Leon really protects Ashley like protecting his girlfriend in the remake, the chemistry of their interaction is very clear, they share attention and tease each other, even though Leon is only focused on doing his job to protect Ashley but Leon really cares about Ashley, maybe Leon knows if Ashley likes him , ashley deserves attention from leon, she is perfect in this remake
Their chemistry in the remake is just perfect! In the original, Leon found her to be nothing more than the "President's Daughter he has to rescue" but here he thinks of her as an actually capable human who can save herself in danger! Even the ending is different, he doesn't just go back to finding Ada but actually acknowledges Ashley for all she did and how she helped Leon escape the cage in the castle! She is actually competent in this game and it feels like Leon actually appreciates her!
I love this Remake and their interactions. Ashley and Leon's relationship is more developed, they both flirt, support and care for each other. Here León seems to fully reciprocate Ashley's feelings since the flirtation is from both of them and I love It.

The remake Leon is probably the best depiction of the character we've seen yet. Unlike the original where Leon just plainly rejects Ashley, remake leon empowers her in the process and it really just drives home how well done both Leon and Ashley are here. Ashley grows as a person in this game and she's no longer the annoying character in the original. Same with Leon. He's a very real person now. You can see toll Raccoon city and how he's hardened up with Krauser's training and operation javier but they still preserve the pure hearted nature of leon. And this is what Ada's talking about during the boat ride to the island.

Ashley's VA is superb in this. So many little inflections that really make Ashley feel alive and genuine.
