    We will be discussing...
    The Power Foods Diet: The Breakthrough Plan That Traps, Tames, and Burns Calories for Easy and Permanent Weight Loss
    amzn.to/3UPkmPF
    “Weight loss drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic, which come with side effects and a prohibitive price tag, have received an extraordinary amount of media attention,” says Dr. Barnard. “In reality, the best solution for reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is a low-fat plant-based diet that excludes animal products. It’s effective, inexpensive, and side-effect free!”
    Obesity and overweight are among today’s top health concerns. Individuals are constantly looking for easy, effective, and permanent ways to lose weight. It turns out, when properly chosen, certain foods cause weight loss, with no need for the deprivation and planning that most weight-loss regimens require.
    THE POWER FOODS DIET reveals three weight-loss breakthroughs supported by research that:
    1. Reduce the appetite
    2. Trap calories so they are flushed away and cannot be absorbed
    3. Increase the body’s ability to burn calories for hours after each meal

    Dr. Barnard has led numerous research studies investigating the effects of diet on diabetes, body weight, and chronic pain, including a groundbreaking study of dietary interventions in type 2 diabetes, funded by the National Institutes of Health, that paved the way for viewing type 2 diabetes as a potentially reversible condition for many patients. Dr. Barnard has authored more than 90 scientific publications and 20 books for medical and lay readers, and is the editor in chief of the Nutrition Guide for Clinicians, a textbook made available to all U.S. medical students.
    As president of the Physicians Committee, Dr. Barnard leads programs advocating for preventive medicine, good nutrition, and higher ethical standards in research. His research contributed to the acceptance of plant-based diets in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In 2015, he was named a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. In 2016, he founded the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, D.C., as a model for making nutrition a routine part of all medical care.
    ABOUT SHAUNÉ HAYES
    www.theshaunel...
    Having dealt with chronic illness caused by obesity, she started a wellness journey in 2017 and gradually transitioned to a whole food plant based lifestyle. This change in eating helped her lose 100 lbs. and reverse previous issues connected to being overweight including stage 1 hypertension, prediabetes, borderline high cholesterol, frequent heartburn, chronic arthritis, lower limb muscle fatigue, joint pain and infertility. She is so thrilled with the results and changing her life that she now educates others on how the power of plants can prevent, treat and reverse disease and aid in weight loss.
    "Realizing the link between diet and disease during my own body and mind transformation, I pursued earning a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and obtained my designation as a Certified Health Coach through the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute. I am also a licensed Food for Life instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine where I teach plant-based nutrition and cooking classes throughout my community. I also earned a Forks Over Knives Plant-Based Certification through Rouxbe Online Culinary School."

    I have found that when I eat avocado (about 1/2 per day) everyday, my weight is lower. I'm not sure if it's because they make me feel more satiated, so I'm eating less of other things, but I'm not complaining. I love them! 😋

      I think they raise your cholesterol because of the saturated fat in avocados & olives.

    • @ahimsa6791
      @ahimsa6791 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @jgrysiak6566 A whole medium avocado only has 3 grams of saturated fat. So I'm getting 1.5 grams from 1/2. I'm ok with that.

    Such an amazing interview! Tami, you are such a professional interviewer and so well prepared, Dr. Barnard has such helpful information and I think is the most eloquent of the plant based doctors, and now we have Shauné, who is bringing her own transformation and professional communication experience to our community. I was so impressed by her interview with Chuck on the Exam Room Podcast. What an awesome team Dr. Barnard and Shauné are! Surely more great things are to come as the message gets out to more people.

    Thank you for these interesting interviews. I live in a small city in southern Italy and I always get so deflated whenever I hear some say how good blueberries are for you, because here none are organic, when they're available they are from Peru or Chile and so expensive. Also there is no frozen fruit available. Maybe someday.....

    Great info! Is it truth that people with thyroid condition should not eat cruciferous vegetables?

    • @jgrysiak6566
      @jgrysiak6566 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Steam all cruciferous vegetables, this deactivates thyroid blockers. Don't eat raw cabbage for cole slaw or raw kale in smoothies.
