  • Pioneering Engage with China Scholars have been given a life-changing opportunity to study in Changzhou, China, for two years to do their A-levels at an international boarding school. Discover how their lives have been dramatically enriched through this experience living and studying alongside their Chinese peer group, developing skills in sports, music, debating and the mandarin language, as well as embracing the Chinese culture and enjoying cultural visits to famous places like Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou.
This scholarship is the brainchild of Engage with China and Wycombe Abbey Schools in China and was established in the summer 2023. The vision is to build a cultural and educational bridge between China and the UK and to develop greater mutual understanding and opportunities. The current cohort consists of 10 students. In the Autumn 2024, another 30 scholars will move to Wycombe Abbey Schools in China as the scholarship programme expands.

I've been watching western travellers visiting China and was very surprised how bilingual the signs were. That is very inviting. Personally, I find written Chinese intimidating to look at! So I was very impressed to see the foreign students using it already.

Western culture makes with Chinese heritage and I'm so happy to see those young people have the opportunity to study in China, this will
give them a great learning curve to bring the best of both worlds. We need more young people like them and more important to share their experience in China or Chinese students can go to UK for
studies. More important, they can share their kindness and they can contribute peace and stability in the future. They are our future.

Firstly, British teenagers study and discuss Britain's colonial past extensively, including being able to freely debate its merits and the wrongs committed by British colonialists. Secondly, the ransack of the Summer Palace was in response to the cold blooded murder of European prisoners of war. Perhaps that later fact is not included in your history curriculum.

@@andrewsmith3613 Prisoner of war? Is that a joke? To the Chinese they are the aggressors, invaders who were trying to intoxicate them with opium. Distorting the fact does not justify your plundering of another sovereign state. Wake up.

@@andrewsmith3613 Ask yourself - why and what were the Europeans doing in China? They were colonialists, intruders, uninvited and were in a foreign country. In any case, avenging the deaths of some European prisoners did not justify the scale of destruction and looting on what was and is regarded as magnificent cultural heritage.
