Gel isn’t for everyone, so thanks for showing us options :-) I recently came across the best hack ever… I really wish I could remember who is channel I saw it on. Anyway, I use a hybrid system of regular polish and gel products. I do not want any gel products touching my nail bed or my natural nail, or skin. So I glue on full gel tips with regular nail glue. then I put a gel topcoat on it to strengthen the nail. this way I can use regular polish and change it every day if I want to. I put a regular polish on top of that… A really shiny one… And then I Chrome away! Only takes one coat of powder and I use my fingertip to apply it. then, get ready for this: I apply clear Elmers school glue to the Chrome. Let it dry, and then apply a fast dry shiny topcoat on top of that. Then I apply another coat of the shiny quick dry topcoat all the way around the edges. That’s it! Best and shiniest chrome results I’ve ever had! :-)
I bought a cheap amazon-purchase chrome powder set and I can't even remember which one. I found an Orly Sticky Base Coat I've had for a while ... well before dipping was a thing. I applied that sticky base and let it dry. Then applied the chrome with both the applicator (cheap eyeshadow sponges, but I recommend them for getting the powder down to test for dryness as well as for getting full coverage before switching to your finger) and then switched to my finger as well ... and had just about the same result you did. I didn't realize I could/should do a second coat, so that's what I believe will be the difference between a "pretty good" result and the true chrome I was looking for. Not to knock Sparkle & Co. but I'm on a budget and can't really afford even a few more dollars if I'm going to keep up with my art as well as my woodworking and nails (and still pay my bills).
Hi April, Thanks for the useful info. What's the orly product you mentioned? I'm only able to find a rubberised base coat and not sticky base coat. More info would be appreciated. ❤
Yay! As a Natural nail girly who prefers regular nail polish myself, I'm always trying to find ways to do "what's in" at the salon at home, no one wants to do regular polish manicures for anything now a days. But it's okay, I have more fun and save money by doing my own at home. So, I bought a chrome polish, but using it on it's own does not give the same effect? Idk... I'll have to experiment now! But regardless, this is a great video, and could end up being my next nail-art-treat-myself by Sparkle & Co! Because I want to give myself chrome nails so bad!!! :) Thank you!
I am allergic for all nail products that needs to cure under a lamp🥺 And it's SO hard to find these videos that do not use gel, so I am greatfull for this 💅🏻🙏
Thank you so much for this video. I have been wanting to do chrome without needing a UV light for gel. I ordered S&C and did my first chrome set today! Nails look beautiful! Can't wait to try the different colors!
I used a slightly different method for holographic powder and no gel application. I Dip my nails. I paint my nails. I use a top coat and wait till almost dry. I gently rub the powder on the nails till I get the look I like. I use a thin coat of Clear water based glue...(Elmer's). Allow to dry then float a top coat. Done. Mine came out fantastic! Try it!
Hey Marla, thanks for doing the science and bringing alternatives to the masses! Those colors were very pretty and I love that ring that was on your middle finger during application.
Great video! Glad that there is an option for those with gel allergy 🎉. Impatient me will be sticking with gel unless I develop an allergy. Very pretty, perfect Winter wonderland vibe for here today, while it snows 🥶. 🥰😍💖😘
I have the sticky base coat from Maniology, supposedly you can chrome with that as well. Still gotta try it to see. But I'm hopeful. I hate that I can't play with gels...although it's a blessing to my wallet!
Awesome tutorial I have these products and I didn’t know that you should chrome more than once. It makes a big difference. I will definitely be trying this again. For longevity I think I will also experiment with a dip top coat wish me luck. Thank you so much for doing this video.
Thankfully I do not have a gel allergy.I love chrome. As usual great video Marla.love the Blue chromed.I actually like the Amazon chromed finger better then the sparkle and co.one.
Know I’m a bit late to this video, sorry. I recently have a gel allergy but had purchased a whole bunch of chrome powders. Was hoping to salvage some of the products I have purchased to use on gel nails. Thank you. Hoping I can purchase this in the UK.
I wouldn’t only bc I feel like the activator might disturb the chrome. You could apply the top pure again (as. Top coat) and then activate and apply the dip top!
Hi, thanks for the video!! I am allergic to gel and want to try this sprkle&co top. I have 2 questions please :) 1. Before using Sparkle & Top, did you dip as usual? activator twice and buff? Do I also need to apply a normal Dip top before and after the Sparkle&co top? 2. How long did the Sparkle & Co top last without UV? (I am sorry for my english, hope I was anderstood)
This is a great alternative, but man it takes a while to do... I hate waiting for stuff to dry like that 😅 buttttt that is a personal thing. Awesome video! 😍
Pretty! The S & Co. chrome (at least on my monitor) seemed to change the color a bit differently than the Amazon chrome...am I correct? Both are lovely & I need to try.
I'm glad I clicked on this, and I can use gel. I love learning all the tips and tricks from the Naigician. Btw, I think Chelsea used a Maniology liquid. I think it was her. Not sure. Lol.
Yep she did! I haven’t tried that method yet! I have the products but my damn bottles are hell bent on staying shut lol if/when I get them open, I’ll give it a go!
I see a little difference in the chrome powder colors, S&C is a little lavender, Amazon is a little teal. Regardless, love the outcome. Also, Crazy Girl Dips has a sticky base called "Stuck" that I've used successfully for chroming over regular nail polish (so far that's all I've tested).
I can see how folks wouldn't be able to tell between them except for the middle one. Couldn't tell you what base/procedure you used, but the color is different. The index, ring, and pinky look exactly the same.
Hi, I have chromed over regular polish. After I get the chrome look I want, I use a clear water base glue(Elmer's) over the chrome. Allow to dry then float a reg. top coat over. It works! - Joy Forgot to mention that the reg. polish should be slightly tacky for the powder to stick.
Is it possible to do chrome nails with just a normal top coat ? don't have the machine to cure gel nails nor is sparkle and co top pure available in my country Any alternatives?
I was checking out the product and it says it's used over dip or nail tips..does that mean you can't just use it on your own nails over a regular or gel polish.. bc I don't use tips or dip powder
Thank you so much for this video. I have had nothing but massive failures with chrome. For whatever reason, I cannot get it to stick to the gel topcoat. I applied the no wipe gel topcoat curate for 10 to 15 seconds, and then attempt to apply to chrome, but all it does is roll around on top of it. What am I doing wrong?😢
Hmm.. are you applying pressure? You really have to work it into the gel top coat. I prefer to use my finger bc I can really get into all the crevices lol
@@MarlaKris I apply light to medium pressure (afraid of messing up the gel-not completely cured). I use either IGel topcoat or Modelones topcoat. My lamp is 120 w. I’ll have to try using more pressure hoping it won’t mess up the partially cured gel
Awesome video, Marla! I love that you did the comparison with mixing the products/brands, and also comparing to gel as well. Would it be safe to assume you have a scientific mind, LOL?

Hi April,
Thanks for the useful info. What's the orly product you mentioned? I'm only able to find a rubberised base coat and not sticky base coat. More info would be appreciated.

Was the Orly sticky base coat the same as their rubberized sticky base coat?😊 Thanks

I feel ya. The chrome polishes never look as good! But this is a total game changer! If you grab these and try it, please report back!! 🩷
Great alternative for those who suffer from a get allergy. Thankfully I don't so I will continue with the gel method. Thanks for the great video!

Hey Marla, thanks for doing the science and bringing alternatives to the masses! Those colors were very pretty and I love that ring that was on your middle finger during application.
It’s my pleasure! And thank you! I found the ring on Etsy! ☺️
Oh these are beautiful. You can't tell which is which. Love the blue. TFS!

These nails are to die for. Obsessed with chrome 👀 I need to ask our team to bring some in.
Yeah you do!! And then send them all to meeeee 🤣
Excellent video 😊 Thank you for sharing this!😍

Yeah I heard that too but haven’t tried it yet! Either way, you definitely have options!! 🙌🏻
Thank you. Bought a sh!t ton of chromes last year, then developed a gel allergy. They've been sitting...waiting... gonna have to try this!
You so got this now, girl!! 🙌🏻
Beautiful job, as always, Marla! Thank you for taking the time to show us all different versions! ❤️

Boy Howdy was this helpful! Now I can do chrome. I had no idea this existed until.your video. 😮
I’m so glad you can chrome now!! 🙌🏻
Thank you so much! I sure hope my next attempt is successful! And ty for the tip about the Amazon chrome!

You can totally use the dip top! After your final coat of top pure dried.. activate. Then dip top like usual! 💞
This was super cool. I have those products and didn’t know how to use it. Thank you ❤❤

been my mental heath counselor and doesn’t cost me as much😂😂😂. Loved this set…the blue is kind of magical looking♥️
🤣😂
Beautiful nails! Gel chrome seems to be a lot less effort and waiting than the first method. This is a nice workaround if you have a gel allergy
I 100% agree! I personally prefer the gel method BUT at least there’s an alternative for those that can’t use gel products! ❤️
Holy s*it that’s beautiful! ❤
Ahhhhhh! 😆 Thank you!!! 🫶🏻❤️

Can’t hurt to try! Maybe you’ll like this method better! ❤️
Beautiful set and very informative
Thank you bunches, lovebug! ❤️
Got my amazon chromes last week. I gel no wipe top coat 10 second cure, chrome... works....
Perfect!! 🙌🏻
beautiful marla
Thank you so much! ❤️
I love this! Thank you! I'd love to see a tutorial for aurora nails without gel if you're able to
Oooh that’s a great idea!
Does anyone know whether or not these liquids are odorless? After finally conquering dip flu I’m a bit concerned.
After the second coat of chroming, could you just cover with your favorite dip top.coat and be done?
I wouldn’t only bc I feel like the activator might disturb the chrome. You could apply the top pure again (as. Top coat) and then activate and apply the dip top!
Thank you!

Hi love! Yes, dip as usual through filing. Then wash hands. I can’t speak to the longevity - it depends on your lifestyle 🩷
@@MarlaKris thanks!!!
I am gonna try it today 😃😃
This is a great alternative, but man it takes a while to do... I hate waiting for stuff to dry like that 😅 buttttt that is a personal thing. Awesome video! 😍
That’s why I prefer gel BUT I know some people just can’t use it!
Pretty! The S & Co. chrome (at least on my monitor) seemed to change the color a bit differently than the Amazon chrome...am I correct? Both are lovely & I need to try.
It’s such a subtle difference and it also depends on the lighting!

Just got some and so excited to try it!
Question:
Did you have a top coat on your dip nails prior to this tutorial?
Nope! Complete your steps through filing/buffing. Then stop and begin your chrome application 💙
That’s awesome! The more options the better!
When you use the adrada gel dip topcoat do you do two coats? I did a manicure Thursday and have noticed some peeling
That can happen sometimes. I find it helpful to apply either a gel base or a gel primer under top coat if you’re experiencing peeling ❤️
I can’t see where you get the base and top coat in your video, do you have a link?
This is a great mani thank you Marla 😊 I don't have playful but I have ice lol
Ooh that’ll work! 🙌🏻
Thanks but I’ll continue with the gel method. Just as pretty and faster.
I’m with you, girl! 💞
This is for those who have an allergy to gel...
Hi! I can only do regular polish. I’m allergic to everything else. Would this work regular polish!
Yes!! It definitely works over regular polish!
🤣😅😂 I have ACCIDENTALLY put matte top coat on more than once myself.
I can see how folks wouldn't be able to tell between them except for the middle one. Couldn't tell you what base/procedure you used, but the color is different. The index, ring, and pinky look exactly the same.
Right?! Mind blowing!
Marla, have you ever tried chroming on top of regular polish, or regular polish top coat?
I have.. didn’t have much success at all sadly.

As soon as I find an alternative I’ll let you know!!
Is it just me, or are there slight differences in color between all 4 nails? Thanks for the education! Love it!
Totally depends on the lighting too. There are minor differences but it’s so slight!
I was checking out the product and it says it's used over dip or nail tips..does that mean you can't just use it on your own nails over a regular or gel polish.. bc I don't use tips or dip powder

So the chrome doesn’t work well with dip liquids but the liquid I used is 100% non-gel
Thanks for the answer, i will take a look at the video again
Did you find that the pure coat does not feel completely smooth and is not as shiny. My gel looks much different
It’s definitely not as glossy as gel, but it’s a decent gel alternative!
I wonder if you could use a blow dryer to get it to dry faster...I couldn't possibly wait 5 minutes each time and not mess it up lol
Lol I hear that! Probably would work!
