Having said that, "Arirang Alone" is different from "Arirang." "Arirang Alone" is a longing (one of Arirang's meanings) for the unification of Korea, but musically, it has nothing to do with the original "Arirang" in the original song. However, Sohyang incorporated "Arirang" in "Arirang Alone" in her version where everyone sings along in this video. The song talks about the water from Baekdoo Mt, the highest mt in Korea located the most Northen side of Korea and the water from Halla Mt, the second highest mt in Korea located the most Southern side of Korea meet in the middle in a small island in the most Eastern side of Korea. Because the North and the South are so different even though they are the same country people, it's hard to be together. Sohyang brilliantly expressed the difference in her rearrangement of the song (the original song was written early 90s, but in 60s and 70s style - Not a folk song), hence, the dissonant sound when the violins go crazy, but eventually harmonizing. It's expressing the hope that the unification will happen and eventually assimilate. I think Sohyang again brilliantly added the folk song "Arirang," which the North Koreans know as well, symbolizing the assimilated unification. If the original song expressed the hope of unification well with the lyrics, Sohyang made the song complete and perfect for the theme musically. Then, she made it more amazing with her singing ability.
