6:05 Spawn Conditions for a Trial are: You are at least 7 encounters into the current run You are at least 2 encounters into the current biome You have a boon from 2 different gods You have not had a trial encounter within the past 15 rooms You are offered two exits (Of which only one can be a trial) When in Tartarus, the biome depth condition is not required. Depending on the biome you are in, the game has a different ratio of "Meta" rewards to "Run" rewards. In Erebus, this is 0.4. This means that roughly 40% of the rewards selected in Erebus will be from the "MetaProgress" table, which includes things like ash, psyche, and nectar. The other 60% of rewards pull from "RunProgress" table, which has boons, hammers, health, mana, Trials etc. Natural selection only increases the chance that you get a trial IF the reward is selected from "RunProgress", and a trial is allowed to spawn (criteria listed above). This means Natural Selection increases Trial appearances when eligible based on the chance of a RunProgress reward: Erebus: 60% of the time Oceanus: 60% of the time Fields: 100% of the time (All door rewards in Fields must be RunProgress) Tartarus: Tartarus handles Trials through room selection rather than encounter type selection, so Trials are uneffected by Natural Selection Ephyra: 100% of the time (All door rewards in Ephyra must be RunProgress; subrooms pull from a different reward set, neither Meta nor Run) Thessaly: 70% of the time Olympus: 80% of the time
perhaps this proposed change will make Natural Selection worse, but it will also make it more interesting. to play off the implied "survival of the fittest" element in the title, Natural Selection should also provide a greatly increased chance for sacrifice trade boons, so instead of your increased boon selection leading you to quickly just fill your inventory with a bunch of largely useless utility boons you can instead focus on custom tailoring your perfect build of all heroic core boons probably worse overall, but definitely more interesting
The fix for natural selection should be getting a fourth boon to pick from. It didn’t seem like this run got a noticeably higher number of boons than a normal run and you got this garbage duo boon as early as you could.
Total rework: Poseidon-Demeter duo should make applying freeze to wet (slip-affected) foes make them brittle, so that hitting them again shatters them (killing minor enemies outright, or dealing a chunk of damage to bosses/minibosses/maybe elites)
Honestly I agree with the idea of changing natural selection. It's worse than Exclusive Access and that boon was also kinda weird. A lot of H1 duos were kinda underwhelming passives that didn't really impact gameplay, and I like H2 duos more because of that. Kinda surprised they didn't do some sorta slip synergy or something. Poseidon's always felt like the most awkward god to me in H2 since they revamped Hestia. He has good core boons, but there's a lot of awkward stuff in his pool. Also I think I recall either Dan in a previous video or myself getting money as a room reward in Tartarus with this boon before this video but I can't remember
Honestly, I largely dislike Boons that affect rewards like this. Golden Rule is FINE, I guess because it gives more power, but it just feels like something like Natural Selection is compensating for things that should be in the game, itself. I personally think that this sort of thing should be reserved for places like the Arcana, maybe for the Reversed Arcana if it ever becomes a thing. I think a good replacement effect for Natural Selection would be something maybe like Mel gets a damage boost for each foes she kills in an encounter or that Freeze lasts much longer and each Frozen foe gives her a boost in damage.
I always thought it was weird that Natural selection choose to deny you max health& magic instead of white ash and pysche, which are less desirable but pretty common, why would i get a duo that makes me get more of inferior items?? The name doesn't match what it does either.
Nat Sel rework: Max Health, Magick, and money can't appear on major reward doors. Minor reward doors are replaced with Max Health, Armor, rando poms, and Max Magic. Boons have an increased chance to be Epic and cannot be common
Exactly what I'm thinking too. It sure looks like Natural Selection doesn't necessarily mean more boons, but instead more ashes, psyche and bones, which aside from earily game are always annoying to get.

There’s already a Hera boon that makes trades more likely, cool idea though
@@RollMeAFat1That boon doesnt exist anymore. It was patched out and replaced with a one time use item you can pick up in the well forc pretty cheap
27:18 Mel answered to Dan lmao
Why not go for Hera's Legendary? Thats 4 infusion boons at once no?
@@chanlekho no?
@@colinne2224yes?
@@azaily9308 maybe?

oh this is where "no F10s for Dan" comes from LMFAOOOOO
extreme measures oceanus: smooth jazz.
If it shows up on the left, it is considered a boon. Therefore, Selene stacking is huge for this idea
Path of Stars also synergies with Double Up. You know what, that’s actually not a bad idea.
One time i got so many boons that i discovered that Hades 2 have a limit to show how many boons do you have (the first column +4 = 5 columns)
It goes to a second page. I have had that as well but they are listed in a second tab.

Just a humble opinion...Poseidon's boons are not awkward...he offers useful options, some are more build-dependent, while others fit any situation.
Current best “most boons” run is 41. That does include some number of Hex boons, but I got a late Natural selection and skipped the Athena boon.
17:10 - The trove reward didn't count down when he was off-screen?

I really think natural selection should exclude basic resources, rather than in-run stat boosts
I hope we get something new/better for this duo, otherwise poseidon and demeter will just be destined to have bad/weird duo boons forever
I loved big boon runs in H1, glad that they're back in the sequel!
Gotta keep track of what boons you get.
What if it made boons slightly more likely and then gave you a boost based on the number of boons you had?
What about 2% dmg per boons for NS fix?
The game is like take the damn hammer
Where does snea snar come from?

Natural selection fix could make heroics naturally appear? Maybe?
Also why is splash count so bad. 10 damage per level? What the hell is that
Ma i really suck at using torches in this game

Snee Snar.....
My proposed fix: no more ash, psyche, or bones either. It's not fun to get those

You can get a non-trial, non-boss boon on an exit in Tartarus. It guarantees it will be a fountain room.
