It genuinely isn’t talked about anywhere near enough that the referees go the UAE and get paid thousands. 115 charges and referees on the same payroll and it’s just completely ignored
Let's also not forget just how many dubious red cards we got in the 1st half of the season, don't know the stats but it felt like it was practically every game for the 1st 15 games of the season! It was insane how we were clawing out results at times, add that to the fact that we had a whole complete midfield that had never played together before, nobody predicted we'd be in a title race and it was a miracle we were!
Siobhan is spot on, I felt exactly the same way after Palace, the whole quadruple thing was getting too much. There was no way the team was going to keep the high wire act going and it feels like a relief to get some calm back on board. Jurgen is/was a total legend, best thing that's happened to the club for decades, an amazing ride, but I feel it was the right time to go, to re boot, re set. Brilliant show.
I was at nearly all the games in the 2nd half of the season, including the Wembley final which was incredible in its own way! We won it with the kids 🎶 The atmosphere in extra time was amazing and spurred the players on to beat Chelsea rent boys. But where Klopp got it very wrong in the run in was to bring in returning injured players when they weren’t fit or in form. Instead we had Harvey Elliott one of the best players of the season, on the bench?! Why? Szoboslai and Salah were awful, yet both still played at Old Trafford, Crystal Palace and then the Everton game which was disgraceful and losing to the Blue shite for the first time in 14 years! Worse watching it live at Goodison. Atalanta, Crystal Palace were the real low points and then Everton topped it off. Then Konate did not play against Everton or West Ham, who were both a threat aerially. Quansah struggles in the air and defending crosses, as shown with West Ham’s equalising goal. Conor Bradley a better defensive player than Trent Alexander Arnold. Nunez was also particularly shit, since getting injured at Brentford. He was better coming off the bench. I don’t see him as a long term striker for Liverpool, he’s too erratic. Arne Slot really needs to work on Liverpool’s defending and their transition when losing the ball in midfield, as it is too easy for opposition attackers to get into goal.
It’s absolutely remarkable that we were even on for the quadruple (AGAIN) after you listen to Stu’s summary right at the start! Brilliant summary of everything that’s happened this season! 👏🏻
Why is does everyone take it as gospel that Slot will play 4-2-3-1? Klopp was also married to that system at Dortmund but ended up playing 4-3-3 at Liverpool! Good managers adapt and evolve to what they have available. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still 4-3-3 next season under Slot. A Cb that can stay fit must be the priority followed by a DM
I can 100% guarantee we are playing 4-2-3-1, its what Slot knows, what he is best at coaching and gives us the best chance to be successful with him at the start, before he can really build the squad he wants
Stu was spot on. I think he said around November time that Nunez, no matter the ‘ chaos’ etc would cost us lots of points because of his finishing. He wasn’t only only player not to deliver( conceded too many) but Stu was spot on early doors, sadly
I know everyone or certainly most people are questioning Konate now due to the emergence and fast learner in Jarrel Quansah but let us not forget that when Konate is back to his old self as he was in January and February and most parts of the season, he was very hard to get passed through and was building quite well from the back. I like Quansah emergence as it has shown to everyone that it is not very hard to break Liverpool senior centre back rankings and he would make himself better but also " force" Konate to improve cos he obviously does not want to stay on the bench. We are back in Champions league where games are most times even harder than pl facing world class forwards and wingers midfielders, in a defender it does not depend only in winning tackles only but your reading of the game which is very much epitomized by the brilliant Virgil van Dijk.
Stu sums it up perfectly but i reckon when “our wheels fell off” at the final push it’s because they were putting far too much pressure on themselves to win everything. Ultimately it wasn’t going to be our year because of everything else, including our own shiteness a lot of the time. I want a cold well drilled winning machine, not blood sweat and tears because that costs too much mentality and physically. Klopps way of playing needs a fresh turnover of players regularly to keep the rate of play up, but that stagnated because Klopp also liked to keep players… which actually brought success too, but physically and mentally exhausted players aren’t much good.
Far to many excuses for me. Klopp made a decent fist of the season, especially with a new midfield, but in the end Arsenal and City were stronger teams who performed more consistently. On the positive side we were fortunate to see how good some of the young lads will be. Looking forward to next season already.
Im just glad we won a cup. Makes our record that bit better. Main regret is not beating utd at all and embaressing oursleves in Europa, but theres always something. Weve battered utd enough times.
Slot will play a system that suits the players he,s got just like Klopp did. Maybe that's 4- 2-3- 1 but it's just as likely to be a different formation . I'm sure he,l work put what's best . YNWA
My thoughts on last season: I can't get over the VAR incompetence at Spurs Can't expect to win if we keep missing sitters Our defensive organisation / planning just not good enough
If Liverpool could have beaten Spurs in October and still go down to 9 men, (especially in the shadow of the Newcastle comeback) that would have been the "mentality monsters" game that Klopp & Ljinders needed in 2023/24 to kick the team onwards as Liverpool 2.0.
On the defensive chat- I do not think our back 4 is solid enough for next year. Trent major question marks positionally but also not solid enough as a defender, Konate showing he is as frail as Matip never available and also showing signs he may nog be the defender we thought, Virgil fine, Robbo getting more injury prone, Tsimikas not good enough, Gomez we made worse over the years
Agree with this except it’s an emphatic no on what you say about Gomez. First and foremost: he’s got better. Looks back to his best. Also: What does ‘Liverpool made him worse’ actually mean? Were the coaching staff snipping the laces off his boots when no one was watching?
2018-2020 Joe Gomez and Van Dijk were the best defensive pair on the planet. Gomez was a nailed on starting Centre Half for Liverpool and England, at times looking better than Virgil. Yes he's had injuries, but fast forward to 2024 and Joe is lucky to get a start at Centre half. Konate has taken that second spot and now Quansah looks more likely to have the shirt. Joe is a step down at right back from Trent, and obviously a step down on the left side under Robbo. He is now used as a utility sub, yes he's performed well doing a job there, but I would prefer the regular starter in each of the fullback and DM roles. Joe has had a really good season actually but he is far from the player he was at his best. So somehow, whether through chopping and changing his positional availability, injury, or lack of starts from the manager, we now have a less capable defender in the squad than 4 years ago.
And I love Gomez btw, I would be over the moon for him to get his spot back as a CB and get regular minutes there, so this is just an honest assessment of the defense currently, not a personal attack
My guess is he’s been that utility option both out of necessity, and Klopps emphasis on rhythm. No Robb and/or Trent for spells. Tsimikas is poor and was injured at the same time as Robbo. You have Joe who, remember, got that cruel big injury last season. Need to play him into form. He’d been out for too long to be bedded back in at centre half. Again, the injury, the lack of rhythm. Fabino and Robbo didn’t play for 6 months each at the start cos of lack of rhythm. He couldn’t have been better this season given both the injury and the being played out of position. For me come preseason he’s back vying for the centre half starting berth again. And that is the absolute best you could’ve hoped for.
FSG didn't bolster the defence in the summer or January windows. FATE Some players got injuries, and our medical and conditioning team hadn't got used to Klopp's use of players. FATE Some subjective refereeing decisions didn't go our way. FATE Drivel.
Jesus, the start was very oh woe is me... The fact is injuries happen to every team, the schedule alone contributes to that, everyone dealt with it, and have had to in previous seasons. We can't act surprised when players like, Matip, Thiago, Jota, Jones, Konate, etc, pick up injuries. They have rarely been available for 2/3 years. The Afcon, not in our control and we knew about it well in advance. And, we actually performed well in that spell, in any case. Poor VAR decisions, name me a team that has not had to deal with that. That is a variable that we have no bearing on, and can not be controlled. While many would like to think otherwise, it is down to incompetence, not a conspiracy. The referees are not fit for purpose, hell the vast majority are not even fit and I can see their bellies wobbling in their black shirts, as they run more than should be permitted. We missed out on the title because of a number of reasons more valid than fate. A few being: Klopp's selection, the tactics employed, relying on individual brilliance to see us through far too often, transfers being a year or two to late, forcing us to play catch up all the time, relying on injury prone players again and again, then acting surprised when they got injured again, when squad depth should have been enhanced. Not to mention, City and Arsenal being a level above us. And, Atalanta seizing the opportunity that Klopp gave them, with his team selection, which will never fail to baffle me.
Gullible and naïve Work out the money the bookies have to pay out if Liverpool won the league every year, compared to a non entity of a club like city And you ignore the Anglo - Saxon , Celt aspect in bedded in English society
already can’t bear the guy who spoke first, and the nonsense he came out with at the start was just bizarre. Injuries happen - our squad is good, but not good enough to win the league whilst Pep is here
All of those gasps of breath before speaking. It was as if Dennis Hopper from Blue Velvet was doing the review of the season. Stand back from the mic, mate!
