Both Maki and I cherish this time with our boys and enjoy watching them learn through this life adventure but there are days they teach us a lesson or two! 😁😜
Great crew! Congratulations on the work you are doing raising Oliver and Lucas! They will be successful in what ever they do in life with the foundation you have laid for them. Love following your channel.
Thank you Mark for joining our journey and your kind comment. The boys are truly enjoying this adventure and are seeing and learning so very much. Hope you continue to enjoy the videos! Stay safe! Andy
OLD NAVY PHOTOG suggestion when the boys have the walky talkies have a lanyard or strap on them and around there neck. Every time they set it down is when it's going to get kicked into the drink. Anytime your on deck. One thing we used in the Navy was the hand tools when ever possible would have holes drilled in the handles with lanyards on them and around your wrist. Even as a Navy Photographer every Camera I used was strapped around my neck and to this day I have never dropped a Camera. I've dropped just about everything else. I have one Camera that the body new is 3000.00 Sony A7riv and my most expensive lens is 2000.00 it would be a bad day if they went overboard.
Hi Terry! Great tip and comment. Thanks. We’re actually just in the process of getting new Walkie Talkies (waterproof and float) for the boys but we’ll definitely add a strap for the wrist or around the neck 😁 thanks for joining the journey with us! Stay safe. ~Andy
Oliver and Lukas were so cute as they helped you clean the boat. They took their jobs very seriously, and understood why it needed to be done. That was so awesome! Another great video guys! I look forward to your videos!
Hi Sallyjane! Great to hear from you again :-). The boys LOVE helping and are doing a great job helping keep the boat clean but I think their favorite is helping dock and cast off. It's wonderful to see them growing and learning so much! Stay safe! ~Andy
It's just magic to see that the activities around the cat, in keeping it in ship shape, are not being seen as a chore, and that the boys are really enjoying getting into it. You can actually see their level of maturity and responsibility increasing with each video. They're both awesome little individuals. It's an absolute delight seeing what you're all doing as a family. We're all going on your journey with you, too! Keep well, and keep yourselves safe guys!
Hi David! Both Maki and I believe and we are teaching our boys of the responsibilities of taking care of everything (not just our boat) and certainly never complaining about the chores that come along with those responsibilities. If we embrace them and do it together as a team, it's actually fun and builds pride in ourselves as a crew and family. The boys are really getting into casting off or arriving at docks as they really want to be involved in the process. Thanks for joining the adventure! Stay safe! ~Andy
This is going to be a fantastic trip with memories aplenty! Loving the guppies turning into sailors...they have teamwork already in hand. Right, your fully stocked, a great crew...take us somewhere tropical....cheers.
Hi Tom! Tropical, check! We are so ready for tropical and it is coming. We like most other cruisers have migrated North along the U.S. East coast but we're now getting ready to head back to Florida and then hopefully The Bahamas! With COVID, we'll just have to adjust based on what country will let us enter but yes, tropical is definitely in our plans!
I love the way you are with your boys! What a great way to raise kids. They are learning so much, becoming expert and confident crew, building their relationship with each other. Learning to love work, be a part of a team, building trust in you, themselves and each other. Very nice video! Lovely family!
Thank you Ember for such a lovely comment. The boys are really stepping up to be crew and are really loving it. There's so much for them, for us all to see and experience and there will certainly be new challenges along the way but we'll face it together as a crew and family :-) Stay safe! ~Andy
Right off the launch, you guys are already serious story tellers who know how to bring this into my home and make me feel like i was there. I look forward to years of travels and adventure.
Ah thank you very much Christopher! It makes us really happy to hear comments like yours and we sincerely appreciate it. We really want to share the experience in its truest form so others can learn or just enjoy watching the journey! Thanks for coming along with us.....stay safe! ~Andy
The boys did an excellent job, getting y'all off of the dock. Creating jobs for them will really make them feel like crew. Great video, they are getting better with each one.
Thank you Syephen! The boys are really enjoying learning more and getting a chance to do more on the boat. They're already asking to "drive" the boat :-)). Best ~Andy
For the stainless, look for a product called never dull magic polish wadding. It's like a thick cotton soaked in polish, it comes in a can. It'll last a lot longer than bottle polish, with almost no waste. The pieces of wadding can even be used multiple times you just stick them back in the can. Sounds stupid but my family has been using this on our boats for 3 generations.
Awesome Michael! thank you for letting us know! We'll definitely pick some up! Hope you enjoy the videos and thanks for joining the journey with us. Stay safe! ~Andy
Thank you Francois! The boys are excited to learn and we love having them be a part of the family crew! Thank you for joining the adventure with us! Stay safe! ~Andy
Just found your channel. LOVE IT! I’ve never sailed, but your vids make me believe I could learn how. Keep giving us all information as you unfurl(?) which sail, when and why. It’s cool to learn through you folks. Please be safe! Fair winds.
Welcome aboard Christopher! If you'd like to sail, you CAN definitely get out here and do it too! We're happy to hear our videos inspire you to perhaps try something new in life :-). Stay tuned.....lots more to come! Stay safe.....~Andy
Hi Guys! Great to hear from you :-). Hope all is well. We are tucked in at a marina in the Chesapeake ready for whatever the storm brings our way.....hopefully just a good ole boat washing :-). Stay safe!
All caught up... what a great night binging from the beginning with such an awesome family. Looking forward to many more years following your journey. How refreshing to see two young boys, not only allowed to be boys, but learning such great work ethics (and practical skills) to where is doesn't seem like chores. The epitome of teamwork! Oh.... and fish snatchers too 😂. Everyone else struggles so much, or lose a lot of fish before landing them. It must be your wonderful spirits and ethics that bring them right to you over and over again (I'm sure less than half of them actually made it on video). Nice size, but great call on putting the Bonita ("metallic tuna") back! You are all legends ❤️🤙
hahaha thanks Curt! So you're all caught up! Thanks for spending some time watching our little adventure. The boys are really doing well both boat schooling and learning about so much outside the standard curriculum. Maki and I are so grateful to be able to give them this life experience at this age. Thanks again for coming aboard SV OliLuki......there's more to come! Stay safe! ~Andy
Our boys have always done very well in school but since we've been out on the boat, both Maki and I have been amazed at how much new information they have soaked up! They are loving this experience and we are extremely grateful to be able to do this now at their age.
So happy to see another video. Hope you guys have over on because there is a big storm brewing in. Stay safe! I know the boys are going to make great crew members. Can’t wait to see your next adventure. I will be glad when maybe you start having maybe one a week but I know you are still learning the ropes so when you feel comfortable maybe you can start getting more out. I have been with you from the very beginning and so happy that I can watch while the boys get to learn the ropes of their new sailing adventure. Please stay safe a much love to you all.
Hi Debbie! Thank you for your kind comment and being on board with us from the start :-). The boys are really becoming great crew members and together we are moving right along! I have been working on getting a video out a week and I promise we are moving that way very soon. Just wanted to really get into our groove as a family crew and a new boat but we have lots more to share. It's a crazy summer so please stay safe and we'll see you again soon.......best, Maki
Your helpers are fast learners. (Two terrific boys.) Great job on the video and thank you for sharing your adventure. Best regards, Gary and Linda, Clayton, CA
Love how much you're allowing the boys to learn and be hands on. I would like to hire them. Hope you can hang out in the Chesapeake for a while. It's a wonderful place.
jrp616 in the comment above also wants to hire them. The boys read your comments and are excited to see their hard work and being a part of the crew has potential to pay off :-)). haha! All the best, stay safe.
Thanks Sandra! The boys are really enjoying being on the boat and learning new things. They've already asked if they can drive the boat! Thanks for spending a part of your day with us....hope you enjoy the videos. Stay safe!
@@sailingsvoliluki6938 I bet they are, its theirs mum and dad, its got their names on it...they'll be good for those overnight passages in time...take care, keep safe
Your videos are incredible. Your camera(wo)man and editor are superb, not to mention your choice of music for the video montage sequences. Makes me wish I had a boat of my own -- maybe it's not too late. Take care and be safe.
Glad you like the videos Brian! Maki does an excellent job on them and keeps trying to make them better each time she gets into the editing process! Thanks for coming along on our journey.....more videos to come! All the best and stay safe!
This has quickly become one of my favorite channels. I wait anxiously for new episodes to be released. The quality of filming and editing is great. I love the music choices for B roll and the blend of all the crew. Maki is doing a great job behind the camera. The only negative is we don't get to see enough of her on video! I guess part of the boys training will be to film mom!
Hey Tom, thank you for your kind words! I tend to be a "behind the camera" kinda of girl...but I'll peak out from behind the camera more often. But I am taking full credit for the editing and picking the music for ALL our videos :-) (with Andy's final notes). When we decided to commit to film our whole process of moving to FL on TH-cam, I took some video editing Final Cut Pro courses online and soon developed a true love for editing but then I found it was kind of boring (routine) doing it week after week. So that is when I found that music is everything...I spend hours of listening to music to get inspired and when I find it, it's like...that is it, bring it on!! Again thank you for taking time to write to us, it means a lot. Take good care! ~Maki and the OliLuki crew.
Thanks Marc. Leopard makes a beautiful catamaran and we are truly enjoying being able to sail OliLuki with our boys to fun places! Thanks for joining the adventure and stay safe!
Thanks Patricia. We are safely tucked in at a marina in the West side of the Chesapeake Bay and we'll hang here to ride it out. Tis the season :-). Thanks for joining the journey with us...stay safe! ~Andy
Hi Ale, thank you for joining our journey. We are coming to Annapolis and yes seeing the Naval Academy would be wonderful! Feel free to email me at svoliluki@icloud.com. Thanks! and stay safe! Best, Andy
Another fantastic video guys! It's great to see the boys getting so involved in the process. I really enjoyed watching the explanation and the clip showing how to spring off the dock. Very slick maneuver for sure. I'm curious how long it took for the salt to build up under the front cockpit area? That looked like quite a bit of sailt!
Hi Robert! Hope all is well. Thanks to our dear friend Captain Richard and his phenomenal way of teaching and testing us, we're actually enjoying the docking and casting off process. Springing off is an easy maneuver as long as you pay attention to the current and wind. :-). Regarding the salt build up.......that came from only 3 days at sea because we were in some rougher seas that sprayed water thru the trampoline and all over the front of the boat. In contrast our sail from Wilmington to Norfolk was all calm seas and winds and essentially zero salt on the front cockpit area. That said we usually rinse the boat off after every multi day sail just to keep OliLuki looking ship shape!
Hi Mark, thank you and thanks for spending a part of your day with us. Yes we are already tucked in at a nice marina and will ride it out here. Then the journey continues :-). All the best and stay safe! Andy
Hi Michael! Welcome Aboard......thanks for spending a part of your day with us! The boys are really growing and learning so much daily, one part which is of course taking care of the boat! Stay safe and hope you continue to enjoy the videos. Best, ~Andy
@@sailingsvoliluki6938 Thanks for reply. Taking the time to watch your episodes from the beginning. Got my attention that you are all from San Clemente, as a former US Marine Sgt, I got to enjoy being stationed there in past years and going to Infantry Training School at San Onofre. I relished my weekends off from training and relaxing in San Clemente, eating pancakes at local spots while doing laundry, and escaping from Camp Pendleton for the weekend. Looking forward to following you guys.
Hi Michael, Hope you enjoy all the videos and thank you for joining our journey.....there's more to come! We love San Clemente.....it is truly a great town. Lots of great places to have a meal especially pancakes! I've been to Camp Pendleton several times to partake in the great Mud Run! What a well put on event and an honor to be on base. Thanks again for joining the adventure and above all, thank you for your service! All the best and stay safe! ~Andy
Here I am back to comment about geography, the NC southern coast going east to west rather than north to south confuses even locals sometimes so don't feel bad about calling our east coast the north coast. Your boys really are showing great maturity as crew members. Don't know if your're still in the Chesapeake but take care as Tropical storm/Hurricane Isaias moves north in the next few days. Another great video.
Thank you Angus. Sailing "North" was beautiful especially at night around Cape Hatteras......so dark you could see the Milky Way. Just beautiful! The boys are doing great and loving having more responsibilities on board :-). We are in the Chesapeake and are nestled in a little marina which I think we'll hang in until the storm passes......then we'll keep moving further into the bay. Stay safe! Andy
Nicely done, I hope you survived the heat of the C'Bay is was a very hot July this year! Will you go further north and escape the worst of it? Cheers Warren
July was hot hot and August seems to be the same! Luckily our catamaran has A/C 😜. We’re going to ride out the tropical storm and then continue north in the Chesapeake. A little cooler weather would be nice!
Hi Joseph, I have to give all the credit to Maki.....she's doing a great job editing and making us all look good :-). We are working on several videos.....provisioning is one of them to come soon. Thank you for spending a part of your day with us! Stay safe.....~Andy
We are looking at selling everything we own and purchasing a 40-50' catamaran early 2021. Bali, Leopard and Lagoon are on the list. Any feedback on build quality between the 3 would be appreciated. Keep up the cool videos, we just found you guys. Love it so far.
Hi Guys! Love your plans! Go for it!! So the two I can comment on is Lagoon and of course Leopard. Neither I or Maki have ever sailed Bali although we have walked them at the boat shows. Good looking Cat, the only thing I noticed right away was fairly low "bridge deck clearance" which if you plan to blue water sail on long off shore passages might result in noise from waves slapping under the bridge deck area. For Lagoon, I have sailed a 450S which was a beautiful catamaran but I wasn't 100% fond of the finishing touches. To be honest that's what really bothered me on the FP's as well. I sailed a 1 year old FP 44 Helia that had wood lamenents peeling inside the salon. Every boat manufacturer has its issues but I found the Leopards to be very solidly built, great finishing touches throughout and a great sailing catamaran. The very first time sailing on a Leopard I was aboard a new L40 and immediately noticed how solid she felt, no squeaks of any kind. We absolutely love our L45 and if we had to do all over again would buy the same exact boat. It will come to what you are personally looking for. Lots of space equals comfort but will then be slower sailing. Fast sailing usually equals less comfort and storage. We found Leopard Cats to be the perfect balance when talking about production catamarans. Hope this helps and congratulations on your plans! We look forward to seeing you all out on the water!!
Hi Kevin! Great to hear from you! Yes absolutely that was a Southern Charm cup! Only the best on OliLuki! Haha haha! We love the cups and the crew of Southern Charm even more! Stay safe and look forward to seeing you all again 😁👍
Can’t that bright white map on your nav station switch to night mode? Sort of negates the use of red light of that is so bright white ( the picture on your thumbnail)
The MFD doesn’t have a night mode but the screen brightness can be dimmed. That said I actually brightened the screen while filming just to make sure everyone could see the screen clearly. Next time I can look at dimming it a bit more so the contrast between the other instruments isn’t so great. 👍
You'd be shocked (we are) at how much oatmeal porridge and everything else the boys eat. Two in-house full blown Eating Machines! 😊. It's a good thing we have a fast scooter to provision when we're docked!
Crazy as both Maki and I spell check everything at least twice yet here's a title card that has a city name spelled wrong! Oh well, we try our best. Thanks for pointing it out :-). Stay safe!
It looked dead...if it were alive it would have been flapping around like crazy...they probably put a line out and forgot about it and a few hours later pulled it in and saw they had hooked something.
Hi Jimmy, our top speed so far has been 11.8 but we were also surfing the rolling waves......non the less we were moving along at a great pace! Our Leopard 45 is set up with very large sails that can really get the boat moving in good winds. The designer of the boat Alex Simonis had the Leopard 45 up to just over 18 knots in South Africa!
Y'all might want to think about putting a piece of safety rope on your fishing rod.. you just tires a small piece of rope above the real do they handlelove your fishing rod and then the other end tied to your boat. that way you will never accidentally drop the fishing rod into the ocean 🌊 Most people use 24 to 36 inch piece of rope. Will do the job... Just a thought... Much love and prayers be blessed in Jesus... BBE
Hi Bobby, Thank you so much for your comment and suggestion. Funny this last trip Captain Richard told us the same thing and it's certainly a good idea! Thanks for sharing and keeping our rods safe and on board! Hope you enjoy the videos. All the best and stay safe!
Actually we are very strict with our boys regarding all areas of safety especially PFD's which they must have on anytime the boat is preparing to depart, is underway (and they are outside) and even at night prior to going to be, their PFD's must be in their room in the designated area so they can find it no matter what. Here's a link to one of our episodes where we highlight the boys PFD's and even have them jump in a pool to deploy and don their ocean spray hoods. th-cam.com/video/EnZqylvkd6Y/w-d-xo.html
I don't think this guy is watching the same videos as the rest of us. And PFDs while not underway is like wearing a mask, alone in your car 🤦🏻♂️. I have yet to see a time where these boys weren't wearing their PFDs while underway... even in the cockpit or inside the helm enclosures....
We definitely have a good supply of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger on board,......unfortunately the Bonita Tuna is not a really good eating fish. A very strong metal or metalic taste to it. We tried a few of them but now when we happen to catch one we release it. The Ahi Tuna, Black Fin Tuna are fantastic sushi! Thanks for joining the adventure with us! Stay safe!
Thanks Scott! We actually saw that but not until we posted the video and that's after two of us reviewed everything multiple times. :-). Thanks for letting us know.
Was really enjoying the video right up to the point where I realized that after catching the Bonita you were going to release it. My issue isn’t choosing to release it, my issue is you were fishing when you weren’t fishing for food. Injuring fish is not sport. If you’re not fishing to eat, leave the fish be.
Not to beat this to death, but this is a respect thing. Respect for life. I’m not a vegetarian, I eat meat and fish. But I choose not to be wasteful and I do not kill for no reason- hopefully that Bonita did not die but I’m pretty sure that it has an injury that is not insignificant. Andy, the boat is new to you and you’re learning many things. Maybe you’ve already thought about this but if you haven’t I really hope that you do.
We love fishing for food but unfortunately we were only catching bonitas so we decided to release it because it is not very tasting fish ( heavy metal taste) ... it is common for people to release bonito for this exact reason ( specially after they tasted few). Except for bonitos and barracudas, we love to eat all other fish and not really picky. Sorry It didn't show well in the video. Best to you! ~Maki and the Crew
Those boys are so lucky to have such a talented father - learning life long lessons.

Thank you :-). The boys are really enjoying being a part of the crew / team and are learning more every day. Stay safe! Maki
You got 2 great helpers there. I want to hire those boys when we share a dock.
hahaha they said they're ready to get to work!
Move over Andy. Before you know it the boys will be captaining the ship. ;-). Reserving in advance, the best seat in the house. Happy sailing.
Hahahaaa no kidding! Although I’d be very proud to one day see them safely and confidently at the helm. Then mama and papa can enjoy the view 😁
Your cat is magnificient. Keep posting guys.
Marc from Montreal.
Thanks Marc. Leopard makes a beautiful catamaran and we are truly enjoying being able to sail OliLuki with our boys to fun places! Thanks for joining the adventure and stay safe!
Safe travels with Hurricane Isalas.
Thanks Patricia. We are safely tucked in at a marina in the West side of the Chesapeake Bay and we'll hang here to ride it out. Tis the season :-). Thanks for joining the journey with us...stay safe! ~Andy
I hope you guys stop by in Annapolis. Swing by the Naval Academy if you can I can escort 5 people in! Let me know and have a safe trip!
Nice sail and nice yacht. Hopefully you are staying put a bit as there’s a storm about to roll up the east coast.
Hi Mark, thank you and thanks for spending a part of your day with us. Yes we are already tucked in at a nice marina and will ride it out here. Then the journey continues :-). All the best and stay safe! Andy
Sailing SV OliLuki Cool I’ll be looking for the next update. Stay safe and dry !
Looks like you have the best crew in the game, best wishes from Laguna Niguel...
Hi Ramble.......we love Laguna Niguel! Thank you for joining the journey with us. Hope you enjoy the videos. Stay safe!
Have to start following you guys , just came across you today . Great to see your two boys so excited to help take care of their new Catamaran.
Super videos and editing.
Thanks Maureen! Glad you're enjoying them! Stay safe!
Nice video Andy.. Can you also show how do you provision especially during this time of covid. Thanks❤️. Keep safe.
Hi Joseph, I have to give all the credit to Maki.....she's doing a great job editing and making us all look good :-). We are working on several videos.....provisioning is one of them to come soon. Thank you for spending a part of your day with us! Stay safe.....~Andy
AWesome family and boat , loves your vids ;)
Hi Brian......thank you so much! Many more videos to come.....thanks for joining the adventure. Stay safe! Andy
Good crew
Thank you Konina and thanks for joining the adventure!
Can you post a link to captain Richards?
Looks like you're all having fun. Are the boys twins?
Yes Oliver and Lukas are identical twins now 9.5 years only and truly enjoying this journey. Stay safe! ~Andy
Love seeing the boys helping out! Great informative video... Was that a Southern Charm cup that Maki was drinking out of at the bow??? :)
Hi Kevin! Great to hear from you! Yes absolutely that was a Southern Charm cup! Only the best on OliLuki! Haha haha! We love the cups and the crew of Southern Charm even more! Stay safe and look forward to seeing you all again 😁👍
Haha! This is awesome... Live, Live, Live... Let’s see that “SUBSCRIBE” more often....
Captain Richard is Swiss, am I right? 🙂
Captain Richard is German. Great and extremely knowledgeable Captain....love having him on board 😁
Great video guys. What editing program do you use? Loving the instructional parts as lm trying to learn as well. Keep up the great work.
So glad you’re enjoying the videos! Maki uses Final Cut Pro to edit the videos.
You've gotta feed those young lads more oatmeal porridge in the mornings, so they can build up those biceps!!!
You'd be shocked (we are) at how much oatmeal porridge and everything else the boys eat. Two in-house full blown Eating Machines! 😊. It's a good thing we have a fast scooter to provision when we're docked!
Why wouldn't seasalt be a good idea on the salad?
@1 min 43 secs .. Wilmington - 'Norfolf' ! Don't you HATE 'wiseguys' who make typos all the time ... ?! Lovin' your vids, thx ))
Crazy as both Maki and I spell check everything at least twice yet here's a title card that has a city name spelled wrong! Oh well, we try our best. Thanks for pointing it out :-). Stay safe!
Why did he toss the Bonita back into the water?
It looked dead...if it were alive it would have been flapping around like crazy...they probably put a line out and forgot about it and a few hours later pulled it in and saw they had hooked something.
What has been your top speed?
Hi Jimmy, our top speed so far has been 11.8 but we were also surfing the rolling waves......non the less we were moving along at a great pace! Our Leopard 45 is set up with very large sails that can really get the boat moving in good winds. The designer of the boat Alex Simonis had the Leopard 45 up to just over 18 knots in South Africa!
Y'all might want to think about putting a piece of safety rope on your fishing rod.. you just tires a small piece of rope above the real do they handlelove your fishing rod and then the other end tied to your boat. that way you will never accidentally drop the fishing rod into the ocean 🌊
Most people use 24 to 36 inch piece of rope.
No pfd's for the kids?..oh well, they're not mine!
You just threw your sushi overboard. Always carry soy sauce, wasabi and ginger.
Stay safe!
100
Typo in the title in the video.
