yeah it's smart and those utilities are classics, back 50 years into early days of modular and manipulating and caressing your voltages into new behaviours.
Awwwww yaaaaaay, two of my favorite TH-camrs working together!! Congratulations Robin on the fantastic module and great breakdown Ben! I'll buy one for sure :D
Hello, I would just like to thank you on an unrelated subject from one of your older videos. I cant remember what exactly was it about (some effect module I guess), and you taught me one really really valuable thing about how to hear ..... how effects works in general basically. You used human voice, the counting, and I found human voice in general is great for this (I dont have the counting sample)..... So just big thank you! :)
ah thank you, I think that might have been the Mutable Instruments Clouds demo. It was Taylor Duepree who told me that when were chatting once. Saying that our ears are so fine tuned to the human voice that when testing any gear that's a great way to really hear what it's doing. He was totally right. I have a soft spot for his release 'Stil.' which was my introduction to his work so if you don't know him it's well worth a listen - taylordeupree.bandcamp.com/album/stil
Unfortunately you're not going to get a cue mix into the headphones as it's always based on the sum of the inputs. We thought about it a lot and gave it separately volume so you can mute the output but keep monitoring in headphones but with the interface we had we didn't want to go larger in HP. I hope that does everything really well for you though. RE this vs 3xMIA both are great, this is all about the visuals which has been a big selling point. It's much less inputs (3 over 6) it would depend how you like dual concentric pots with the 3xMIA too.
@@DivKid thanks for the response! Ive been using it as sub-mixer and totally love it. Only because i’m sending my kicks out directly to ableton for the sake of some multitracking The headphone out can be used as a line level send to external fx, ive found this very useful. And now I have a headphone out when i’m not in the studio! I may have some questions, but I will first test it more and rtfm again lol
thanks Andy, that's a TH-cam feature and nothing to do with me (other than picking it). There's 10-20 different countdowns you can select (and select the duration), I try out different ones each time.
Looks like a pretty handy module! What's the filter you're using @8:10 btw? Sounds really juicy! The SSF Steady State Gate? Looks like it's patched, but can't really see...
Hi Pink Cheese ... wonder what makes cheese pink! That was the MRG Filtrone, which is proving itself to be a lovely filter, I've used it a fair bit recently.
Cool module, knowing what's going on with the modulation is a problem I also have, I usually pull up the oscilloscope but having meters right on the knobs could save needing to do that a lot.
One downside in comparison to similar modules like Mutable Instruments Shades is the power draw. Including a microcontroller and all those LEDS, Befaco specs out a current draw of +12v: 110 mA, -12v: 43 mA. In comparison Mutable Shades draws +12V:15mA, -12V:15mA
Initially I thought that it looked a bit gimmicky and a tad overkill, but then I remembered that every patch where I use the HN 3xMIA, I’m like “is this doing anything at all?” 🤔 so yeah, I’ll be definitely picking one up. Good stuff.
damnit, take my money! this is really cool. I have a few modules without visual indicators and they will be the first to be phased out of my case, visual indicator is a major feature I look for now. Befaco with the sick collabs!
well they get out of the way of playing, but they're not always the most fun to patch when there's a few next to each other. For me I like that it gets the cables pushed out of the way for making videos.
well you've about 50 less LEDs :) ... joking aside a single LED isn't that handy a lot of the time as judging a varying signal as brightness is tricky. But the A*B+C is a four quadrant multiplier, which is a Ring Modulator. You can use it as a VCA. The */x element is a VCA, but one that inverts the signal with negative voltages too. So it's a VCA and offset or Ring Mod and offset. Some overlap but different things.
DIY kit for 115€, not bad, seriously thinking about getting this, I use my Mutable Shades in every patch and always feel I could do with a second one (but I currently have a rule of no two modules the same!).
it's a sets of utilities I'm always wanting more of. Used the DPW AV-1 a lot recently (and will continue to) and an old favourite now is the Happy Nerding 3x MIA but I'll be adding this into the mix and for me with demos the visualising it's double-y helpful. Glad to see good ideas out there.
@@DivKid I was not aware of those two, they both look really good as well! (Especially the MIA.) Although I get what you mean about it being useful for demos, I've been thinking about making some more idea/tutorial videos and this could be a nice addition. 🤔
I've taught as a profession for a long time and one thing I have to keep reminding myself is that we all learn different. So I think any visual addition to sound can only ever be a good thing, generally speaking.
Modular is way cool! BUT haven’t we enough blinkety blinky? The tekno Xmas tree is looking dorky-nerdy enough as it is. I know, I know it’s a helpfull indicator of… whatever, but, could be a bit more subtle. Blinky blinky🤣😂
I'll scrap my plans for the dork-o-nator 6000, jungle bells playing, west meets east coast, blinky lights semi modular voice system I'm working on then. Joking aside, yeah could be more subtle, a trimmer on the back to adjust brightness would be nice (like on the VPME Euclidean Circles). However on stage or a dark studio, I don't mind how bright it is, it's definitely helpful and certainly for those that learn a lot visually.
First like, cool, Molten made a module, ok, atenation, mixing whatever, still cool though, but then Wow! ermahgerd!! And it's priced reasonable to, (Got two Øchds, wink wink, so) should I get two MM to then?
Oh rad!! I love this guy. Very cool he’s the one who made this
Yeah nice pairing with Robin working with Befaco.
Heck yeah I want to be like this dude when I grow up!, big brain, I like his shirts, accent, tastes in synthesis, BRILLIANT MIXER! 😊
This is such a smart module. I find the more senses I use (see, touch, hear) the better I do
Excellent demonstration Ben, given me loads of great ideas to try with my Motion Meter. Think it’s a smart module

thanks Jay really appreciate that. Very happy to support both Robin and Befaco and share some ideas for this one.
Very cool, love the LED rings. Abit like Fraptools 321, with a slightly different direction and more steriods!
lovely module and great entertaining presentation with soothing beautiful notes in :)
thank you, much appreciated!

excelent as always. very handy module. and more lights to my modular as christmas is close.
That growl sounds beastly
Yeah Schlappe Three Body, my first patch with it actually. I'm impressed.
Great overview, and awesome use of the Schlappi three body! Are you planning on releasing a video centered around the three body?
What are your thoughts on this vs the 3xMIA ?
Btw just got ure Output bus and love it ! Just need to find a way to have CUE for the headphone output
Unfortunately you're not going to get a cue mix into the headphones as it's always based on the sum of the inputs. @@DivKid cool 👍🏼
Loving this already
Last patch is sooo Caterina Barbieri. Finally getting my hands on this one this friday :)
unintentional but not a bad thing to channel into some music :)
Looks like a pretty handy module!

Can't tell you what makes cheese pink, though. Always been like this.
Robin is a gem.

@@DivKid 😆
Cool module, knowing what's going on with the modulation is a problem I also have, I usually pull up the oscilloscope but having meters right on the knobs could save needing to do that a lot.
I'm looking forward to continuing to use it and trying both. DATA for scope stuff and then other less important bits on this.
Yeah driving all that takes a lot of current compared to the really low current needs of those functions generally.
Initially I thought that it looked a bit gimmicky and a tad overkill, but then I remembered that every patch where I use the HN 3xMIA, I’m like “is this doing anything at all?” 🤔 so yeah, I’ll be definitely picking one up. Good stuff.
it's definitely (as one other commenter put it) "loud" visually. But it's massively handy.
The cheese tax o everybody got to pay the cheese tax

I prefere to listen music, not to look
@@zorancalic65 I prefer you listen to music too. Carry on.
Those right-angle cables are making me anxious!
well they get out of the way of playing, but they're not always the most fun to patch when there's a few next to each other. For me I like that it gets the cables pushed out of the way for making videos.
@@DivKid Makes sense for TH-cam. I need to learn to ignore them!
I still use them a fair bit outside of making videos I should add.
There is already too much light in my system. Would love to have 5 Mordax Datas though, almost every wire going through one.
Great idea for a module!
is it kinda similar to 321 by frap right?
How does it compare to the Befaco A*B+C which is similar but with a simpler (not as loud!) visual indication of voltages.
well you've about 50 less LEDs :) ... joking aside a single LED isn't that handy a lot of the time as judging a varying signal as brightness is tricky.
But the A*B+C is a four quadrant multiplier, which is a Ring Modulator. You can use it as a VCA. The */x element is a VCA, but one that inverts the signal with negative voltages too. So it's a VCA and offset or Ring Mod and offset.
Some overlap but different things.
@@DivKid I really like the A*B+C. I have one and plan to have more. But this new Molten module also looks attractive.
I don't have an A*B+C but should absolutely correct that.

you'd need 6 of these to do all 16 of your double ochd LFOs! :D ... it would look pretty amazing though.
@@DivKid 🥲Lol
I use this with my niftycase
Working out well for you?
I was gonna get a mordax data, but I do already have a scope.....hmmmm.....
I've got to say working with this and the DATA now it's a great combo.
