  • Friends, the Book of Jonah is one of the shortest books of the Bible, yet it’s packed with profound truths about hearing and obeying the voice of God. On today’s episode of “The Word on Fire Show,” Brandon Vogt and I discuss this powerful little book.
A listener asks, why did Jesus show up when he did and not at a different point in time? What would the world look like had he showed up later, or not at all?

Thank you, Bishop, for being a “father” to us. Woke in great pain due to cancer treatment today, and after doing the rosary with you and this interview, I’m back on track. I was so tearful and having a pity party until I could hear Mary’s quiet prompting to offer my pain as a sacrifice for 2 loved ones healing. Now I’m at peace.
We need each other so much! Living a very isolated life is hard, but these talks by you and several others are what keep us tightly attached to the family of God. They are a lifeline for us.
I will pray for you and your diocese daily, my brother. Take care.
    Mary Ellen

Jonah preached repentance? I would argue with that. According to the story he didn't say to the Ninevites "Repent or else". He merely stated "In 40 days, you're toast"
The idea that repentance would turn away God's anger? That didn't come from Jonah. It came from the King of Nineveh: "Who knows? God may again repent and turn from his blazing wrath."
The gentile king was not invoking a promise made by the prophet. Rather, he invoked the hope that the God of Heaven wants life rather than death, that He takes "no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked should turn from their ways".

God speaks through His Word. The catholic church speaks through it's own doctrines. The catholic church does not hear God.

The Word spoke through His ministers and disciples, the Apostles, even for the New Testament this is so. So it still is. Christ founded His Church, the Kingdom of God in human souls. The Scriptures speak the Truth, and points to the Kingdom of God.

    • @francissweeney7318
      @francissweeney7318 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

No. God speaks through His Word. You did not even mention prophets. You are quoting some misguided doctrine of men.

@@francissweeney7318 Not so, the Lord said the Gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church. And so if the Reformers were right it would be that Christ's words would be in vain for 1500 years and the Apostles essentially failed in preaching the Gospel and allowed it to be warped almost immediately.
And Christ in His High Priestly Prayer prayed that we in Him be One in the Truth and in Love. The fragmentation after the cries out against it as a novelty, as does its contraindication against Our Blessed Lord's Own words in the Sacred Scripture.
Who are these strange men that anyone should heed them, and where is their coming in the Word of God? Where are the signs and wonders of them if they are prophets? Why did Christian slaying Christian and the Enlightenment come as the fruit of their words if they are from God? Why have so many following their ways been false prophets who speak in folly and reap division and swift corruption of the Gospel in 10000 ways?
If these are the fruits, why ought I heed them as not the ones who speak a different Gospel?

The history of the catholic church eliminates it as the church Jesus started. The obscene wealth of the catholic church is an offence to Jesus.

@@francissweeney7318 I should mention I mentioned the Enlightenment due to its deistic, and materialistic, atheistic influences on modern society.

Children's stories. All day long you tell children's stories. Sweet sounding; high sounding stories of sensational rhetorical flavor. Totally untethered to any known or knowable reality. Everything you speak is made up. Ridiculous. Childish fables. How you can keep a straight face is remarkable.

You must have real heartburn with Aesop, then.
What do you propose to teach children, then, if not high-sounding stories? 'Life is miserable then you die'? 'There is no reason to turn from evil and do good'? 'When someone points out your self-destructive behavior, ignore them'?
