I don't know if you read these comments but I need to point out that Irisviel knows about Kiri's other relationship and encourages it in the novels because she knows she will die during the grail war and wants Kiri to move on with another women.
To try explain Kiritsugu's feelings for Irisviel is a bit complex, as you said. Kiritsugu met Iris when she was first made, as a Homunculus. Despite being fully grown physically at the time of her "birth", she knew nothing of the world, and didn't have emotions. After saving her one time, he tried to teach her about the world, with books, movies, and music. They eventually fell in love, but it hurt Kiritsugu, because he knew Iris wouldn't last for long. Iris wanted Kiritsugu to have something after her death to bring him happiness, so she had a child with him, and married him. She got to experience love, marriage, and even being a mother, things that she was never meant to have as a homunculus. That's why she is so happy, and at peace, despite dying. Now, his relationship with Maiya is not romantic at all. He cares about her, and can relate to her more than Iris, who is innocent and sweet, but he doesn't have feelings of romantic love for her. He does, however, have a relationship with Maiya. The reason, yeah, it's complicated, because Kiritsugu is one weird guy. But basically, in his mind he feels like a failure of a husband for his wife's inevitable death. So, he got intimate with Maiya as a way to hurt himself. "Preparing himself" for his eventual betrayal towards Irisviel, by allowing her to die to become the grail. But by all means, Iris is the one he loves. It's just that he always knew Iris' death was inevitable since the moment he met her. The Einzbern family, and Irisviel's fate is also very complicated, because of the sheer amounts of lore in the Fate franchise, but I will try. In the world of Fate, there is the concept of "True Magic". This is space-bending magic, something that all Mages try to get their hands on. However, to get True Magic, a mage must reach "The Root of Akasha". Basically, the root of all that exists. And once they obtain True Magic, only that mage, and their descendants, can use that magic. So, the goal of every mage is to reach "The Root", to obtain "True Magic." The 3rd True Magic which they talked about in this episode is called "Heaven's Feel", the materialization of the soul. 3rd True Magic is the magic used to summon servants from world history, which the planet itself will do if faced with a world-ending threat. Some time thousands of years ago, there was a mage able to use the 3rd magic. But she died and the ability was lost. So, the Einzbern family started creating homunculi in the hopes of making a copy of that mage, and reclaim the 3rd magic. They were able to one day create Justeaze von Einzbern. She, the Toshaka, and Matou then worked together to create the Holy Grail war, using the 3rd magic, and use the souls of the summoned servants to create a path to The Root, so the winner can obtain their own True Magic. Irisviel is her descendant, but is stated to be extremely similar to Justeaze, looking like an identical copy of her. The world of Fate is so huge, and complex. But it's why I like it so much. Thanks for your reactions to this series so far!
@@MrInuhanyou123 I am trying to help 😭 Nothing of this is explicitly mentioned in the anime anywhere, and you'd need to read 100 hours of VN, or read a whole wiki page to understand this.
I think the reason why Kiritsugu is more invested in Maya than Iris is because he knew Iris was going to become the grail so he disconnected emotionally.
13:15 I would like to repeat: I hate the Matous (Palpatine and his family), Kariya is like the only semi-redeemable one (Ok I MIGHT be forgetting someone but this universe is sooo big it's easy to forget characters when I've been outta the fandom, mostly, for like 4 years) that was born that way... and he's still got problems. Edit: Someone else said it but it boils down to this: Kiritsugu has fully prepared to loose his wife since the day they married, think marrying a woman in the final stages of terminal cancer and an insane ability to control/turn off your emotions. Maiya's death was a complete blindside and (even though he's good at controlling them) compounded on the emotions around loosing his wife, whom he definitely loved. Edit2: I feel like an episode of Luke narrating would be great... maybe not as a reaction but I think it'd be a good fun 'joke' video' sometime.
Ah yes, Zouken aka palpatine has been around for more than 500 years old, the man is more worm than man by this point. The funny part is originally he had a wish to eradicate diseases and help mankind, but I guess over the years he kinda forgot and just kept klinging on life without remebering why he did it in the first place
Only fate zero is like that. One cause it's a different author and also zero is chronologically set to the point where it doesn't matter who dies outside of a few characters so everyone can die besides them

this anime is based on light novel, not a game, and has basically zero (no pun intended) fanservice elements. Fate/Stay Night series is based on visual novel with same name, which originally was eroge (adult scenes there was hilariously bad, because they were added just for increasing sells and author sucks at them and there is like around 4 of them for 80 hours game, so i wouldn`t call it hentai), and even then almost all H-scenes were removed in remastered version that was used as source material for Ufotable`s adaptations of FSN. some people do survive in Urobutcher`s works, but they all will suffer)
@@BekindBekbek well... the eroge came first (fate stay night 2004) and the thing with the worms that Zolgen refers to was stablished in the Heaven's Feel route which deals with a lot of the background for Sakura ... since it is her route.. so yeh all this part? based on the eroge.. which inspired a PREQUEL light novel called fate zero (2006) also.. the visual novel is tagged as "Unavoidable Heroine R#pe" and you gonna say it is not a hentai? @@mrinanisThat tag should probably be removed. The game doesn't have any "R#pe" scenes, unless you count the stupid PG-13 one in the second route. Whoever added that tag probably didn't understand that the tag isn't for mentions of it. Tsukihime had one, though.

Yup. He's already mourned Irisviel. Maiya came out of left field for him.

Gundam franchise: "allow me to introduce myself!"
When Zouken walked into the room to talk with Kariya Luke scratched his nose with his middle finger. LOL. I feel that.

It's such a treat to see others get into the Fate franchise. To think we are at episode 20 already. We are nearing the end of the beginning.
it not the end of the beginning, it hasn't started yet. that why it have minus in every countdown. it mean countdown to the beginning.
