The "Color Burst House" exemplifies an innovative architectural response to the clients' desire to enjoy the rain from every room. This unique residence features a bold, rectangular form softened by extended walls and frames that integrate the building with its landscape. The design incorporates three double-height open-to-sky courtyards, ensuring that the main rooms can open into these spaces, allowing the occupants to enjoy the rain, light, and breeze throughout the changing seasons from within the comfort of their rooms.
Architectural Elements:
Form and Landscape Integration:
The rectangular structure is softened at both ends by walls and frames extending into the landscape.
The car porch, topped with a terrace garden, and the transition from a tropical garden to a dry garden around the entry enhance the seamless integration with nature.
The entrance is through a modest, skylit landscape and a pavilion-like sit-out that serves as an outdoor living area.
Spatial Organization:
The house is placed perpendicular to the road, surrounded by a lush landscape, and comprises three horizontal bays.
Primary Bay: Includes the car porch, sit-out, living room, powder room, kitchen, and work area.
Secondary Bay: Houses the bedrooms and their toilets flanking the staircase and a hidden courtyard accessible from all bedrooms.
Central Bay: Features the dining room in the middle with an indoor patio above serving as the family room, and two large double-height courtyards.
Courtyards and Climate Control:
The courtyards, equipped with monsoon windows and horizontal strip ventilators, create a microclimate that keeps the house cool during the hottest months.
The courtyard between the living area and the first bedroom is lushly vegetated for privacy.
The courtyard connecting the kitchen, dining, study, and the second bedroom has minimal vegetation to facilitate movement and alfresco dining.
Accessibility and Openness:
Internal spaces flow seamlessly into each other, ensuring accessibility for all residents, including a wheelchair-bound young resident.
The design blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor, shaded and open, and built and unbuilt spaces.

The home bursts with energy from the vibrant use of orange, black, white, and grey on walls, furniture, wall art, metal fabrications, décor items, and soft furnishings.
