      Mexico has SO much natural beauty. The most amazing thing we have enjoyed is the warm and welcoming Mexican people!

      Sorry to hear that. This has to be hard! Mexico is abounding in natural and fresh food. It’s fascinating that even Mexican fast food is often made-from-scratch natural food - as in your local taco stand. Thanks for watching!

      Crazy enough some of the best restaurants are taco stands and street food. For restaurants, this is an eat-out culture for sure! So so many restaurants!We don’t club much but this town is just full of live music!

      Si. Apriendumos que. This is part of the fun and adventure of learning a new home, country and culture. We have found Mexicans SO friendly and helpful. Thanks for the comment Luis & thank-you for watching!

    Yeah, for starters
    -Costco and Sam's club are more for small business owners, people who buy big chunks of products
    -Liverpool is too fancy for regular mexicans, is for shopping things for special occasions (anniversaries or xmas)
    -Walmart, Chedrahui and Super Aki are the usually visited for most mexicans, just need to check prices.
    -Another good stores are Dunosusa, not as fancy as a Walmart but has the basic for home and very good prices
    -For medicines, if is something not very specific (like if you want some cream for muscular pain or a cough syrup) the most recomended is Farmacias Similares, most of them even have medical offices next to the stores

      Thankyou Francisco! We have found, in general, folks in Mexico tend to be more helpful and offer good advice and direction in Mexico. We are from Canada where the national reputation is for friendliness … particularly Alberta. However, we have been pleasantly surprised by the warmth and genuine kindness of so many Mexicans … and patience with us gringos! Thanks for the suggestions Francisco and Thank-you for watching!

    Hi, Im Jorge, new to your channel; never been in Calgary but I know is on the list of better places to live, (ok, forget about winter);Canada is a beautiful country. I live in North Mexico, (actually 6 blocks from US) so living like "in the middle" of two cultures has been normal for me all my life,; glad you guys move to Merida, (nice safe city, humid and hot but I guess thats part of the reason you chosen :) if you guys have chance someday I would suggest to visit the inner cities of Guanajuato, Querétaro or San Luis Potosí; beautiful cities with spring weather all year around; good luck with your channel.

      Hola Jorge. Thank-you for your comment. Yes, Calgary is a great city and the surrounding area is beautiful. Thanks for your suggestions for cities to explore. Querétaro has been on my radar for some time. Maybe this year we can get away and do some exploring there. The climate sounds amazing! Thanks for watching Jorge!

      @@freelatinlife You are more than welcome; yeah Queretaro is a little less high on elevation than Mexico City (1820 meters instead 2200, still high, so better to keep yourself hydrated and take it easy. Normally I made a trip every year To Guanajuato City in October for the arts festival, (the biggest in Latin America and one of the biggest in the world) more info about this if you guys are interested. San Luis Potosí has the "National mask museum" (masks from all kind of festivities along the country; around 3000 or 4000 displayed; expect high 70s or low 80s in summer during the day, probably 60s at night. Same for Queretaro and Guanajuato: in fall might drop to low 50s or upper 40s at night, but as Canadians I know that is nothing for you. :)

    Another enjoyable video. I'm just wondering how you reconcile the shopping malls with trying to get away from North American culture! "Shopping" is just as available in the Mexican form without the gigantic mega shopping cities like Walmart and Costco. I think being in Mexico would be to FLEE from them wherever humanly possible unless just absolutely unavoidable!

    • @freelatinlife
      @freelatinlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dovy. Thanks for the comment. In many ways you are correct. However, many find it somewhat comforting that the transition to Mexico is a 'soft' landing as many stores and services are familiar. We too have found that there are better options, in many cases. What is fascinating is how the image of Mexico that is portrayed in the media in general, is quite remarkably different from the reality of actually being in Mexico. I guess the other thing that should be stated, is that shopping at the big US branded stores is often quite a bit more expensive than shopping at local Mexican stores.
      Thanks again for watching and for your thoughtful comment Dovy! Very much appreciated!

      @dovygoodguy1296 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@freelatinlife I love that concept of "soft landing". You should make a video just on that subject! 👍 I still can't figure how people in Mexico and central America can afford to shop in those places. I saw a video from Managua of centers that looked like they were in Manhattan or Beverly Hills!

      @@dovygoodguy1296 Good idea. I am putting that idea down for a video ... this is an issue for people wanting to leave the USA or Canada but fearful. It is definitely obvious to us that there are a bunch of people in Mexico with more money than we have! There are lots of low-income people but lots of wealthy people too. Keep the video ideas coming!

      Hi Dovy. I sure does seem that we are in a season of migration, where people are choosing to relocation to very different areas than they were normally living. Interesting for sure! Thanks for watching!
