I've worked with Heinz in the past, he taught me all I know of stone age style pottery. You did well Felix. A tip would be to add cooler coals around the pots as they heat up, building up the heat by adding more and more coals, while moving the pots forwards. You can also add th coals inside the pots towards the end of the heating process. Not all clay that you find is suitable though, some is too sandy, and others have too much organic material in it. If you guys find some clay and want to try it out. First dampen the clay, and try to make a ring from it. If it forms a ring without cracks it's good. Form a small disc of around 10cm diameter and around 5mm thick and try to fire it. This way you can save time by forming pots that won't fire. Greetings from Austria
Dear Felix- Our family enjoys your videos very much. We’ve learned tons of tricks to use our Victorinox knifes. Love your energy and sense of humor. Been to Switzerland 🇨🇭 many times. What a beautiful country! 🏔 Keep up the great work. cheers g
I love your videos don't stop doing them I have a victorinox Swiss army I have a few different models and I love your tips and tricks videos they're amazing no one should overlook having a Swiss army knife in there bug out bag or everyday carry
Hi Felix. I always enjoy your videos because there is always something new, sometimes ingeniously simple on the usual bushcraft topics. That's why you're always interesting. Thank you.
Excellent video. I especially like the partly fired center ball idea. I have blown up dozens of cups and bowls over the years, finally achieving about a 25% survival rate in open fire firing. Thank you very much for this video. Be well and at peace.
Great video, Felix. Save those broken bowls, grind them into powder and use the powder to stabilize the clay and prevent shrinkage in your next pottery project.
The same method that ours ancestors, a job not very complicated process except drying the bowl, and waterproofing with the stone. Really very special task. Great job.
Respekt!
Great job! If you're not in a rush, letting them dry in the air for a day or two would help reduce chances of explosions when firing. I'm a clay teacher, and thoroughly enjoyed your video!👍 I don't often work with wild clay, but I want to now.😊
Wow I use this method for a school project back in19 forgotten,,, to make some stone age type pots , polished, dried and then fired in slow burning saw dust , I wonder what happened to them, thanks for bringing back the memories, with your super video
I love pottery! 😃 Pots explode when they have air bubbles inside... 🙃They should get red hot to get well cooked. 😄 You could try making the coating just with soap. 😆If you add saw dust to the clay, you could make a water filter from the pot... 🙂Heard the with salt you could make a good glazing...
Interesting video. The way the world is going that might be something good to know. I haven't made any pottery since high school 51 years ago. Thank you.
Hello Felix, I tried to make this bowl in the past and failed. Your fantastic video helped me understand where I went wrong. I did not clean the clay enough, did not give it enough drying time and did not polish with a stone. You have given me a great lesson in traditional fired pottery making. Thank you
Hello Felix! Please keep up the good work. I tell everyone I know to watch and subscribe to you. Your videos are perfect, I love the silence and nature sounds and also enjoy the diffrent types of music you use especially some drum and bass. You are a very happy person, I know it is because of spending so much time with nature.
Exactly what every pottery video needs. MORE COW BELL. 😄😄😄 As always Felix Your videos are amazing. Glad your break is over for a time. Other bushcraft videos just lack your flare.
Congratulations, Felix! What an important video...! I can understand you perfectly because I committed the same mistakes in my first attempt. I use to smoke with a clay pipe, and I make its bowls. Polishing helps a lot, as you say. It's easy to make also tripods to held a pot over the coals: only a star of 3 arms, like a capital Y, very small and will the correct shape on the surface to adapt to the shape of the bottom of the pot. Thanks!
Spectacular something from nothing very cool hello from Detroit Michigan USA Great video Brother thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise and GOD-BLESS
That was an excellent project, my friend! I also believe I have enjoyed this as much as any of your other projects in the last year or so. Best wishes from the United States of America!
Great job, Felix! I've never tried crafting bowls or drinking cups from clay, but way back in 2005 I tried sculpting a few figures from clay. My sculpting skills are practically non-existant, but my Swiss Army Knife helped me to do a decent job for my first project of that kind.
I have done a little bit of pottery in my time and you can get good results by letting the shaped clay air dry before exposing it to any heat, and yes I am aware that you were making the pots in a day and that you did a good job with rapid drying the clay.
Always enjoy your videos, very inspiring ideas to try when I am out in the woods. I would like to try this, and add a ring to stabilize it on a flat surface, and possibly add a handle.
I really liked the technique you used. I have been playing around with some clay in the woods I visit and I have made a couple of small items successfuly but not as aesthetically pleasing as yours so I think I will try your technique next :) . I found in the woods where I visit if a large tree has been uprooted the rootball area is the best place to gather the clay from as it can be very dry and easy to remove any debree. I have also used beeswax and fat to help waterproof small bowls for drinking vessles. I think clay is one of the most versatile commodities for bushcraft but as a viewer on youtube I have not seen many taking advantage of such a useful product. Thanks for sharing Felix.
Wow! I never knew how making such a fine pottery cup could be made in so few hours of a day. Great preparation, and such a wonderful technique. Bravo Felix! Much love and *hugs* Wendi 🌻🌻🌻
I love the pride you took in this video! Your the sweetest man, full of ingenuity! I'm glad to see how this is done, it is something everyone should know. I have a very fine porcelain clay where I live. I wonder if polishing with the stone will yield different colors with different clays, or different types of stones.
I loved the sound they made! Well, not the cracked one... But it works as a reminder that you need to heat them more before you but them om the coals! So keep it!
I really enjoyed that, Felix, it was well explained and fun to watch too. How about sealing the outside of your bowls with birch tar? Even bowls that ended up with tiny holes or cracks in them after the drying process could be salvaged that way and you're making the tar from natural ingredients too.
This guy is my new favorite TH-camr! 😄
Thanks a lot Mat!😁
We miss you. Hope you aren't sick or injured!
No it's all right... but thanks for the request!
The ringing noise was amazing it made my day. Would be fun to make wind chimes or something
Thanks for your idea!
Brilliant, I can just imagine our ancient ancestors making these beautiful bowls.
Thanks a lot James!

LG Micha
Danke dir Micha!
excellent - as always....mix in some small gravel or sand (grog) in with the clay, less chances of exploding if not dry enough
Very cool always impressed with your work
