I’m going against the grain and plumbing for roxy music version. Just more up my street. Check out their oh yeah another classic roxy song. Great channel guys.
Will check it out and I think a lot of people are finding this one difficult to pick which is a testament to how great the Roxy version is! Appreciate it Terry!
Little bit of trivia here from a hardcore Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music fan here in UK (I actually met Bryan a few years back)... Roxy Music's cover of Jealous Guy was the band's one and only no1 hit in UK, and happened quite by accident. Roxy was on the European leg of a tour, not long after the news of Lennon's untimely death (may have been the same day or week, not sure)..anyway they were doing a show in Germany and decided to end the show with this impromptu cover of Jealous Guy (probably sounded nowhere near as polished and long as the single release format you guys just heard)... they didn't think much of it. It was like a one-time thing to just honor John, but it became so popular with fans, their manager or record label suggested they record it in the studio and put it out as a single. Which they did. And to the band's surprise, it rocketed and remained became their only no1 single in UK charts staying there quite a while. Fans of Bryan Ferry will know Bryan ALWAYS does Jealous Guy towards the end of his shows still to this day. I've seen him perform it live three times now, sweat pouring off him :-)
It’s really difficult one to pick the best. Prefer John Lennon vocal slightly more, but Bryan Ferry does almost as well. The thing that sways me is that keyboard outro on the Roxy Music version. Remember hearing it as a child and being memorised
Roxy Music hands down. It's a far more fleshed out, emotive, and complete tune than the original. John's was like a demo version, Roxy's was like the shining studio version. Brian Ferry was custom made for this track...that fade out is legendary too.
I heard the Roxy music version first growing up, absolutely loved it. But then I heard the original 🎉🎉🎉.. Lennon always wins for me but Bryan Ferry was great too.
My stepfather was obsessed with the Roxy Music version when it came out in Australia. My mother and I searched high and low for the song on an album, but it hadn’t been released except as a single. He was enraged, went off on a crazy tirade that included fists, faces and walls… not a particularly nice individual. My mother actually moved to the US to get away from him.
It just Has to be Lennon .Such Beautiful heart felt writing and i am such a fan of his solo work especially . I Forgot about the whistle in this song too .I do like Bryan Ferrys vocal on this and also his song Slave to Love which is one of my faves . Also Roxy Music,s Avalon more than this is another good one i have in the memory bank too 😊 A Great idea for a song battle Pete . Loved it Thanks Guys 👍
I really love the Roxy Music cover but I agree with you guys that the riginal one is better. Just to make us think about the comparison, it shows how great was the job by the band. But if you want a battle that will really make your brain melt, try the live version that Roxy Music did on the Heart Still Beating album. All the potential perceived in the studio version is fully developed in this live version. It's just fantastic. And you can still hear the enthusiastic (and probably emotional) reaction of the audience, still very close to the death of John Lennon.
Lennon for me, but definitely one of the better Beatles and related covers out there. Don't actually care for the whistling on the Roxy version though, shoulda given us more sax instead - might even have swayed me to voting for 'em...
Of course, usually the original always has that special extra, but I really, really like the Roxy Music version and somehow think it's a tiny bit better.
Roxy Music, hands down. I have seen both John Lennon and Bryan Ferry live and there is no comparison. Ferry has a much better voice, and makes the song much more interesting. I saw the Beatles numerous times, just went along with everyone else at the time, but I honestly wasn't that impressed!
Really like Roxy's version and Bryan Ferry's vocals but it's lennon all the way for me. One of the best covers i've ever heard is from Lou Reed, just a soulful unique take on a brilliant song. th-cam.com/video/EjTvFx_zgUo/w-d-xo.html cheers!
Fun song battle. I lean slightly towards Roxy just for the production they managed but John's original is sublime as well. Roxy Music released this at a good time as the mood of the song melds well with the others on that "soundscaping" Avalon album. Suggest doing a Bee Gees vs Tavares song battle for "More Than a Woman"
Great Reaction guys, I love how you both pay attention to whatever you listen to and you do it in such a respectful way, and unlike others who constantly keep pausing to make stupid remarks on something trivial or at times inappropriate, remarks that have nothing to do with the track, you guys always wait until the end to give your thoughts. As for choosing between the 2 versions, I'm gonna have to say Roxy Music wins out for me. It goes without saying that without John Lennon we wouldn't have this great song, however the production and musical arrangements along with the added instrumentation of Roxy's version just elevates the song from obscurity to an all time classic. A fantastic tribute from one iconic musical legend to another, and Roxy Music managed to achieve something that I don't anyone else has ever done ( to my knowledge anyway ), and that is they've taken a John Lennon song, moulded it and made it their own...that is a fantastic feat in itself. Great review guys❤
@ReactionsToTheClassics Thankyou guys. Appreciate you taking the time to reply. There is one live track that I think you may enjoy by George Michael, it's actually a cover version of the Beatles "THE Long & Winding Road", it's a fantastic demonstration on how talented George Michael really was, and what an amazing voice he was blessed with, regardless of who's song he sang he could make it his own, he just had that God Given talent, and the fact that it's live and he makes it look so effortless. Please do check it out if you guys get a chance. Thankyou once again, I wish you Good Health & Happiness and my best wishes to your brilliant channel, may it continue to grow. Lots of Love & Best Wishes from UK.
th-cam.com/video/GMRg60YI51Y/w-d-xo.html This has nothing to do with music it's a bit of Aotearoa history that i was witness to as an 11 year old my Mum and step father both got beaten by rugby supporters at the Hamilton game

Will check it out and I think a lot of people are finding this one difficult to pick which is a testament to how great the Roxy version is! Appreciate it Terry!
Roxy version all the way for me, I just prefer the more lush production, and the wonderful synth outro. Just my taste, I'm an 80's fan.
Totally get that! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely correct 💯% !!!!!

Bryan Ferry made this track a classic !
He did quite well!

**Because of Brian/Roxy Music unique original sound, anything he covers becomes his own.** Including all the Dylan covers + much much more.
