Mid Ohio is great for low aero cars/moderate aero cars, but I highly doubt it would make for good F1 racing. Too tight, only a couple good overtaking spots, really dangerous. Unfortunately, the boring Tilke-drome's are just better suited for hosting that kind of race.

First a zinger to F1. On the rev-limiter and the engine didn't explode or give in.. it can be done building fast but robust.
Then back again... hit the limiter, several mistakes, shortshifted and braked well early into turn 4 during that run. But still got fastest time.. seemingly it's not the strongest field if that's possible, cause you'd really be trailing in F1.. trailing bad

Even though this is a practice session, as I said, trailing bad if this was in F1. There are absolutely zero room for mistakes nowadays, especially in qualifying.
On another note, I do think that Alexander Rossi didn't get to unleash his full potential. But if you don't have the financial resources, start showing results quick and have the right team dynamic, then it's a really tough sport to remain in.
And I would also say that the IndyCar field seems much more competitive and spectacular, compared to F1

Perhaps that's not such a bad thing. If it makes the car more tricky to drive, you know encouraging over/understeer, then it makes for opportunities for overtaking..

Some tracks might be challenging and exhausting for the drivers, but is dead-boring for the spectators.
