  • We're Phil and Kayleigh, a husband and wife living in rural Bulgaria with our two children, Alex and Ember. It's always been our dream to live a more self-sustainable life off grid. So, we've sold all our belongings, escaped the rental rat race and bought a plot of land. Complete with a derelict house and 3 barns, we hope to create our new life mortgage free. We've faced lots of hurdles already, so hang on tight as we show you highs and lows of moving abroad and starting again.

    Thanks for the update! As someone who is planning to make a similar move in the future, I think it would be interesting and helpful to hear about what it takes and what kinds of things you have to go through during the process of moving to another country. I'm guessing most of us viewers who are keen to move to Bulgaria haven't ever moved house to another country before, and while your channel is/will be focused on building and renovating in Bulgaria, I think that the process of actually getting there is very important too. So if you have time to make a few videos along the way, I at least, would love to see them

      Hi mindle. Thank you very much, yes absolutely we will be making videos along the way and we definitely will be documenting the process. I just don't think I could bring out a quality video every other week on that subject.
      Thanks for sticking with us and you'll hear from us soon. 😁

      @@OffGridWithTheUdens Just to echo what Mindle has said, I too am in the process of purchasing land in north-west Bulgaria, so any information on the process of obtaining residents permits etc would be really useful as you go through it. Cheers

    have you guys spent the winter time in your svilingrad area? what is the weather like? how cold does it get? and when does it start to warm up? what are the differences between svilingrad and borgas area in regards to the weather?
    cheers shaun

      @OffGridWithTheUdens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shaun I'm not sure on the weather in Burgas but our way you still get a chilly winter often with snow. -10⁰c isn't uncommon. But the winter doesn't last long 2-3 months with spring coming early and everything warming up fairly quickly around the end of March. Hope that helps.

    In the current direction a very wise move, for many reasons BG is in a good position to survive most crises that may happen. The caravan may be too hot in summer, I have brought countless caravans to BG as I would freelance in UK out of a caravan then tow it down to sell every year, but can be hot here for caravans you can easily quickly get a barn ready for basic sleeping and cooking......good luck, i have lived in caravans for the last 6 years or so in UK but would not do here in summer

    • @OffGridWithTheUdens
      @OffGridWithTheUdens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much for your comment. Yes it's certainly something we have thought about but at the moment it's the most cost effective option. We are planning a roof or at least a shade canopy over it as I know it will be incredibly hot.

      @@OffGridWithTheUdens obviously if you have electric you can get a portable AC, you mentioned you had a plan to buy plots of land and 'dock' I wish I had done the same, I would have chosen BG and Portugal and maybe Scotland.But am more than happy in BG. I would have put a freight container on each plot and travel between with car and caravan.

    Good luck with your permanent move, I'm sure it will be everything you hope it will be. How are you getting around the residency issue now due to Brexit? Just asking as we are keen to make the move too 🤞

    • @OffGridWithTheUdens
      @OffGridWithTheUdens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ruth. Thanks for the comment. We very luckily managed to get residency at the end of last year. However I believe the route that we used is now closed and not an option anymore. But there are other ways that are possible. Best of luck with your plans.😁

    Did you ever consider Romania as a place to live? And if so, what made you choose Bulgaria instead?

    • @OffGridWithTheUdens
      @OffGridWithTheUdens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi James. Unfortunately when we did our European tour we had a couple of bad experiences in Romania so it wasn't on the list for us. Having said that it was nearly 10 years ago and I'm sure things have changed. Thanks for the comment 😊

    If you could please could you give some insight on how much a property is in Bulgaria as I’ve seen a website selling houses similar for as little as £12 and I’m curious before spending money buying and fixing a house if it seems legit, sorry if it’s too personal

    • @OffGridWithTheUdens
      @OffGridWithTheUdens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comment. There's a tiktok video that went viral about a house for £12. whilst I think it is possible I don't think it's actually an accurate representation of buying property in Bulgaria. If you watch our Q&A video this should shed some light on things for you. th-cam.com/video/3w-SXWZwXbk/w-d-xo.html
      One thing I would say is don't rush into buying a property because it's cheap! Make sure you research the area and what you are actually buying.
