      bucking isn't a production faller anymore, nour is he young bucking, either a younger bucking would've been right there with him any day of the week lol, why because it's bucking.

      On a heli show, you need to buck for the max lift of the helicopter vs the max value lengths. I had a 87" diameter fir that had to be ripped for 64 feet, with the 14' butt log quartered.

    I was taught how to buck on steep ground for 2 years before I was ever given the green light to fall a tree sounds stupid but I am so glad I did no reason to fall em if u can't buck em unless your a cutter u really don't understand how dangerous bucking timber is on this kind of ground windfalls are a whole other beast u do what bjarne is doing long enough your going to have some sketchy stuff and you hope what you learn and take account for will keep you safe

    Awesome video again, Bjarne!
    I like to see the face cuts most times. Often that’s where I observe your most skillful work, in the face cuts. I’ve noticed a lot of trees recently where you only show the back cut, or the last few inches of the back cut, and I feel like I missed a bit of education in cutting technique, just to get to the “BOOM” faster or more often.
    Thank you!

    I hope the younger guys with less experience hear what your saying with regard to triple checking before make a bucking cut. You’ve had enough close calls to no better not too! The same in a lot of situations in life. Don’t get complacent. You’re an amazing teacher Bjarne. You should do that in retirement from this job someday. Your profession could use you!!! 👍🏻💪🏻

      Actually my dad is a falling instructor here in BC. He does a couple courses a year and a lot of bucking courses. He was a production faller for about 30years. Had his own crew for most of his career, that’s how I got started. Learned a lot from my uncle too, we were falling partners for a few years when I started.

    That tree that was sliding all around on you, did you get 4 logs at 6.3? Is that what you usually get @25m worth of useable logs per tree? Those shorter cuts seem to slide around more and damn they are quick. Stay safe!

    I'm a retired teacher, not a woodsman, but this video has so much information and so many cautions from Bjarne that I would like to see it viewed and analysed by every faller-in-training. The once-common "she'll be right, mate!" attitude in Australasia would be lethal in this profession.

      @PetTeacher:
      You write the same thing on every friggin channel that has tree felling in it ... I just saw this exact comment from you on the guy who dropped the 98yr old Ash in his open yard- the one who botched the Humboldt, but it had enough lean to go his way anyhow- and then he gets his bar stuck on purpose, cuts the wrong way in purpose etc-- you know the one I'm talking about. He's not a pro, just a guy with a little bit of knowledge, an old 5.5 hp Stihl, and a little top handle pruning saw- ends it with the wrong way to use a pole saw & the "right way ... FYI limbing that tree would have been cake - you cut the outer end, then there's no weight on the base of the limb for you to zip it off. and the bucking process is way faster and easier than that-- that f***er was on the ground, easy as pie. That's the 2nd reference to deserts, I'm hungry. And you should be more original- and stop trying to make friends in the comments on TH-cam for woodsmen... queer eye for the rough meck guys eh? f**k outta here...🍎 here's an apple Teach.

    Why do you cut off bark before cutting into the tree?

    • @navydogsadventures3500
      @navydogsadventures3500 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The bark grows pretty thick on these old fur trees. It allows his wedges to go in further as well when he is cutting.
