This was an extrmely insightful and fascinating interview. Just goes to show how much of a commanding grasp Nixon had on Foreign policy affairs. He would have made a great statesman or diplomat in that role.
I am listening to this interview in January 2023. It is quite uncanny his insight and foresight regarding Russia (the rise of a non-communist despot and imperialistic aspirations, i.e. the war against Ukraine), North Korea development of nuclear weapons, and the rise of hardline leaders in China. Richard Nixon may have had flaws as a domestic politics leader, but in the international stage, he is definitely one of the most intelligent and clear minded politicians that we have seen in a long time.
IMO there’s no way Nixon would’ve been forced out with the advent of the internet. His party abandoned him. History has shown that he was a great president.
What would the internet have done for Nixon? He committed crimes and got caught, why should any party stick with a criminal? History (mainly via the internet) has exposed his lies and atrocities he was directly a part of like extending the Vietnam war and overthrowing a democratically elected government in Chile, leading to a brutal military dictatorship. He was also accused by many people close to him of beating his wife.
@LegoGuy87 Trump have received a lot of criticism and laugh which can explain your idea. Yet I was talking about Obama and his weak nature. Enemies despised him indeed.
Remarkably intelligent and insightful, clearly read all of his briefings while he was in the White House. Also, at least he had the senses of decency and pragmatism to resign. He spared a lot of people having to waste their time trying to prove something that was abundantly clear to absolutely everyone with an IQ above 50. Very much a citizen of the real world.
Nixon was a brilliant man who did many positive things, not just in his role as president, but throughout his political career. Unfortunately, Watergate negates his many accomplishments. I thought president Clinton summed it up well when he said during Nixon's funeral, that it would be unfair to judge Nixon on one event and that we should look at his life in totality. I am not saying Watergate was a step forward in American political statesmanship but should have Nixon been forced to resign, this is for people to decide. When president Clinton got involved with the Monica Lewinsky issue, he was impeached and lost his law licence but remained on the job. U.S. congressman Charles Rangle was investigated and found guilty of corruption and he maintained his position, etc. Look at what just happened with Hillary Clinton, this is someone who knowingly was writing highly classified Emails on her own personal computer and erased hundreds of Emails and got off Scott free for an offense that would usually carry a ten year prison sentence. I understand two wrongs don't make a right. But, Nixon should be remembered for his many positive attributes not just Watergate.
EPA, ERA (womans rights), Philadelphia Plan, opened up China ( there hasn't been any US combat in Asia since Vietnam), worked with CORE, Airdrops saved Israel durring Yom Kippur War. Desegragation of schools as Eisenhowers VP and pres. War on Cancer. Etc.
A real life Machiavellian, and I mean that in a positive way. Hopefully a hundred years from now when people look past Watergate that they'll see a true leader and political genius who America wrongly ousted. I still wish he would have been able to finish his term so I could see what other wonders he would have done.
President Nixon was still sharp as a tack even in his last days. President Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's and by the time he died he didn't have any memory of being President. Crazy how these things work.
You know, I’ve come to the same place to. Until 2017, President Nixon held the mantle of the most racist post-Woodrow Wilson President. His “War on Drugs” was as conniving and cruel as it gets, deliberately associated liberals and African Americans with drugs to indoctrinate people into hating them. Not to mention that President Nixon’s economic strategy...was beyond abysmal. I get what he was aiming for, but...yikes. But though I see him as one of America’s worst Presidents...President Nixon was the *best ambassador* this country has ever had with the exception of President Thomas Jefferson. President Nixon is easily the smartest of all Presidents hailing from the Republican Party. The only Presidents I’d say had a higher IQ were Jimmy Carter (176), Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and Bill Clinton. But most inspiring of all. *President Nixon. Did. Not. Quit.* After losing as the incumbent Vice President to the young Senator John F. Kennedy, then losing the California Governor’s race, everyone thought he was finished. Heck, *Nixon* thought he was finished and gave “his last press conference.” But he made a comeback. Won comfortably in 1968. Won re-election in one of the greatest electoral landslides ever in 1972. Then came Watergate. The most disgraceful scandal ever for a President at that time. But the ex-President said he would make a comeback from even that. *And he did.* His post-Presidency work as an unofficial Ambassador for President Ronald Reagan made him one of the ten most respected men in the late 80’s according to a Gallup Poll. Beyond amazing what President Nixon managed to achieve on a personal level. I wish he wasn’t primarily remembered for Watergate. There was much, much more to the man. Much more.
He was usually right. It'd be great if we could get past the one black mark on his presidency. He really had a great political mind. Very, very intelligent statesman and person.
Vietnam was kind of a stain on his foreign policy legacy and Watergate a stain on his character. That compounded with an unsympathetic media along with his lack of political chops led to a generally unflattering legacy. He was never going to be remembered as a "great" president, although there was, and still is, potential to be remembered as an effectual and pragmatic president.
Agree. He was too paranoid of the media and his enemies. His record spoke for himself... he should have looked forward and worried about what he was doing and not his detractors. That was his undoing... micromanaging all the BS around him which in the end was just noise.., after all the wine the election so decisively and he should have known that the watergate break in wasn’t necessary... too many negatives if they were caught vs the little upside on getting dirt on them when he was leaving in the polls. At the end of the dar, watergate was nothing compared to the modern days of Trump with Russia, pornstars, corruption, nepotism and so forth...

He needs a short haircut and his eyebrows trimmed.
This was an extrmely insightful and fascinating interview.
Just goes to show how much of a commanding grasp Nixon had on Foreign policy affairs.
He would have made a great statesman or diplomat in that role.
Most insightful, indeed. Thank you.
This dude knows his shit!
The brains of this man are unparalled even to this day
So you liked it when Nixon gave his wife Pat a black eye ... you are sick
Good thing, since he was obviously sick in the brain.
@@jeffallcock4561 Wow! You are brilliant.
Oddly un-balanced. Over compensating for something.
you should get out more
This was approximately 2 Years before Richard Nixon passed away. Still sharp as a tack. Compare him with Slo Joe. No Comparison.
SLO Joe must have visited Epstein Island too many times and it corroded his brain.
Intelligent and visionary man for sure. We need one like him in the free world.
Listen to him, compared to Trump, Busch 2, Biden..........he knows history, politics and world order as he understands it.
They're all mental retards compared to Nixon, we were lucky to have him as long as we did.
Brilliant man
Good piece, subscribed!
jermaineonealnumber7 Thanks!
Oh man. Presidents used to talk like him: in complete sentences.
that's why I don't like Obama, he is only good with the teleprompter showing lines from books.
@LegoGuy87 Trump have received a lot of criticism and laugh which can explain your idea. Yet I was talking about Obama and his weak nature. Enemies despised him indeed.
Trump does
Except when he was drunk, or bonkers, which he often was
@Joseph Mallouhi He's inarticulate, with the vocabulary of a stunted 16-year-old, and he's the worst President ever.
I would have loved to hear his thoughts on 9/11
ahhhhhh... dammnnnnn HIS VOICE....
great interview
Nixon, for all his faults, was a genius politician. He had an incredible ability to see the long-term effects of political decisions.
Nixon sounds like he could have hosted 60 minutes.
Maybe the last great president. One of the old guard.
Lawrence Kauderer name one........
Etc.
There is one uglier thing that Watergate, taking us off the Gold Standard.

@@andrewnlarsen true.
Wow his intelligence is exceptional
Perhaps the most brilliant man to every hold office in the United States. Simply brilliant.
A real life Machiavellian, and I mean that in a positive way. Hopefully a hundred years from now when people look past Watergate that they'll see a true leader and political genius who America wrongly ousted. I still wish he would have been able to finish his term so I could see what other wonders he would have done.
Log s we really don't lol. That's a for sure insult to Nixon.
Nixon gave his wife Pat a black eye when he was President .. so here is a wonder you can ponder about Nixon
You are sadly mistaken.
@@jeffallcock4561 Nah
I disagree, he shouldve won 1960
He may show his nice face or old age made him wiser, but he is very eloquently spoken indeed.
President Nixon was still sharp as a tack even in his last days. President Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's and by the time he died he didn't have any memory of being President. Crazy how these things work.
Half of the president's suffered from some kind of medical issues
And I heard Clinton actually suffered from erectile dysfunction and he was so desperate for sex he begged an intern to give him one.
I like the humbled reserved Nixon after his big fall
R.I.P. Richard V. Allen 1936-2024
Can't help but like Nixon in spite of his troubled past. A wise old man indeed.
Heck, *Nixon* thought he was finished and gave “his last press conference.”
But he made a comeback. Won comfortably in 1968. Won re-election in one of the greatest electoral landslides ever in 1972.
Then came Watergate. The most disgraceful scandal ever for a President at that time. But the ex-President said he would make a comeback from even that.
*And he did.*
His post-Presidency work as an unofficial Ambassador for President Ronald Reagan made him one of the ten most respected men in the late 80’s according to a Gallup Poll.
Beyond amazing what President Nixon managed to achieve on a personal level. I wish he wasn’t primarily remembered for Watergate. There was much, much more to the man. Much more.
You're an idiot if you think Nixon was worse than any Politician or President.
Amazing insight!
Great man. My heart is with Mr. Nixon!
absolutely mental debate questions looking back 29 years later. my how this has all aged....
A great man with fatal flaws.
I agree with my Grammie in calling Mr. Nixon the best president, after Gen.Washington,we ever had,in the history of the U.S.
I have much admiration and respect for this man
wow 14:14 he predicts russian modern situaiton
If there is such a thing as psychic, nixon had some ability to look ahead and see how things will be. He definitely called it.
He was usually right. It'd be great if we could get past the one black mark on his presidency.
He really had a great political mind. Very, very intelligent statesman and person.
A scumbag Putin stole Russia and russian never had a chance with freedom. Lol.
@@ownSystem Has Putin actually been that bad for Russia?
@@seanmcmanus2777 No. Just the usual western fear mongering.
Even if you don't like him he is an excellent speaker
If Nixon hadn’t worried about his enemies and just stuck to himself he would of been remembered as a great president
He was a great president. whoever disagrees with that has a 1st grade education on politics.
All due respect of course, Mr. President.
And your statement is true.
One of the most intellectually intelligent & informed men in the world.
This guy is foretelling future events, could he have been warning us?
