- Hi everyone! It's Holly and I'm back to make a batch of OMH Soap! OMH stands for Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey but mine is made with a surprising twist...it has no oatmeal, animal milk, OR honey. 😂 This soap is currently on the curing rack and will be listed later this month.

Holly, We are looking for a Doberman now. I’m on the hunt and I’m researching breeders. I had a red Doberman before and he was the best! We have land for for he or she to run and I’m excited to add to our family! We have also been talking’s about making a move from our home to some land in the NC mountains. We have had some land there for about 6 years now with a waterfall and it’s so calming. Change is good if you’re able. It’s also the middle ground of my grandchildren. I can’t go too far from them. I am ready for a change. I love OMH soap.
That sounds so amazing! We need to be in nature. Very excited about the Doberman! We adopted Ripley but his original breeder was Hagedorn Von Euro Dobermans in MO. The guy can't write worth a darn but he loves his dogs. Working with him after the fact, we feel he is very concerned about the health of the dogs and their happiness as well.
Yeah, Holly, the usage rate for BB OMH dropped over the last couple years, I think. I love it, but it's LOW. I switched to Be Scented's version because of that. I use the BS version for soap and BB for everything else. Brambleberry's fragrance calculator says to enter total weight of soap versus total weight of oils. I never do that. I always expect to lose 28% of my soap weight during cure, so I base my fragrance rate on that number. It's very close to the oil weight, so I feel safer using it. Soap will always retain a little bit of water, and my fragrance rate accounts for that. I still have some OMH at home. You've inspired me to make a batch!😊
I think it was justified because that fragrance is strong as it is now. I love it so much though!

What a gorgeous, creamy soap! 👏 Hope you can find a good "photo studio" spot in your beautiful new soaping space, as I look forward to seeing those finished bars on Instagram! OMH is one of the fragrances that Bramble Berry re-formulated very recently, to accommodate the later IFRA standards, so maybe the fragrance calculator hasn't caught up yet. The new soap usage rate is between 5 and 6%, but I haven't smelled the new one yet, and wonder how it compares to the previous version. Like you, I thought it strong, but felt like the scent lasted really well, too.
Thank you! The Fragrance Calculator states that the usage rate is 1.95% per IFRA (document says 5.78%) but it sure is nice and strong! I wouldn't want to use it higher than that at all. I do think I found a decent spot for pictures finally. 😊

Have you ever thought about using a lazy Susan under your big soap mold so you can turn it easily?
I think that's a great idea for a more in depth batch for sure.

Thank you! I haven't tried outside because it's too cold. It wouldn't be consistent so I want to make sure I can take pictures inside.
Holly, where do you get your coconut milk from? Locally? Or a powder mix? I'd love to try adding for the creamyness. I tried goat's milk and I can't get pass the smell when added. It's a chemical, ammonia scent. It settled down while curing but I probably won't try that again.
I use Native Forest Organic from Amazon. It's also available on Thrive Market. Have you tried using goat milk powder?

I don't know what to tell you. When I do a google search on how to pronounce vanillin, the American pronunciation is how I say it.
Hey question, are you at a higher elevation and as silly as it sounds, would that have any effect on making and curing ?
I don't find there to be any differences for soapmaking and curing. Everything seems fairly normal. Where I do benefit is the lack of humidity here compared to Missouri. So I am finding the soaps are evaporating excess water faster, though that doesn't change the magic that happens with a 6-8+ week cure.
