Canarm CP56 56" industrial ceiling fan in black, new in original box, shown on a generic 4 speed wall control. This fan has been on my want list for years, but has never been a priority so I've been waiting for one to come up at a decent price. There's something specific about the aesthetic of the CP56 in black that I really love, and have loved since I was a young child. Unfortunately the inner packaging kind of self-destructed in shipping, resulting in the fan riding on the motor in transit. I believe that's what has aided in causing the pulsating rather loud hum that it now has, it seems something within the rotor portion of the motor has become slightly misaligned with the stator. Otherwise, it amazingly survived with little other damage. A very decent fan performance-wise, Canarms certainly rank on the higher end for me when it comes to commercial fans available today.

I just had this installed in my garage 12' ceilings, and it sounds like a drone.

Same model in my workshop. It doesn't like our generic variable solid state speed control though. Ours has a reverse option

How did you get the canopy to cover all the way up to the box? I had to use a U-Btacket from canarm and it doesn’t cover all the way up to the box xD

I can't remember for sure. It was either a Hunter Original u-bolt or a box-mountable j-hook I have that came with a Key Largo, which recesses partially up into the box. Those are usually the solutions I use for any j-hook fan I video.

can you change the direction of these fans? So they move air up rather then down?

Yes, they can be wired for reverse. Due to the blade design, if you wanted to exclusively go updraft, I'd suggest flipping the blades as the curve is not very efficient otherwise.

@@vfandm Wonderful, thanks for the suggestion, I did find a wiring diagram and it said to change direction to swap the blue and red wires, That did change the direction. I just turned off the fans and from the ground I agree the shape may in fact be better upside down. I will consider that, but since they are a long way up, and all the gear to get up there is put away, that will be a job for another day when light bulbs are being done next. Thanks again.

Why didn’t you show the speed control in this video?

    • @vfandm

In most scenarios I do not show the control. There were a few videos where I played with showing it, but normally it's something generic and not worth my time showing.

Hi everyone I'm sort of an enthusiast myself and bought one of these fans! Have any of you tried the Canarm CQ004 controls? For "church quiet" operation im curious if they actually work!

I've always been curious about those controls myself, but have never worked with one.

+Vintage Fans & More well then I guess I shall be ordered one to see! I shall comment back when I have the fan installed on the control!

I have one. Rona sold them in the 2000's. They offer very quiet speeds indeed like all controllers using capacitors.
