  • The standard anatomical position (SAP) is the reference point used when describing the location of sites or structures in the body. See how the anatomical figure, in the anatomical position, gets divided by imaginary body planes, giving rise to directional terms such as anterior/posterior, inferior/superior, and medial/lateral which make it easy to locate body structures and sites. The SAP and body planes are described in rhyme; keywords are spelled out to reinforce science vocabulary.

      The figure is actually gender-neutral, it doesn't show the male or female anatomy. The lyrics state "The Human Body" - not the male body or the female body.
