What's the scariest thing in a Zelda game you've ever experienced?
*ALSO... the footage from Majora's Mask used at first wasn't indicating I believe Wind Waker takes place in the Child Timeline; it just fit what I was saying. Lol :)

I feel that the Ghost ship was Tetra's grandmother's ship.
It would make sense that the remaining members of the royal family and servants would have the Triforce chart. Also I know Breath of the Wild came after the Wind Waker, but the lone flower could represent the lineage of Princess Zelda in the same way as the Silent princess.

    • @BanditGames
      @BanditGames  5 ปีที่แล้ว +78

I was going to make a silent princess flower connection but took it out of the final script due to not having quite as much proof towards it as I wanted: but I’m actually 100% on board with you. I think the Ghost Ship could have been captained by a previous Zelda (all girls of the lineage of Zelda are named Zelda)

@@BanditGames another take could be that all those ships in the ship graveyard are what's left of a Royal Fleet from old Hyrule and the ghost ship is not like a physical ship but it's made out of the souls of those royal sailors of old to serve the goddess until the shard was taken.

More like Tetra's great ancestor from. Wind Waker takes place about 800 to 900 years after the flood. We know this due to the graveyard at windfall. The Japanese version of Wind Waker confirms that the grave is for the dad of dancer who dances at the grave.

What if the ghost ship was from the royal fleet and tasked with guarding the triforce shard. They were then attacked and instead of allowing the shard to fall into the wrong hands they sunk the ship themselves and killed themselves.
The islands the ship appears around were the islands were they rendezvoused with other ships in the fleet and even in death they continue to guard the shard and appear at the meeting places waiting for new orders or for someone to claim the shard.

Theory. The man who made the chart was actually the then soon-to-be Ghost Ship's own navigator, having been given one last task in life be the goddesses before being drafted into extended servitude. The goddesses couldn't have him associated with the not yet cursed vessel, lest its purpose for haunting the sea be obvious to all the wrong people, so he had to play the part of an explorer and thus had to find his own way. He knew what was expected of him, what would happen when he finished the map, so he needed someone to tag along, someone to take the map to shore. The tagalong only knew he was charting the Ghost Ship. That's all he needed to know.
Of course, the tagalong would have wanted to get rid of the accursed parchment for fear he'd be struck down as well, and the goddesses planned for this. An agent would be nearby posing as a peddler of unusual goods, striking up a conversation about odd sights that would lead to the Ghost Ship and the map. The agent would feign a mere merchant's interest in it, and the person who was left with the map would be all too happy to be rid of it. The money given in return didn't hurt either.
Okay, yeah. That just got more and more detailed the more I went.

For those saying the ghost ship in Wind Waker and phantom hourglass is the same:
-first off, its obvious they dont share the same design, despite their respective games sharing artstyle
-They do not haunt the same areas
-They do not have the same purpose, one protects a piece of the triforce, the other is meant to steal life force from its captives
-you can enter ph ghost ship without the map
-one only appears at stormy nights, while the other is just surounded by fog, even at daytime
-one keeps a treasure (triforce) or a treasure chart (triforce chart) while it is clearly stated ingame that the other's treasure was only a rumour meant to bait preys

If the man that drew the map died immediately after drawing the map, then isn’t that his boat that sank into the ship graveyard?
Instead of being part a royal fleet, perhaps the graveyard is just a dangerous/cursed place like the Bermuda Triangle.

The man who made the map may have been killed by the goddesses in an attempt to keep a shard of the Triforce secret. If the man had published his map to the world, Ganondorf would catch wind of it and steal the map for himself; thus he could obtain a piece of the Triforce for himself.

  • @jill9978

i once read a theory, one that explains why the ghost ship is malevolent and scary rather than serving the gods or anything, that the ghost ship is a manifestation of the sorrow and anger of shipwrecked people. the triforce reflects the hearts of those who touch it, so the triforce shard reflected the powerful feelings of those who died (with your theory, the spirits of the hyrule fleet of ships) to create a monstrosity. by taking the shard, you're saving the spirits bound by their own despair. i think the face that transforms from terrifying to a strangely peaceful, or perhaps, despondent, expression as you get closer to the source of the power adds some depth to this theory.

  • @firionkaiser8291

Considering Wind Waker is 800 to 900 years after the flood, it's safe to say the flood princess is Tetra's ancient ancestor. This is supported by the fact that Aonuma confirmed Twilight Princess and Wind Waker take place around the same time as each other in their respective splits. Aonuma also confirmed Twilight Princess takes place several centuries after OoT and MM. Plus there's the gravestone at Windfall.

I feel like the identity of the ship and crew is spot on, MNB, but I'm thinking that they were tasked to guard it in their normal life but the ship sunk or was destroyed and so that their ghostly state is a solution to an unexpected problem rather than how they started out.

Maybe this takes all the charm out of the goddess theory and the mission to protect the triforce, but I remember and looked up, that Tetra mentions some pirates who used the forsaken fortress before, and they are not mentioned again.
I wonder if they have any relationship with the ghost ship? What happened to them?
This is what she said: "There are all sorts of strange rumors about this place. What I do know is that long ago, it used to be the hideout of a no-good group of pirates we used to compete with ..."

I have a theory. The figure head of the ghost ship looks oddly like a Gerudo. What if the Gerudo were either sentenced to death by the godesses or excluded from the evacuation plan due to their association with Ganondorf. The Gerudo learning of the plan to survive the flood attacked and captured one of the many ships but were cursed to endlessly wander the sea as punishment. The monsters and spirits you encounter inside the ghost ship could be the tortured souls of the Gerudo that took the ship. They may or may not have known that the ship they attacked carried a piece of the triforce. The Gerudo who took the ship could have been the leftover minions of Ganondorf, hence the monsters, and they wander the sea trying to return the triforce piece to their master but are lost doomed to wander forever.

  • @Prs722
    @Prs722 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

There is another ship that the ghost ship may be. It could be the sand ship; the ship that held a sacred flame that the hero of the sky used to purify the goddess's sacred blade.
Not only does the ghost ship have a similar color palette to the sand ship, but in a picture in Skipper's Retreat it shows that that ship once had a large crew. Also if Skipper and his crew were entrusted with guarding a sacred flame, could they also be trusted with a piece/chart of the triforce?
Although the ship sunk before the time Link used the triforce, a piece could still be obtained as the triforce is not bound by time. In the Child Link timeline after Ocarina of Time, Ganon hadn't gone to the sacred realm, he never obtained the triforce of power, but when he was "executed" in front of the mirror of twilight, he wasn't killed because of the triforce of power. Ganon obtained the triforce of power in the Adult Link timeline, and the triforce went through time for Ganon to have already obtain.
This shows that even if it's seemingly impossible the the sand ship is the ghost ship, it is still a possibility.

I think something that may make a cool addition to this is that perhaps the Zelda before Tetra was the one, with help from the goddesses, bound her soul and the souls of the crew to the Ghost Ship so to protect it and its contents, and the only reason that there's monsters on it now is that you just happened to get there right as Ganondorf's forces were about to loot it and get the triforce for themselves.

This is a tremendously strong theory, and one that makes complete sense. I have long believed that both Tetra’s ship and the Ghost Ship had strong connections to pre-flood Hyrule. So much so that it serves as a major plot point, late in my own Zelda novel.
The connections with the Royal Family and possibly the Sheikah are very likely as well, seeing as the Sheikah have long served the incarnations of the Goddess Hylia, perhaps she commissioned these boats to scatter the maps and shards before Hyrule was completely eradicated. Interestingly, there are no other large watercraft like them except the Ships Graveyard. Perhaps after completing their mission, the Sheikah crews wrecked the ships to aid in preventing anybody being able to seek out the Triforce.

Heres a new theory for you that I had when I first played the game. These big ships were far larger and more advanced than any other ships in the game (I mean most are rafts or small skiffs). So who ever built them had to have money and resources - Most of these islands have a very few palm trees - not timbers for ship building. So it is most likely these ships were from Hyrule before the flood that were used by some of the Royal Family and Soldiers to survive (such as Tetra's mother). Tetra's family did as previous royal family had done and hide their identity (Sheik..) and created the story of them being pirates to hide who they were. Notice how the other pirates care so dearly for Tetra and treat her more as a princess? Its likely they or their relatives used to be servants or guards and knew the secret.
The other ships were tasked with hiding the broken shards of the Triforce. The ships sailed away from each other and sank the shards into the ocean where no one could reach them. The grappling hook was given to Valoo for protection as its the only way to raise up the treasures from the deep. Only one Courageous enough to sail the seas to find this tool and the charts was worthy of Triforce of Courage. Once the ships had hidden their pieces they were to bring the ships to Diamond Steppe Island and sink the ships down into the grotto to hide any evidence they existed and where they may have been.
The Ghost Ship was unable to complete its task though. Possibly a storm, Gannondorf's forces such as the wizrobe that appears on the ship, or perhaps a greedy sailor wanting to keep the piece for himself (possibly the wizrobe even disguised himself as a Hylian sailor and committed mutiny). But the souls of sailors wanted to complete their task and trapped the wizrobe and/or other thieves on board their ghostly ship. They travel the seas looking for the rest of the fleet to pass onto their fellow soldiers the map or shard to hide. Looking at the map comparing the locations where the ghost ship appears is close to the other locations of where the other shards are sunk. They may have known basic ideas of where the other ships were supposed to go but can not find them.
There may even be a link to these sailors/soldiers being Sheikah serving the family as they would be the most advanced to build ships like these since they havent been seen before in the series, the theory that the school teacher is a Sheikah - who gives Link the deed to the oasis that houses a chart/piece in the dungeon bellow with redeads (looking to be likely made by Shiekah) and the fact a joy pendant, something she is seeking, is found in the ship graveyard. Even the weird magic teleport pots in the graveyard being something the magical Sheikah would be likely to make.

There is one more place to note. In the secret passage on Needle Rock Isle, there is a sign that says "To the living: Light the six torches and dive down to the seafloor. Guide the lost spirit of the boat that forever wanders in Darkness." It could be that the crew that was commissioned to guard the triforce piece did not have a choice in the matter.

Personally, i have a feeling it might be one of ancient ships of the forsaken fortress which is the gerudo fortress, maybe the female pillar in front of the ship represent the female dominated population of the gerudos considering also that the gerudo are pratically absent from the game and they also rebelled from ganondorf. What if the pillar is naburo? Or a representation of her. She was a sage at the end of ocarina of time. Maybe the gerudos took part of protecting the triforce from ganon.

I think a simple explanation for the existence of the similar ships and ship graveyard is that each ship from that period was tasked with hiding one piece of the triforce. They all succeeded except for the ghost ship. It's unclear what happened to convert them to ghosts (maybe Ganon chased them which allowed the other ships to successfully complete their mission) but the HD remake placing a piece of the triforce inside directly rather than a scroll fits this theory.

I'm not really sure, but if you could stop transitioning into the video topic by saying "Without further Ado" that would be amazing! You gotta change it up every once in a while man, and every video you've released you say "without further Ado". It sounds like you're writing a high school essay when you're doing more than that! • @raybob8668

My take on the ghost ship, the shard was found by a team of pirates who took it as treasure after hyrule became an ocean. They sailed through the great sea (possibly locating the other pieces) This is a theory on why it ended up on the ship, but the face on the wall could be another possible treasure, that cursed the ship to slowly sink with 8 days, the ship gets more old and rots the more nights that pass by, and a plaque of sorts occurs during each night, depending on the moon phase, each night takes place on where the ghost ship can be seen. It’s last night was diamond steppe island where the ship sinks into the great sea, where the chart is found.

  • @rinthewolf

My thoery is that the ghost ship is the ship that was meant to scatter the pieces of the triforce across the ocean. This would explain why there are charts that lead to the shards, and why i chart or piece would be on the ship. Unfortunately, it sank before the last piece was dropped into the ocean, leading to it becoming a ghost ship.

my thoughts on this are like this; The spirits feared the triforce falling into the wrong hands so they killed the man themselves and took the chart to prevent anyone from tracking them like that again. It could have been that due to the nature of the map that the map maker could have been a servant of Ganondorf

The ghost ship could have been cursed long ago. The Triforce Chart/Shard could have then been left with it to guard until retrieved by the hero, with the promised reward of being freed of the curse once the purpose was fulfilled. That’s what I think. The ship wasn’t cursed by the gods, but was used by them for a noble cause. In a quid pro quo arrangement, the item was guarded in exchange for the curse being lifted after.

I always thought the ship belonged to sheika tribe in charge of guarding the map/triforce piece once the flood had begun. Once they realized they were all going to die out (or some of the decedents wanted a different path in life and left) they left a curse on the entire ship. I highly doubt they would trust outsiders to take on the responsibility and felt keeping it moving and hidden would be the best thing to outsmart ganon and goons. But they had to leave hints/key for the future hero. Maybe like that teacher who owns an island is a descendent and her line was in charge of safe guarding that secret for the hero? Might be a stretch but makes for an interesting back story.

I think the mythos of the Ghostship and the crew surrounding it was created not by the Gods, but by the Royal Family. What's the best way of getting the general populace to not obtain a piece of divine power? To guard it with a frightening sight, an obscure tale. In much the same way that parents tell their children stories of the bogeyman to scare them away from going alone in the forest or other things, so did the stories of the ghost-ship scare people away from seeking it's treasures. It then stood as a test for only a true hero to fetch the price.

After all, what she wanted was to see the world - and, somehow, this is what happens to ghosts on a ship : they sail for all of eternity.

  • @dragonfruit8830

Something makes me think that the Pirate Ship Tetra owns was probably a sum of a greater royal fleet that was built for the royal family possibly during the mass exodus from the drowning kingdom or constructed shortly afterwards that for reasons unexplained was largely sunk during a lasting conflict with Ganondorfs growing forces or was scattered throughout the Great Sea. I thought that the ship graveyard surrounding the Forsaken Fortress was this missing fleet that was destroyed in a final battle against the fortress but these ships lack the same unabashed style of the Royal Family’s Pirate Ship.

The man who made the Ghost Ship Chart's name is David Sr. There is evidence to support it. David Jr's figurine description in the Nintendo Gallery in Forest Haven mentions that his father drew the Ghost Ship Chart and that he intended to find that chart and board the Ghost Ship himself. As for the man's mysterious death, it's anybody's guess at this point until Nintendo decides to answer that question themselves. The timing is suspicious though. For someone to die just after drawing the lines of a map that somehow makes an "unboardable ship" able to be boarded suggests to me that SOMEONE didn't like the idea of the map's existence so they killed the map maker and hastily hid the chart on Diamond Steppe Isle in that maze to keep it out of the wrong hands. The Ghost Ship IS carrying important cargo, after all. What said cargo is onboard is dependent on version of game. Original has a Triforce Chart while the HD remake has a Triforce Shard. Either one would be important enough to adopt a "Protect treasure at ALL COSTS!" mantra. Plus not only is Diamond Steppe Isle unable to be explored without the Hookshot to grapple onto one of the trees, it's also one of the places where the Ghost Ship pops up. So it'd make sense from a lore standpoint for the Ghost Ship Chart to be there. On a side note, whenever I reach the point in the game where I need to get that chart, I approach it from Needle Rock Isle and sail south just as the sun rises. Two reasons for this. The first is to make sure I don't sail right into a Big Octo fight like the one time I tried sailing northwest from Outset Island(yes one of those things is near Diamond Steppe Isle). The other is to avoid the chance of a Ghost Ship encounter while sailing Diamond Steppe.
