* and/or window helps get rid of the smell after a flush, and we always keep some air freshener spray handy near the toilet. *Note: You should never have your ceiling vents open while driving.
+Ann Berns Also, the RV sewer line was there when we moved in, and wasn't exactly up to code, or what you would call "legal". The people that owned the property (we were renting) had owned it for a LONG time, and the guy installed it himself. It worked great for us, but I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself without going through the proper channels.
Phil Healey I’m sure that RV septic systems have come a long way since 1989 (the year our RV was made). But I really wouldn’t know. I only ever owned that one.
@@jaredfredeen8886 Hi, I'm being a bit tongue in cheek, with a lot of experience with the Thetford cassette system which is very good and even ok with the cassette removable inside an expedition truck. About how frequently does an RV septic system need to be emptied?
When it gets full (Obviously) or before you store it.
When it starts to smell like shit...
