The thing I love about fabric tails is if you know how to sew you can alter and add in a way that makes even a cheep tail look good. I have three cheep knock offs of tail styles that are no longer made and they have all had glow ups with extra fins, silk fluke extensions and a custom fit. They look amazing in the water and if I pop a stitch I know I can fix it in my own.
That is such a good point. It is a lot harder and takes special knowledge to fix a silicone. So it something happens to your tail with fabric it's an easy fix. I also love that you give new life to your different tails! That's so cool!
Personally I prefer a silicone mermaid tails due to the realism but fabric tails are easier to clean and not as heavy, my fluke is a mono fin(fantasea 1 monofin) so it doesn't have a plastic monofin in it. Which i love more due to how much more realistic and no worries of the monofin breaking inside of it, my tail was $700.00 it's a fantasea silicone tail skin, with the silicone fantasea 1 fluke, i don't have to lube myself up, it has neoprene inside and I wear leggings or shorts with socks with my tail too, I recommend Mertailor and mine took a month to make and he's who I bought my fantasea silicone tail and fantasea silicone monofin from, the customer service is fantastic!
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear you've had to worry about your monofin breaking. I thankfully haven't had to worry about that yet. Mertailor is definitely an excellent brand for the hybrid type tails!

When silicone is on, it's not too bad. It's taking it on and off that's the real pain. But I hear ya, silicone tail wearing professional mermaids definitely have to get used to it!

It’s either the finis rapid or wave (I can’t remember which), but Mernation has switched to using the finis shooter because it is less likely to have the foot pockets collapse under the weight of the silicone.

Water does pass through both my fabric and silicone tails, so yes my legs do get wet when I swim.
