this just blew my mind. to be fair, most of my fretboard is dead lol and this just made the whole "learn your scales" thing SO much more interesting. for the first time i'm actually motivated to figure out the neck, because this makes so much sense
@@SteveAllsworth Do you plan on making more videos for beginner-intermediate level players in the blues/rock/funk territory? your teaching style is pretty unique!
I'm so glade I stumbled across your channel. I've been playing for a very long time and you've opened new doors. For that I thank you. I am having issues downloading the 4th and scale PDF. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again!
Really nice marriage of the CAGED and 4ths structures. Thank you for the lesson!! Though I didn't realize what this was called, not having a formal musical education, I actually learned this from Pat Metheny's Warm Up video found here on TH-cam years ago (still available!) Your teaching is much more effective than just hearing someone play, but the ideas are easily recognizable. Extra credit - do this using spread triads! (Also shown in Metheny's Warm Up!) 😅
Nice one Sammy! Yes I think this is probably an amalgam of Pat, Carl V and Mike Stern's warm-ups I've absorbed over the years - although I haven't seen the spread triad video, I'll def check it out! Thanks again 🙌🏼
Yeah - most people have a love/hate relationship with scales - it's not really music, but can certainly reinforce the fundamentals - hope you find it useful!
@elrafa782 to see this concept in action in making music, check out Jack Ruch and the way he plays. He and Guthrie Trapp hardly move their hand positions when changes commence. This is partly due to the CAGED functionality, but it's also a byproduct of having this understanding that Steve is sharing. It economizes hand position and makes playing over chord changes much more interesting than shape-based scales. 👍
The thumb nail almost made me un-subcribe and move on ... but somehow I didn't. I am not into radical .. that said ... I went to all notifications and will see how it goes .. and send myself a link to this as it is really good and helpful. pat
Out Run!
Classic arcade game!
Had a cool background soundtrack 🤓
Haha yes! 😀
Just found your channel. Solid content, just what i needed to increase my vocabulary. Thank you!
That's great - welcome aboard!

@@SteveAllsworth PS your surname reminds me of Allan Holdsworth
Very interesting Steve !!
But I can't download the PDF. When I give my email the only PDF that I can download is the Lydian Dominant worksheet.
Thanks Thierry - just sent you an email! 🎸

@@SteveAllsworth You have no idea how thankful I am for your teaching skills. It is truly a gift!! Thank you, sir!!
@@Sammywhat you're absolutely welcome! 🙌🏼☺️
Challenge for me. Crazy thing is that this is still basics.
Cheers Erv - absolutely, although truly digging into the basics can often be the most rewarding long term - I hope it helps! 🎸
Challenging for sure, but I’m not sure in what way it can help to play better music… maybe I’m not advanced enough to get it…

Cheers Pat - very glad you found it useful - despite the thumbnail! 😄🎸
what for to play scales in 4-ths in a 12 keys ?????? I do not understand !!
Familiarity with the fretboard, good warm-up, brain workout, music often moves in 4ths, more security when soloing in any key, lots of reasons!
