I have suggested this song so many times that at this point I'm shocked someone is reacting to it. Paul Rodgers and that scathing vocal, Andy Fraser walking that bass, Simon Kirke keeping time, and, of course, that blistering guitar from Paul Kossoff equals spontaneous combustion. Unforgettable.
So right!
To be fair they probably have to go through thousands of suggestions. But this one is new for me too. I like it.
Yeah it’s about time… and I find it strange that no one has ever reacted to Cactus yet…
Right! Or Trapeze (one of the best 3 man bands in rock history)
It melted my Bose Headphones on Free: Live!
'60s and '70s music....there was a LOT going on socially but we all knew we were more alike than our differences. Music-wise they all fed off each other. The riffs carried the feelings. The feelings crossed from group to group.
It was a great time.
The bass player was Andy Fraser (He wrote "All Right Now") He was 17 at the time. ☮💚🎶
Kossoff had a guitar tone that was unmatched. A tone soaked with emotion.
Paul Rogers is the lead singer of Free, and then became lead singer of Bad Company. He still sings as well today as he did back then. ❤
Free sorta became Bad Co.
Actually Bad Company only had 2 former members of Fee; Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke.
Mick Ralphs came from Mott the Hoople and Boz Burrell from King Crimson.
@@roboct6 I always forget the KC connection.
It took them some time to find a bassist and they didn't like King Crimson as a band so they were surprised when they heard Boz and grabbed him up right away.@@roboct6
Yes he does!
Great band, Paul Rogers terrific singer, and Paul Kossoff was a great guitarist, sadly died aged 25
I saw Paul Kossoff live 2 weeks before he died in a bar in Higanum CT, he did not look well BUT his guitar work was as sharp as ever, doing over 2 hours of his stuff and some Free songs, he killed it that night. We were not very shocked he had passed, knowing he had substance abuse issues. Great musician who self destructed.
I saw Free three times, my most favourite band ever. I just loved your reaction and you loving Free too. Paul Kossoff's guitar playing is sublime with his uniquely beautiful vibrato, Paul Rodgers bluesy vocals, Simon Kirke laying down the beat and Andy Fraser's lead bass solo, it really doesn't get any better. Thank you!
They are my favourite band. I was only a little girl when I saw them on Top of the Pops but I knew instantly that they had what so many bands longed for. I loved them. How amazing to have seen them 3 times!!
That bass solo is beyond awesome- gives me chills every time.
Finally, somebody reacts to a Free song besides "All Right Now". They have a deep soulfull funky catalogue
I'm a mover ❤
The Stealer
Fire and Water
Paul Rodgers is legit my all time favorite vocalist. So soulful!
I'm 63, I Love the channel! Like more than I can say!
-#yaay-- !-
62 here.
77 and i'm rockin' with J'nAmber
Same here, and I'll be joining you in just a couple of weeks.
62 here, love this channel, watch it daily and I'm a school teacher like J n' Amber. 6th grade science.
I'm 68 years old and this reaction has just made me so emotional, I remember when I first heard this record, 👍
67 here. I feel ya!!!😍
This is the Song where Mr. Big took their name. That bass player here was a major influence on the the Mr. Big bass player; Billy Sheehan. So much so, that one of the later Mr. Big albums has them playing this song. Mr. Bg ig played by Mr. Big.
Guitar work is by Paul Kossoff. Most underrated ever!
No, he's a pretty uninteresting player. The real star of the band, besides Rodgers of course, is Andy Fraser. He was one of the true pioneers on bass and inspired so many future legends on the instrument: Steve Harris, Billy Sheehan and Glenn Hughes, to name but a few.
@@erikthompson619Kossoff isn’t uninteresting at all. Has possibly the best vibrato in popular music history and some
of the best melodic solos ever, and one heck of a tone out of that Les Paul.
The late great Paul Kossof was genius lead guitarist.
Great reaction to a great band doing a great song. As others have said, Paul Rodgers is one of the greatest voices in the history of rock: starring with Free, going into Bad Company and for a time replacing Freddy Mercury for a tour or two with Queen (which strangely worked in a way).
I highly recommend doing more reactions from him and especially Free. Try out one of my favorite songs, the first I ever heard by Free:
“Fire and Water”. While it has some water in it, it’s mostly fire!
don't forget the group The Firm
The most underrated band in history..!! Paul kossoff was just beyond words, his vibrato and just sheer emotion in his playing are unmatched to this day..!! The whole band in their prime were untouchable 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Andy Fraser on bass , Paul Kossoff on guitar, Simon Kirke on drums and Paul Rogers on vocals Simon was a huge drum influence on me as a young drummer. Paul Roger one of my favorite singers. *** the band MR BIG dose a great version of this song **.
Mr. Big got their name from this song. When Billy started the band he wanted it to have a FREE kind of sound. Eric Martin sings a lot like Paul Rogers.
Thank you , I remember hearing that about their band name. I use to see Eric play with his band 415 in the early 80’s Great vocalist, underrated in my book. , a buddy of mine has been doing some shows with him Have a great day
Oh very cool. Yeah, I am a huge fan of Mr. Big. was a fan of Billy's from David Lee Roth and talas too. Eric is a great singer.@@billc.5861
Fire and water, another banger!!
Can you imagine a super group with Paul Rodgers, Glenn Hughes and Steve Marriott vocalizing together!
Hughes on bass/vocals, Marriot guitar/vocals, Rodgers vocals and Simon Kirke on drums. Pure fire!!
Amber asks what were people doing in the 60's and 70's to make this kind of music? They were talented. Period. This is one of my all time favorite albums. Paul Rodgers, vocals. Andy Fraser, bass. The late, great Paul Kossoff, guitar. Simon Kirke, drums.
There’s no comparison to this and what passes for most music now.
Amen to that!
I saw Free in 1969 and 1970 at a small club in Wolverhampton (England) , sitting only a few feet from the stage. This was the highlight of the show. Andy Frasers' bass solo was incredible, and he was only 17 at the time.
,
"Walk In My Shadow" would be a great follow-up. The musicianship shines!
As much as I love Morrison, Plant, Daltry, Mick, and the other front men of my juggernaut band generation, this guy--right here--cannot be touched. No one has ever even approached the courtyard before the doorway to his realm of deep, soulful, rich vocals...
Welcome to the amazing Andy Fraser, grooviest bass lines ever. Real treasure trove of magic to dive into
Saw Free live several times but their gig at the Royal Albert Hall which must have been 1971 is one of my all time favourite concets, played encore after encore and they were only stopped eventually when the power was cut.
Missed that one but was lucky enough to catch them live twice. Still my favorite, and it’s amazing to hear just how well they hold up all these years later, just a blend of amazing talents. ✌️
Fire and Water, Heavy Load and Wishing Well also worth checking out
Fun fact, Mr. Big (Band) was inspired by this song in naming their band, and they cover this song on their album "Bump Ahead". You will definitely be interested in hearing their version
Great to see some Free, their 2nd album ("Free") is one of the most overlooked in Rock history to these ears. They are not unlike Zeppelin, where every member was a remarkable Musician. Listen to the Bass on this, Andy Fraser was so good. See if you like (you will) "Woman", "I'm a Mover", "The Highway Song", "Songs of Yesterday" or "Trouble on Double Time".
This is my new favorite from free. Thanks J & Amber for taking this request. Woot
One of my favorite Free songs, It's just unfortunate that you didn't react to the live 1970 performance at the Isle of Wight Festival. It's a fantastic video and performance. One of the few instances where the live performance of a band was much more impactful than the audio. Great closeup camera work and you can also hear Paul Rodger's vocal is better (it's a little low in this mix imo.) And Paul Kossoff's guitar solo is absolutely mesmerizing to watch him in that performance. It's almost a life-changing experience to watch, lol. Seriously! I know both Jay and Amber would love seeing it.
Yes, please look at this, it is a fantastic cut and a great concert event with many great bands. Free killed Mr Big there!
Early Fleetwood Mac was a blues act from England check them out!!! Peter Green was the man. Songs: Need Your Love So Bad, Green Manalishi (With The Two-Prong Crown), Black Magic Woman, Albatross and Man of the World to name a few.
An amazing band. They were technically a "one-hit wonder", but they had a hugely immense influence on bands that followed them in the 70's. They laid down the template for superb soulful bluesy rock. Bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foreigner, and Kansas were big fans. Three Dog Night and singers like Wilson Pickett covered their songs. And Free were so young when they did it, just out of their teens. They were a very short lived band. Were only around four years, but they left an impact for sure.
Free was one of many fantastic 70s bands. Another I would love to see your reaction to is the ORIGINAL FLEETWOOD MAC when they were a blues band. " Man of the world " and "Oh Well" are fantastic songs , there are some black and white videos of them on utube, absolutely brilliant.😊
Free are a great band ✔ out Fire and Water, Remember, Traveling in Style, Catch A Train, The Stealer . The Molton Gold Anthology is killer !!👍
The band Mr. Big,does a great cover of this song as well.
They played a campus in town around '72 with Norman Greenbaum and Sugarloaf, about four lifetimes ago. Imagine no cell phones or internet or even cable tv. It was like pre-history.
Free are No2 in my all time favourite bands list, just pipped to No1 by Queen and just beating Mott The Hoople in 3rd.
So much to say about Free. The lead singer Paul Rodgers is known simply as "The Voice". Went on to front Bad Company, had some solo projects including the sensational "Muddy Water Blues" album. More recently a brief fling with Brian May & Roger Taylor as Queen + Paul Rogers. They made a very underrated album and toured the world together. Paul Kossoff on lead guitar. Son of the actor David Kossoff he battled drug addiction for most of his professional career. He died on a flight between LA & New York in 1976 from a blood clot that moved from his leg to his lungs. Andy Fraser on base went on to do solo projects and had some solo chart success. Sadly he died in 2015 from complications arising from AIDS. Finally the big hitter Simon Kirke also a founding member of Bad Company also a member of Ringo Star and his all star band.
Together these guys had a chemistry that is rare. They made some amazing music together. The album Fire & Water where this track & All Right Now came from is an absolute must for any fans of British Blues.
Jay & Amber you need to check out the title track from the album Fire & Water. These guys were absolutely on fire for this album.
Bad Company were originally Paul and Simon from Free, Mick Ralphs from Mott The Hoople (All The Young Dudes, All The Way From Memphis, Roll Away The Stone) and Boz Burrell of King Crimson.
Please check out All The Young Dudes by Mott The Hoople.
Please don't forget Status Quo "Caroline" from Download Festival or Glastonbury!
Must be one of the best songs ever played !!! Free were such a compact band, each very young but raw and at their very best in the band. Listen to “Heavy Load” again a great performance.
Wept, laying in the sunshine, get where I belong, 3 Great mellow ballads from free
Would that be, 'Oh I Wept'?
Oh he sure did 😂
You must play the live version of this, One of the all time classics... You guys ROCK!
One of the rare times when every member of the band fits perfectly. Their catalogue is as good as any rock band. Any.
Yes my favorite Free song, Andy Fraser's bassline is everything.
One of the best rock singers of all time! Effortless!
Rip Paul Kossoff and Andy Fraser. That quick and unique vibrato from Paul gets me every time. He made me buy a Les Paul I don't even like playing. Andy killing that bass soio at only 18 years old, and to top it all off Paul Rogers is taking it home with those bluesy and soulful vocals. The definition of an underrated band.
Fire and Water is also a great track off this album other songs to check out are Wishing Well and Heartbreaker
This is where Mr Big got their name from the Free song Mr Big. Mr big do a really good cover of it!
I love Free's "Wishing Well"!!!!
Greasy.....now that's😎 some greasy groove right there! A time of great flux indeed.
My third ever album aced 14 and still in my top ten now I’m 66 🙌🙌🇬🇧
Wishing Well is my favorite Free song. Fire & Water is another really good one.
My favorite band of all time. Paul Rodgers - Vocals Paul Kossoff-Lead Guitar Andy Fraser-Bass Simon Kirke-Drums. Andy Fraser was a beat on bass and not afraid to play up the neck. Paul Kossoff was criminally underrated and Simon Kirke was so powerful and talented. Watch them do this Live at The Isle of Wight. HUGE crowd and they just owned it. How Free nor Paul Rodgers are in the Rock N Roll HOF is a joke
BAD COMPANY - HOLY WATER 1990 This song is absolutely a Rocker from great singing to guitars riffs and cool Basslines to the Drums hitting hard. Recommend it alot
This is what us " old timers " call a "deep cut". Some of the best music by classic rock bands back in the day got little to no air play. Thank God F.M. came along in the early 70's and introduced us to album oriented rock, ( AOR), radio stations that didn't care if a song lasted over 3 minutes. If you haven't already checked it out, listen to "Iron Butterfly" and their over 17 minute "Inna Gadda Davidda". That's one of the tracks that started it all.
Paul Francis Kossoff was an English guitarist, best known as the co-founder and guitarist for the rock band Free. He was ranked number 51 in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". RIP
That's Paul Rodgers from Bad Company. Free evolved into the supergroup known as, Bad Company.
I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up.
Paul has one of the bluesiest coolest strongest and sexiest voices in rock in my opinion!!! 💕💚💕💚💕💚🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤪🤪🤪
Great to see you reacting to a song by Free and the voice of Paul Rogers. Don't know if you have done them before but 'All right now ' by them is a classic from 1970, with a great guitar riff by Paul Kossoff as on this one. they are Cool rockers-Colin Ward
I GREW UP WITH ""FREE"" AND I AM ENGLISH, WHICH IS WHERE THEY ARE FROM. I WOULD SAY THAT THEY ARE THE BEST BAND I HAVE EVER HEARD. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME
The answer to Amber's question is that a lot of white bands, in the the US and like Free in the UK, went deep with Black Blues, Soul and R n B as a connection to real emotion and expression. The co writer / bassist on this is Andy Fraser, of African / European descent and 18 at the time. In the UK these were kids born around the middle or end of WW 2 and tired of the stiff old standards and looking to express what they felt honestly. When you listen to Free, remember they were a big influence on Lynyrd Skynyrd. The " Doing Their Own Thing " on UK Granada TV is unbelievable. I hope you catch what the lyrics are about, a hard working man telling some rich jerk to stay away from his woman or he's gonna bury him. The version on Free Live is a beast.
Free: Live was dope, Mr Big is fire. 🔥
Listen to the version of this song on Free Live. The bass solo is even better.
Taking into consideration their ages at the time makes Free a truly remarkable band.
One of the greatest voices in Rock.
Paul Kossoff,my all time favourite guitarist.I was at the IOW '70 Festival ,Free were amazing!
Lucky you, I tried to go but it was cancelled, so I went to Wheely
(Sorry ,it was not on in 70, so I went to Weely sp? in 71)
Just a few nights ago I was watching something on TV & heard this in the background..a barroom scene or something gritty & my ears perked up.
This album was one of my favorites my Junior year in High School. Every song is great. Always considered Paul Rodgers one of Rock's best voices especially for Blues-rock.
Loved him with Free even before Bad Company.
💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙
Love the funky, bluesy, southern rock touch. One of those relax with ur fav drink/bourbon and melt into the beanbag chair or hammock. Stay groovy, Peace
Mr big is one of my faves i love all right now but this song is just great
I love Free. I've never heard this particular track before, but I was drawn in from the get go. Awesome rhythm.
Paul Kossoff, lead guitarist, gone way too young, but not forgotten ✌️
They have a Free convention every year near where I live in North East England, a gathering of people who just love Free. People come from all over England. Last one I attended was 40th anniversary of Paul Kossoffs death. Simon Kirke attended and two bands came from Japan to play the music of Free and Paul Kossoffs solo stuff…❤️
I seen a tribute band in sheffield called free and co they did free and bad co songs 👍
@@DavidBroadley-tw7ks There are some really good ones about, I think I might have seen the one you mention
9.4.23. Not many reaction channels really get the combine sounds of singing, and both Lead guitar and bass guitar, along with the drums! I knew you guys would love this! Now you know why Bad Company™️was such a great band, it had its Genesis from the band, Free™️ or at least two members.
One of my favorite songs ever!!
If you love the band "FREE" I’m sure that you’ll love their song, Don’t Say You Love Me!
Paul kossoff what a guitar player. Great group. FIRE AND WATER IS YOUR NEXT ONE
Paul Rogers- one of the top rock vocalists of all time!
The One and Only Paul Rodgers. I sent yall a DVD 9f Paul Rodgers live in Glascow a couple years ago along with a DVD of David Gilmour of Pink Floyd live and Earls Court, and a Stevie Ray Vaughn wood burn among other stuff. Paul Rodgers is also lead vocal for Bad Company. He is still performing and still has that power voice.
I was confused by the graphic at the beginning. Until I saw one of the comments I thought this was a song named "Free" by the band Mr. Big. 😅 This reminds me of Led Zeppelin with a big helping of funk.
The incomparable voice of Paul Rogers, best known as the lead singer for bands Bad Company and also The Firm, along with his solo work. Free was very early stuff, back when he and we were still pups! 😊
The singer's name is Paul Rodgers, one of the greatest voices in English rock. After Free disbanded he and Free drummer Simon Kirke went on to form Bad Company. After Bad Company disbanded Paul formed the band The Firm with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page in the 80's. Paul would then go on to front Queen in the 2000's.
Some other must listen Free, Catch A Train, The Hunter, Fire & Water, Little Bit Of Love, My Brother Jake, Mouth Full Of Grass, Woman, I'm A Mover, The Stealer, Goodbye.
That bass almost sounds like Bootsy Collins playing some P-Funk.
I've heard of this band, but never heard a song by them before. The lead singer gave me a Rober Plant vibe. Cool song!
The band Mr. Big was named after this song, The Bassist Billy Sheehan loved this song.
Totally forgot about this song until I heard the 2nd chorus !
As a big fan of Bad Company, never knew about this side of Paul Rogers! Thanks for teaching me a new side of an old love!
they were all in their early twenties or late teens when they recorded this.. Kossof was a great guitarist.. but, Andy Fraser's bass playing was something else.. what a band.. First band I ever saw live.. unfortunately after Fraser had left.. This is the soundtrack of when I first discovered music..this is a great track.. but, "Be my Friend ' 'My Brother Jake' 'Wishing Well' 'Fire and Water' and so many other tracks, deserve a listen too..
I love this band! I bought their greatest hits set about 15 years ago.
For some modern Southern Bluesy Rock, may I suggest either JJ Grey & Mofro - Circles, Tragic, and Mississippi are my 3 favorites. Or Gary Clark Jr - Bright Lights.
Love this type of sound!
Love the blues incorporated in to rock!
suggest these -The Outsiders "Time won't Let Me" 1967
Them from Belfast "Gloria"1960's you have reacted to lead singer. many times.
Fourtunes "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again"1960's
Fourtunes "You've Got Your Troubles I've Got Mine"
Easy Beats from Australia their answer to the Beatles "Friday on My Mind" 1967 covered by the Boss.
Foundations British group "Fill Me up Butter cup" and "Baby Now That I've Found You"late 60's
The Cowsills The real Partridge family" The Rain The Park And other Things" or" Hair" mid 60's
Delfonics 60's to today Philly soul romantic. La La means I love You" or "Didn't I" ( Blow Your MInd This Time).
This is some groups y'all have not reacted too i believe. They are not hair bands but jay they were great in there day and they left some great music. there is more!!!from Garfunkel " 99 miles from LA" to Mumford and sons blue grass , banjo British" I Will Wait" to Crystal Gayle" Don't it make my Brown Eyes Blue" know y'all have a lot of request but this is some that were requested before. thanks for all y'all do to bring a smile each day Thank you
Saw Bad Company but never got to see Free. I learned to dance to “It’s all right now” ❤❤❤
There was so much going on musically at that time. Unfortunately many of these rock groups are practically forgotten today. What a pity. I highly recommend you two of my favorites: Family (Larf & Sing, Spanish Tide) and Quicksilver Messenger Service (Who Do You Love, Gold & Silver, Edward The Mad Shirt Grinder). So many forgotten gems.
Jeff Beck’s Cause we ended as lovers live has a great bass solo and the bassist is a young woman.
The lead singer is Paul Rodgers who later went on to front Bad Company and then The Firm with Jimmy Page. The guitarist was Paul Kossoff.
Free were all teenagers when they started. Andy Fraser on bass and Paul Kossoff on guitar (rip to both) were phenomenal. Singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke went on to form Bad Company with Mott the Hoople guitarist and Boz Burrell the bassist from King Crimson (also rip to Boz).
The great Mick Ralphs on sturdy, ripping guitar. 🎸
@@vicprovost2561 how did I forget to mention Mott the Hoople’s Mick Ralphs with Bad Company on guitar?
Wishing well!
Really was MAGICAL TIME
Lead singer, Paul Rodgers was lrad singer for Bad Company after Free. And also joined Queen after Freddie Mercury Passed Away. And he still sounds as good as he did back then. ❤🎼
Did Rodgers join another band or did the band change its name? Somewhere in between. Maybe it was kind of like a Quarrymen kind of thing.
@@BlackHatCinephile he was also in the groups The Firm & The Law
@@kimcutts6153 I never heard of The Law, but the Firm was a supergroup, like the Wilburys.
The next time you review a Bad Company number, remember that their singer Paul Rodgers was in Free as a young man. He wrote and sang hits with both bands, and was and remains to this day an extraordinary rock vocalist.
Paul Kossoff the guitarist was in his own domain which separated him from most guitarists of the time, listening to you talk about that guitar section and how it made you feel is what he was all about, feel not explosive in your face blues like Led Zep at the time. Kossoff made his own sound fans and musicians alike recognize in a heartbeat.
Great band. Keep'em coming.
Bands like Free and Faces are such a groove.
Glad you got to hear more of Free. All Right Now is an amazing song, but too many people only know that one Free song. Fantastic band all working together. Paul Rodgers is one of the best voices in rock. After Free he went on to Bad Company, The Firm and even Queen for a bit. He also has several solo albums including Muddy Water blues from 1993. Please react to the title track. There is the acoustic version to start the album and the electric to finish it. Fire And Water would be a good Free song to do next.
Great album with a bunch of great guitar players, I agree, title track, both versions is a nice start but there are other great guitarists, like Jeff Beck slamming on his 2 tunes. Great suggestion! Paul Rodgers forever!
Paul Rogers sounds so much different here than he did with Bad Company. I've never heard this song, and I would never have guessed it was him if I didn't already know who it was.
