    NOTE // This module is made in collaboration with Befaco! It's been a pleasure to follow up from 'Mutes' with them and collaboratively work together to bring our ideas into what the Stereo Strip could be. As an appreciation thread, reply to this comment with some of your favourite Befaco modules.
    I'll start with 3 of them ... Crush Delay (oooooft the noise! lovely), Morphader (so much fading controlling goodness) and the Muxlicer (always a good time).

    Pretty cool that this is available in VCV Rack! I find VCV Rack very useful for testing out modules with all my other stuff (minus the haptic ofc). You know, things that you'll immediately notice when you're actually trying to incorporate a module into a patch, but might be lost when you're just thinking about certain parts of a module. Basically the whole picture vs. omg that saturation sounds lovely or that reso sounds so crazy. ;)
    Thank you very much and also thanks for all the effort in general of course!

    Awesome module, for sure getting them and love the tip about sending 1 source to 2 effects at varying amounts with the pan. Side note, they need to sell extra "tall" tendrils/right-angle cables so we dont need to try and wedge the cables between 2 close jacks or send the wire off at a wider angle. I can see how youve really tried to get those tendrils out of the way and fit them in a cramped space, with 2 heights you could essentially stack them over eachother, yet still leave a lot of room for hands

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luigi's cables did (they stopped making the originals for a while) just that. And they're not working on new ones. Watch out for those.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That's the idea to build into the module lots of standard channel strip like things, soft saturation, EQ, VCA, panning, input/output integration etc.
      I'd like to cover the SIG at some point but it won't be in the immediate future.

    • @quiddam
      @quiddam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DivKid yeah, sounds like a must have. I was thinking of getting the X-Pan but this might be more useful for me.
      And the SIG looks pretty complex, I've been reading a lot about xenakis lately and I know that there's stuff like this in software like the VOLbotM and the Cosmosf M31 (which are insane), but it would be interesting to see the eurorack approach to this way of composition.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the X-Pan is a mixer too (and is a great module) so if you need the crossfading and panning and mixing of multiple signals it's well worth looking at.
      But if it's a mono (to make stereo) or stereo source you want to manage and you're wanting to clean up or colour signals with the EQ (or option to drive it) then Stereo Strip will be a good time.

    • @quiddam
      @quiddam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DivKid yeah, that's a good point. I don't really need crossfading and I already have enough utility mixers... so if the Stereo Strip doesn't introduce too much noise then it seems like a good final output if I wanna just mess around with the panning

  • @guysmiley7289
    @guysmiley7289 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question, let's say I bought three of these. How would I patch an FX send where I could control mix of fx per channel ? What would be the easiest method ?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Guy, Stereo Strip doesn't mix anything. So you'd need a mixer. In that set up you'd be taking splits of the dry sounds, sending those off to the FX through the Stereo Strip and then mixing the FX outputs back into the dry inputs on the mixer.
      You could also split a signal dry sound into multiple FX units then take the FX outputs into multiple Stereo Strips. Then modulating the level of, altering panning/balance and EQing the sound of the FX. You'd need to then mix the Stereo Strip outputs back with the dry sound in a mixer though.

    Does the pan when using stereo input swap the channels back and forth, or does it just raise and lower alternately the 2 channels?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it shifts the balance, so the latter of your points. Raises and lowers the left and right signals.
      It's not like a dual bipolar crossfader with some reversal of the image thrown in.

    • @intafon
      @intafon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DivKid Got it! Thanks. I thought that is what I was hearing but just wanted to make sure. I've been playing around simulating some of what one might get out of stereo strip using a couple of channels of veils et al. sans mute switch of course, but you would have to use the entire Veils to do image reversing (plus an additional stereo VCA maybe at the end). • @DivKid
      @DivKid  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello it's the BBC pan-law. Which worked well through our testing with both mono sources to stereo (once panned) and also stereo inputs where it's shifting the balance of the two side signals.
      "back in the 1930s, the Disney corporation tested different pan laws on human subjects, and found that constant power panning was preferred by the listeners. Then, in the 1950s, the BBC conducted a similar experiment and concluded that the -4.5 dB compromise was the better pan law." - a bit of the history, as I like randomly searching for such things.

    How would this work with a Keystep pro? which connections do I have to make? Where to input CV and Gate?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, modular in general or this module? This module doesn't take your pitch CV and gate signals specifically. It's not a synth voice.
      Typically your key step CV outs will control the pitch of oscillators (though not exclusively in modular). Then typically a gate would control an envelope module (again not exclusively in modular).
      The most typical (sorry to keep using that word) for the Stereo Strip would be to use an envelope module, patch in the gate from the key step pro and use that to activate the envelope. Then patch the envelope into the level/VCA CV on the Stereo Strip. Now any sound you patch through the stereo strip will be controlled in level by the envelope shape, with the envelope activated by your sequences or key presses on the key step.
      I hope that helps, feel free to ask more questions here, and/or on other videos and I'll try to help.

      @@DivKid Hi thank you so much for the help, I am triyng to get into modular for the first time and it was hard for me to figure out where to patch the gate and CV pitch inputs from an external controller like the keystep after watching tons of vids. You wrote everything I needed to know. I got interested in this module because I want a stereo output from a modular setup with two SEM filters, two Oscillators, two envelopes and two LFO's, so I think this module will be perfect for this. This module is also a VCA right?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad that was helpful. This is a VCA yes, mono (just plug into the left input) or stereo (both left and right inputs). The level control works manually and then when you plug in say an envelope to control level is adjusts the level of modulation from the envelope.

    Dang, I sure missed this module while building my rack out. Would love to see s second module in the same format with the audio selectors in and out, but instead of pan and eq, a compressor with a natural kick input and audio out for the perfect end of chain mix for more bear style music. I would love a mixer that could do this without having to go mixer, compressor, another mixer to add back the kick and output. Only module I can find for this is transit by Modbap, but it is just sidechain.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      BASTL Aikido is made to do this specifically. Kick into input A, input A envelope follows and that CV can be applied positively (for expansion) or negatively (for compression) to the other 4 channels. Give that a look.

    • @Qwiv
      @Qwiv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DivKid Looking for Stereo in so it can go end of chain with a way to mix in the Kick (mono or stereo) or other side chain (Like Transit) with compressor and more flexible ducking adjustment. The audio in does the ducking using envelope follower or whatever so it will stop ducking when muted/faded as well. Line Level and a Headphone out. 6hp or less.
      Disting + an Audio Out Module will do it currently, but you have to deal with the Tiny Disting UI and the cost in $/HP for both modules.
      Transit will do it if you use the 2nd channel for the kick, but you need to process the kick before separately into the sidechain input to make it sound right. Like LFP the kick first. Also no Compressor.
      Modbap Per4mer kinda does this but it doesn't work really well, takes up a lot of space with the effect buttons and you still need Transit. That is 20hp.
      WMD MSCL needs an audio out plus a mixer to get the kick back in the mix. Also End of Life. 2 more HP could add everything it is missing.
      My Digitakt ducks the internal Kick which I often layer with BIA on auction input so it kinda works, but not really. You need to send the kick in extra HOT and it still doesn't sound good.
      The panel layout of your module would work really well for this with the faders and pots + the I/O at the top. Stereo Chain could stack right next to it as well. Add the I/O on pins the back for a Intelijell Audio Out and it would be perfect end of chain. Everything else I have tried is 3 modules to get the job done (Compressor, 2nd Mixer & Audio Out) and most people do this in the DAW because of that.
      BTW, thanks for the reply and suggestion. I love your modules.

    hey pal great new addition to euro - quick question - where are you getting the diva like horn effect in the send with benefits sample? is that from an oscillator? or digital sampler? I would really like to make that patch if you could give me a patch list or the main pieces that I didn't see in the video clips, thanks in advance

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I didn't take patch notes for all the patches in this one. However I remember (and can see just in the top of the screen) it's the Joranalogue Generate 3 into the Filter 8. Likely the "full" outputs on the Generate 3, a simple envelope (the left hand Dannysound VC looping ADSR, the right hand one with LED cables is the Stereo Strip send level) and that was it before the Stereo Strip and FX.
      The main thing with these sounds is the amount of envelope modulation of filter cut off and the envelope shape itself. Try a saw wave into a low pass and hopefully you'll get close.

    Great end of chain module, wish it was DIY...seems like Befaco is moving away from affordable entry points.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kelly, thanks. I'd argue it's way more than end of chain, mid chain is where it was designed for. More creative modular use cases than just some end of chain colour. Although I'm of course happy to see people use it anywhere they wish, first thing in the chain regarding line inputs if they want.
      RE Befaco moving away from DIY I can't speak to that as I'm not involved. However with this product the SMT is a size smaller than usual and lots of those tiny parts up close to mechanical parts. The PCB is absolutely packed and not something that's fun Befaco to build or going to be fun for others. We're working on a new design to make this easier to assemble and also then hopefully provide as a DIY kit. I'd love to see this as DIY.
      Hope that gives some input, cheers!

      @@888cromartie I guess you have heard of this strange notion called "taste"? Personally I quite like the Befaco industrial design. At least it's always fairly clear what's going on and I like the black and red. Simple, straightforward. I like it. That being said, maybe this one could have benefited from 2HP extra to make the front panel design feel less cramped? It always depends on the priorities though. In the HP vs aesthetic sensibilities battle HP usually wins these days. I don't think it sacrifices function in this case though. Make Noise designs usually have me rolling my eyes, because they sacrifice intelligibility in the name of ... I don't even know what the idea behind it is ... probably intentional obfuscation so that people feel some level of pride when they finally figure it out? Readability is awful on those modules! Befaco is much more function oriented which is kinda nice since all this modular stuff is confusing enough without all that additional obfuscation. Make Noise is like some misguided types of modern architecture where the form dominates to such an extent that function goes entirely out the window, or well, it would go out the window if these stupid buildings had any windows at all ...! I like stuff that is both functional and pretty - Mutable / papernoise modules come to mind.

    • @888cromartie
      @888cromartie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LillySchwartz yes... I agree make noise design is probably the worst wrt their commercial panel designs. They are so bad is spawned a mini industry of making replacement panels. Instruo is also fairly bad and cheap with the pcb panels. Divkid didn't mention a partner in the beginning, but all the modules are tacky and don't go together. Mutable, Joranalague, Intellijel, Xaoc, are great, along with many others.

    • @LillySchwartz
      @LillySchwartz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@888cromartie There are plenty Mutable replacement panels too though and some of them are simply awful. I DIY my Mutable stuff (and pretty much everything else), but I always try to keep the panels as close to the original as possible, but in black PCB for convenience. And you're right that the Divkid Modules don't really go well together. That's because he's partnered with different makers. This one goes with my other Befaco stuff though, so that's not half bad! Anyway, if it really bugs you, you can always make your own panel, it's not that hard! I find it the most enjoyable part of DIY.
