No wonder it's been in 2 times in a few months the way you handle the brain, throwing it around, twisting it upside down in your hand lmao. Just get a Monstro DSMC 2 VV, all your accs work, only thing you really lose is 8K120 but you still get 8K60. Monstro VV in my opinion is most cinematic image from a Red camera since the DSMC1 Red Dragon 6K
i have raptor, but sorry to say that the 5 worst things that he's pointing out are not at all an issue. Especially the click sound that's missing from the RED card is a joke. I use kippertie bolt on adaptor which solved all the adaptor needs.
There are several rigging kits from Tilta, but also crazy accessories from GDU, Ignite, 8sinn... when you go to this price range bro, you can forget about SmallRig.
Honestly, this feels a bit too nitpicky. 😄 Maybe you should have gone with the V-Raptor XL, it would solve a lot of your complaints. But even with the normal V-Raptor, there are options for cages and rigs, there are many options for small V-mount batteries with the same capacity in a smaller package, there are even adapters for full-sized V-mounts if you don't want to invest in better batteries, there are many different options for PL adapters that screw into the front of the camera and don't wiggle at all... This video feels a little bit like you blindly purchased the camera without being well-informed and are now salty about it, to be quite frank.
You missed the paint chipping on ST models, accessories not even being available when they sell you the camera for several months, beta testing quirks, split sensor artifacts, limited I/O functionality due to single EXT port which requires adding dongles and breakout boxes just to run common accessories into the camera, very poor dscm3 monitor from Smallhd, Wavelet compression is highly superior to DCT which just about doubles your data rates, can't select your own frame rates or exact compression rates as much as you could with DSCM2, when V-Raptor is built out its actually as big and as heavy as DSMC2 while not being as robust, I can literally go on and on. Love RED, have had a S-W, Gemini, ST Komodo, and currently own Monstro but I definitely will be skipping DSCM3 and will wait to see if things get better with DSCM4. Quality has gone way down with DSCM3 and it's very noticeable.
@@sleekmedia Chipped paint sucks, I'll give you that. But availability problems aren't exclusive to RED, beta testing isn't either, the sensor split affected only a few people and there are fixes available, the EXT port is a good way to keep the camera as tiny as possible (if you don't want that, opt for the XL, like I said before), the DSMC3 monitor is awesome, compression is fine with the 4 options to choose from, frame rates on V-Raptor are completely up to you, a rigged-out camera is always heavier and bulkier than the barebones body, the V-Raptor is robust as hell from my experience... I could go on and on, since I fail to see how quality in DSMC3 hasn't improved significantly. Maybe I had different expectations than you?
You don't really need the Red Expander Blade, it's much more common practice to use a breakdown box like the ones from Wooden Camera, Tilta, Alvin's, Mutiny, Mid49,... As an AC I actually prefer how they've now ditched the ctrl and sync ports and can be sure to have a 3 pin fisher R/S port on every RED job, same goes for the Venice 2 that implemented a R/S port over the previous hirose port on the Venice 1. Now we get to use the same trigger cable for all 3 major camera brands, Arri, Sony and Red.
To be honest, I felt similarly about the expansion port when I first got a Komodo way back when. I started to realize over time that the EXT port is actually just an evolution of the modular DSMC2 back plates. The accessories out right now are still a bit limited, but Mutiny is crushing it. They have a tiny little I/O box to transform the EXT port into the Sync / Ctrl functions you’re looking for. Just ordered a Raptor brain after 6 years with Helium. It’s just a bummer it too so long for accessories and software to come around to make it a usable DSMC2 replacement. As much as people are talking trash about the MiniMag click, I’ll also miss it. Just excited for cheaper media!
It really depends on the quality of the internal generator. Most sound ppl will leave it on if possible. Also if you cycle power you usually want to re-jam.
Wow, you just described all the best things about it. I own it, its great, i bought the tilta cage for it day one...... a year ago..... a year. Stop complaining about cages because they're out there. The Tilta cage comes with a battery plate that will let you attach the bigger batteries, so you can stop complaining about that too. The click and the door for the memory card is way better. Besides having about 8x the storage space while being a third of the size, it's also cheaper and faster. I have two 4TB angelbird cards for it. If anyone is reading this i would suggest you hit the dislike button and unsubscribe.
Does anyone, can anyone recommend a rucksack for the V-Raptor? Body, 2 Lenses med size, Monitor, Top and side handle and cage (broken down ), two batteries and charger. For plane carry on.
Sounds like you invested deep into the DSMC2 system, mainly buying RED proprietary accessories, which made you heavily dependent on the ‘potential’ of RED staying with the DSMC2 tech for a long time. But companies like RED evolve very fast, that’s nothing new. If you wanted true longevity, maybe you should’ve considered Arri. A lot of your opinions & complaints are solvable now with combining different manufacturers’ products and the new DSMC3 features actually streamline the production process in my opinion.
All we bought with the dsmc2 ecosystem was the media and handles. (Top handle and side) one can figure that those could easily transfer to new tech (especially a handle... it's a piece of metal) but alas... that's not the case
Getting to hear about the worst parts and not just the best is sometimes a lot more helpful. 👌 I hope everyone is having a spectacular and safe day! 😃💙 #NotificationSquad
You also sent it in twice because youre supposed to secure/ support your adapters. Also there are plenty of IO solutions for TC, etc from RED and third party. Theres also adapters from RED and third parties to be able to use full size V mounts. All of the things that you say don't exist were released in late 2021/early 2022 with new items and solutions being released to this day.
wth ? stop talking abou the sound the minimag, it’s the worst thing red had ever, literally everyone that owns red had some sort of issue with them. The new card is not only much faster, but cheaper. Maybe learn how to change lenses or hire a ac to do it? lol I’m starting to think your video is a elaborate joke tough. .. lol You can’t just point to a empty space outside of a camera body an goes Ohhh they could have put a sync por right here!!! … lol All your arguments are true for any other camera in the world.. Why they did not added internal Nds ??? there is plenty of space, also why not 5 more sdi and hdmi porta and also make the whole new camera design compatible with all the old models design… of course why not make it run with wind power as well?

Solid points. And so true. There's so many axs now!
you only use the TC port for like a second.. it's jam synced typically by sound. then it's not really used for the rest of the shoot.

Very helpful video. Thank you.

Thanks so lot. This is very helpful :)
Glad it was helpful!

This video is irrelevant. Theres plenty of accessories. Sounds like this was made when the camera first came out, not a year later, let alone now.
