  • Switching things up a bit and showing you how I built a bicycle repair stand out of a 2x4 and a 4x4. A pretty basic design and works quite well. This was my first time making one and I didn't have any plans to go by other than an idea in my head of how I wanted to do it. I was actually really happy with the results. It's a bit heavy and bulky so it's not ideal for transport but if it's going to just sit in one place this might be a good option for ya.
    I enjoyed making and editing this video and will probably do some more like it here and there. I do wish I would've had more time as I filmed and edited all of this video yesterday. Mainly wish I had more time to edit it but it turned out fine I guess.
    I'd like to hear from ya'll in the comments! Tell me what you think about my design, what you like, dislike, what you would do differently and if you like this kind of video. I enjoy building things so it was fun to merge the bike aspect with building for a video.
    Also I mention at the end how I have a small woodworking business called Lucky 7 Woodworks, llc. You can check out my work at lucky7woodwork... and I'm also on Instagram @lucky7woodworks. You can contact me from either if you'd like something made or want to purchase something I already have for sale.
    As always thanks for watching and if you liked this video at all please hit the like button and subscribe to the channel! Send it!

    Thanks for the idea! i use a plank as a leg, i measured all the wood but i made it a bit too low the front wheel is touching the floor lmao, im not the best at woodworking (im 15 btw) so the cuts are slightly not even ( i used a handsaw) but it still works fine as a wash and repair stand.

    I think in time the pieces of wood holding the bike will start to sag. The screw may not hold up well with lateral force from the weight of the bike. If it does, next time use a mortise and tenon joint. How is it holding up? Has it ever toppled over? Looks great. 👍

    I followed your basic idea, except instead of bracing under the seat, I set it up for just under the top of the frame. And notched a slight v, so the frame doesn't move. Not universal though, because of cable locations on bikes can be different. It works, I should have put more thought in to it. Thanks

    • @ridindirt
      @ridindirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I think that would work. Obviously the 4x4 is more stable. You could also put two 2x4s together to make a 4x4.
      Also now that I’ve been using mine for awhile I would suggest also using glue on the legs. Mine started to get a little wobbly.
      Good luck! 🤙🏻

    • @rkhoo7349
      @rkhoo7349 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ridindirt Little wobbly as the leg wants to spread under load? Does it wobble front-to-back or left-to-right? You have used 5 screws at the wedge, plus another 5 when mounting the leg to it. That is 10 screws on each side. If that's not enough, then it may need bracing. So where did you add glue and braces? Thx.

    What are your thoughts to making this without the 4x4 at an angle but rather straight up? I was thinking of making the 2x4 legs longer? Did you go at an angle for stability or strength or both?

    • @ridindirt
      @ridindirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s more of a weight distribution thing with the angle but try it out, why not haha. I the angle is the way to go doing the tripod but it’ll probably work with it straight. You can always change it if it sucks

    I'm heading into a similar project and like the way this functions. I suspect the wobble you mention in the comments could be resolved or at least softened with longer feet and/or sandbags or some weighted covers on each foot. I swear it would be so simple to hang some mounts from my garage wall if my family would keep their stuff out of the way. ;-D

    • @ridindirt
      @ridindirt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wobble is more from the legs to 4x4 connection. They because kinda loose so I took a couple pieces of 2x4 to stabilize it. I still use this stand and have thought about doing an update video about it and how I improved it.

      I decided to go with one that just has 2 rods sticking out then you set the bike on it using top frame of the bike which makes it more stable when u pedal it.
