      @@emrickruest Generally, you'd be better off buying a thin road/gym shoe like the Primus Lite Knit th-cam.com/video/ydf1R2Z2KAY/w-d-xo.html and another for trails, like the Primus Trail Knit FG, th-cam.com/video/W4wikuqPHZ0/w-d-xo.html because they'll each last longer and perform better being used on their intended terrain, but if you just want one shoe, then the Trail Knit does have some really good versatility for all-terrain and all-season use.

    I get the same rubbing on my ankle bone from the strap even if I dont tighten it up. I use a plaster (band aid) to stop that abrasive rubbing. Not great but it works.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nice, that's a good idea! One thing I've used with other shoes is an old sock with the bottom cut off. This pads your ankle without having to add a second layer of socks underfoot.

    Got these a couple of months ago as my main jogging shoes for mixed terrain (roads, grass, gravel, forest, dirt etc.) and so far, they've been doing a pretty good job. (I've only been on like 4 runs with them, so this isn't an extensive long-term impression.)
    Once, after about 10 kilometers of running, my left pinky toe got a bit red from too much friction, but I have no idea if that was the shoe's or the sock's fault.
    Wrapped a piece of tissue around it and continued without any problems.
    Visually and haptically, I'm not a fan of these types of laces either. The fact that the lace varies in thickness between pretty thin and very thin gives it a very flimsy and cheap feeling.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Chris, glad you're liking them so far! For pinky toe rubbing it could certainly be just your toes needing to build up a little callus, but you can also try toe socks like merino wool Injiji's (all I wear anymore) th-cam.com/video/_e6BC2vfl4w/w-d-xo.html, which improve breathability and reduce slipping (hence, friction). Also, the FG sole isn't ideal for roads, being medium flexible, and the Primus Lite Knit at 4mm would work a lot better if you're having problems on pavement. As for the drawstring laces, you could swap them out with a regular pair.

      @@AndrewFolts Thanks for replying and sorry for replying back so much later myself, I totally forgot to come back here.
      Despite having switched my entire footwear to barefoot shoes, I try to keep calluses to a minimum for, uh, esthetic reasons, I guess. Probably not the smartest thing to do but I can't help myself in that regard.
      The Trail Knit's sole might not be ideal for roads but so far it's the best all-terrain sole I've found since I never run *only* on streets or *only* in the forest. These shoes are pretty good at dealing with any surface I come across in my area. Of course, that also means they rarely are the perfect choice for any one terrain, but I appreciate the jack of all trades approach. (I like to compare it to Mario in the Mario Kart series; an all-around balanced driver with decent acceleration and decent max. speed who doesn't excel in either of those areas compared to the really light and really heavy characters.)
      Also, I think if I actually splurged on the Primus Lite Knits, I wouldn't wanna wear them for jogging and instead use them as everyday sneakers 😅
      Putting in different laces is actually genius and I don't know why I didn't think of that before.

      @@yashawal Yea, that's a tough one. Probably the Softstar Primal RunAmoc with the the medium 5mm Vibram sole would be the best option. That tread can handle all the conditions you mentioned and the leather will stand up to mud. How do these compare to the VFF v-alpha? I love the idea of running in the VFF but if i am only buying 1 I feel like the vivos might be more practical?

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Vivo's are more versatile for all-season/cold weather and have much greater water-resistance, while the V-Alpha's are the gold standard of flexibility, ground feel, and breathability, while still being very durable, because of the Vibram rubber, but have zero water or cold resistance.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No, but I desperately need to get one, ha. It's tough because in order to test them I have to wear them a lot and I can't really run a giveaway with used/dirty shoes. Also, people keep asking me comparison questions (this model vs that) for size, width, feel, etc, so it's useful to have a library I can continually test. For out of season or discontinued styles without much wear I'll give those away. And anything that didn't fit, of course.

    I'm currently testing 3 different Vivos with FG sole. The Primus Trail III All Weather FG, the Trail II FG (with Mesh-Upper) and the Trail Knit FG.
    I really love the concept of the Trail Knit, but annoyingly my little toe is squashed on every step at the bending point of the rim and upper material.
    Don't have this issue with the other 2 FGs in the same size.
    Maybe they need more miles to break in and soften? Am I the only one?

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah bummer, I noticed that when first putting them on, but then it went away while I was running/hiking. My pinky toe's kind of squashed to begin with from wearing soccer cleats, so it's a bit higher than it should be, which is probably true for a lot of people. You can stuff a sock gently into the front when you're not wearing it to expand the height a bit.

      @@emrickruest I returned the Knit due to the toe squashing issue which I couldn't bear any longer. I also returned the All Weather because of the annoying popping sound the upper material makes and after a short period a slight tear appeared at the bending point of the outer firm material above the stitches.

    • @AndrewFolts
      @AndrewFolts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea, I didn't like the mesh Trail FG as much as this one, since it felt a bit narrow and somewhat more stiff. There are others too, but in a lot of cases it wasn't that the shoe was bad, just that it didn't fit my day to day needs or specs. The Farmer by Realfoot, for example, is great but far too wide for my skinny feet.
